i genuinely get so much less motivation when i stop smoking regularly, maybe my anxiety needs it? i'm also medicated, and meditating course makes me apprehensive about that and the weed, so i'm hoping with age comes serenity because therapy, meds, and drugs haven't cleansed my anxiety. i've certainly learned how to cope with it, but it's always there

On a 7 day streak of headspace

    Posted: 24 Feb 2021 11:38 PM PST

I like the app. I know it may not be much. But 10 minutes works for my schedule. I'd like to go past my 4 hour mediation record but time is scarce being a dad. Sometimes 10 minutes is just right. I like to see people succeed in in their streaks. Have a good one

I want to explore where this urges comes from, and why is it here. Any tipps on how to this?

Feelings of unable to survive on "my own"?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2021 10:01 PM PST

I feel great shame in watching others work hard to survive. While I sit here meditating trying to meditate my way out of suffering. I feel powerless. I feel like I cant do anything. I fear one day those who love me will throw me away and leave me to die. It is my worst fear. Yet I keep on meditating and meditating and I keep going deeper into myself but it feels like life repeats thsi lesson. What am I to learn? To let go of my control on life? To let go and trust the universe will take care of me? If not, my family. I want to give back to those who take care of me but I dont even believe in myself. I feel like I failed and Im so scared. Please help.

The difference between practicing for a few minutes, and not practicing at all, can be extraordinary.

    Posted: 24 Feb 2021 08:13 PM PST

This is a quote from the Waking Up app by Sam Harris. They were providing a free one year subscription for people who can't spare extra money. The 28 introductory course is amazing. I have been meditating for 11 years, still it enhanced my perspective and knowledge. It helped me gain new insights and add to my experience. ☮️

    I just started...dancing?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2021 10:11 AM PST

I was just doing a gratitude meditation and got super into it and started really feeling the energy around me. I started moving my arms around in ways that felt free and flowy and I felt kinda silly but I also felt so free, amazing, and full of life. Like I could direct the energy wherever I wanted it to go :) it was beautiful

The more I mediate the more I keep getting this idea humans took the wrong path

    Posted: 24 Feb 2021 05:17 PM PST

I really don't know if it's only me but I feel like what we call this technological advancement is just leading more to our downfall. Like just the idea of what is taught in school and the things you see in your everyday life is just proof to me. It's hard to explain but like everything set up is usually always with one person greatly benefiting, if you get what I mean. I'm sorry I'm confusing anybody it's just a random thought I get whenever I mediate.

My favourite meditation - sound baths

    Posted: 24 Feb 2021 02:36 PM PST

Just wanted to recommend sound bath meditation if you are trying to find what's best for you. I can't sit in silence as my mind is often distracted, and guided meditations annoy me a bit (not quite the right word but brain not working) so found this was the best in between method for me. Yeah so try it if you haven't!

Why people keep forgetting the real point of meditation?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2021 01:59 AM PST

I see people pondering for long time and writing really long posts in here. Isn't the point of meditation to focus on now and this very instance and think about nothing else?

--Poem-- The Passing Away of Mind

    Posted: 24 Feb 2021 05:42 PM PST

So much grace man has with all his digits,

He holds onto things not a moment longer than their time.

So much grace man has when he's not so skiddish,

Clinging to this me of mine.

So much grace man has completely open,

    Never choosing sides.

Stirring stillness with his grace, open as the sky

He abides gliding hipping and hopping he doesn't force a thing

Never had I ever witnessed such a thing

Put this on r/enlightenment last year, didn't get any love but something told me to put it here.

Love this poem! (wrote in fall 2019)

    Don't do what I did...

    Posted: 25 Feb 2021 12:58 AM PST

A few years back I began a spiritual path...well at least I tried to.

I no doubt know the benefits of meditation, especially in the non-dual form, but I unfortunately have caused a lot of damage to my system in the process...

Back when I was trying to become aware, I tried waaaaay to hard to do so, making it my goal to try to stop my thoughts from arising and trying to make my mind blank (which is not at all the purpose of meditation).

To try to do this I ended up doing something which has destroyed my life...

I later found out through a passage from Osho (which I can no longer find) that what I did is actually a technique used by black magic practitioners to try to dominate others' minds...although I had no such intentions....the "technique" involves forcing energy out through the eyes as much as possible....which I did out of an unconscious desperation to try to stop my own thoughts from arising, not to dominate others....

Needless to say it caused so many problems in my life that I'm not even able to hold a job because of the damage it has caused my energy system...and the way my inferiority functions, especially around other people, is almost unbearable...

Anyway, the lesson I am trying to impart here is - don't try to force anything in the process of your meditation practice...let everything unfold naturally...and above all...don't try to stop your mind - it's not possible nor healthy to try to do so, and you may cause damage to yourself like I have, which is seemingly irreversible.

Meditation is a beautiful thing, when done right...so don't rush the process...

And if anybody could offer any ideas or people that may be able to help my situation I would appreciate it very much...

    Best wishes. <3

Experience sharing. I felt warmth, love and I cried when meditating

    Posted: 24 Feb 2021 02:58 PM PST

It's my first time posting here, I hope it is fine to share my experience. I'm a yogi who's recently reading and practicing wisdoms from yoga sutras.

Today as I was meditating, with my inner voice guiding and telling me to slow my thinking down. It said often when there's so many things being processed at the same time, I lose the meaningful pieces. As I followed the voice, an image of seated Buddha came to my mind. And I realised, in one particular period in my life which I have labelled as negative period, was a time when I have traveled and seen various Buddha statues being worshipped in different places and by different cultures. And I sensed a warm feeling surrounding me, I felt I have always been loved and protected. My tears were running down, as I was in seated position with my eyes closed.

Manifestation Is A Powerful Tool For Personal Growth

    Posted: 24 Feb 2021 01:37 PM PST

Manifestation Is A Powerful Tool For Personal Growth

Manifestation is the results of your thoughts. Sounds simple if you are already a manifestation student but do you really believe it and live by it.

What we focus on expands, so what are you manifesting?

Why not stop and think about it, what you are manifesting right now.

How do you feel about what you are manifesting and do you feel like it is your creation?

You may have some doubts about this but you are already an expert at manifesting?

Just look at everything around you and all the experiences that you have been having.

If we can move forward from that belief that we are already creating the things that are in front of us, we can also think that it is possible to change what we are manifesting.

So if manifestation is a given, then how do we change what we are manifesting.

Focus on what you want: Focus on the feelings of what you want and feel positive about it, positive about having it, feel good in your body and emotions.

The opposite of this is to focus on not having it and that we should have it. This is an important point so think about this for awhile. Think back to the experiences that you have had and how you felt about those things before they were delivered. Think about things that came easy and things that were difficult. Use you own experiences to take this point to a deeper level deeper.

Start to take inspired action towards having what you want. Inspired action means to take action with awareness of how it makes us feel as we move towards having what we want.

Taking action with awareness allows us to know when we are coming across some limiting beliefs and to recognize the negative voice that tells us to stop or change direction.

The simplest method to follow when we hit a negative belief, it to just ignore it and replace it with a positive one. This may take some repetition but it is well worth it.

There are plenty of other techniques for belief change which can be used at a later stage. Starting the ball rolling is the most important thing at first.

Continue to take action with awareness and you will know when you making the decisions that will support what you want. If you get off track, just laugh and get back on again.

Choose what resources you would like to help you and stay aware for their delivery. Personal growth is a lot about knowing who we really are and using conscious manifestation is a great tool to learn a lot about ourselves. When you master conscious manifestation you will also realize at a deeper level that it was really you who created all those experiences.

    Enjoy your manifestations!

I recommend this manifestation for you

Any websites I could pull up that have relaxing images, gifs, videos to stare at while I meditate?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2021 08:49 PM PST

Can't find anything great on Google Image.

I like the "scene" feature in the Calm app. I'd like something similar. Thank you!

How do some of you manage your time to fit in 60+ minutes of meditation a day?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2021 04:40 AM PST

I was listening to an interview with Yuval Noah Harari (author of "Sapiens") and he says that he meditates for two hours every day and goes on a 60 day retreat every year. I try and practice for 30 minutes a day--20 minutes first thing in the morning and then a couple of 5 minute sessions scattered throughout the day. Listening to Harari talk about his practice inspired me to try and extend my practice--if someone as busy as him can fit it in, why can't I? My question (for people who practice an hour or more a day) is what does your schedule look like? Do you set aside time for one long session? Scatter a lot of little "meditation breaks" throughout the day? A little of both? How do you manage to fit it in with work, family, exercise, other hobbies?

The TM app : What is the point of the local TM teacher if I am learning from the app?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2021 08:19 PM PST

I have a teacher in my area that calls me nearly each day so far to check in on me, but our calls are less than 5 minutes. We have only met for the gratitude ceremony for my mantra word and will not be meeting again except for a 10-20 min Zoom meditation. It doesn't feel like she's my teacher. It feels like the app and its videos are my teacher.

The local teacher doesn't seem engaged with me or care about what I am wanting to share about my experiences, but instead just repeats the same old lines to me that are not feeling like I am being listened to. I feel like I am talking to a wall. I live in an area where changing teachers is not an option due to low volume.

What is the point of the local teacher, like why am I shelling out money for them when I am learning solely from the app? I am assuming all the cost goes between the local teacher and the Maharishi Foundation, but again see no point in the local teacher. Anyone else have this experience?

Is it okay if my legs fall asleep while meditating?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2021 03:25 PM PST

I'm just getting into meditation and I'm not used to sitting cross legged so my legs keep falling asleep. Is that okay? Should I be doing anything to prevent it?

As I grew older I lost a good portion of my ability to visualize thought, my Inner Eye.

    Posted: 24 Feb 2021 07:02 PM PST

If I try really hard I can see a small hint of a visualization of what I want to see, but I feel like it was way more clear and vibrant when I was much younger. Any way of strengthening inner eye visualization through meditation? I've also had two concussions and I feel that may have had some effect on me as well in that regards. Diet, lifestyle changes, lack of imagination? I have no idea but I do miss being able to see things clearly, it would be helpful as I am an artist.
