Yoga survey on your practice and experience

    Posted: 24 Feb 2021 08:14 PM PST

    I hope this is okay.

A colleague and I are trying to create an app for practicing yoga and are researching everyone's practice. If you'd be so kind to take our survey, it only takes 5 minutes.

    Thanks in advance!

how flexible do you need to be to ease into a headstand?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2021 10:59 PM PST

hi all, I'm very very very new to learning headstands. like started last week haha. and I'm very inflexible but I've been challenging myself and working on it. a lot of routines I see for headstands is to go into dolphin pose and just climb into it but idk if I'm too inflexible to fold enough to raise myself, or if I lack the core strength. probably both. everyone makes it look so easy. I'm still learning to balance so I've been just kicking into the wall and going from there but I want to start practicing going into it that way. any stretches/workouts y'all advise me to do?

I'm trying to learn a press handstand so I've been doing a lot of pancake stretching and I was wondering if I should take rest days and if so why and how often

    Soreness day after stretching

    Posted: 24 Feb 2021 01:43 PM PST

I'm not sure how normal this is, it feels as though I worked out but all I did was a 30 minute stretches both days prior to today. I haven't stretched in a while and am working on building up my flexibility and it is very tight in the back of my hamstrings now, so I don't think I should stretch again today. Any advice would be great!

DEEP HIP STRETCH | Yoga to Increase Flexibility in the HIPS [30-min]

    Posted: 24 Feb 2021 08:29 AM PST

I'm starting some yoga, and have a couple questions for you fine folks.

    Posted: 24 Feb 2021 07:50 AM PST

    Hello!

Like many of you may be, I've been working from home for a while now and I'm beginning to realize how easy it is to be stagnant and sitting all day. I'm starting to notice back pains and stiffness more than I would hope at 23, and I want to improve my flexibility (plus I've heard the benefits to mental health are quite unmistakable as well, might sound a bit hippy dippy but thats what I'm into).

I started the 30 day Yoga playlist with Adriene on youtube yesterday, and I was surprised and disheartened with how difficult I found day 1! I have some limited experience with weight lifting, and was a runner for many years and am in somewhat fine shape (thin, eat healthy food but probably not enough, just not enough activity) but am clearly lacking some core and back strength used heavily in yoga.

I would like to continue, but have a few concerns that I want to clear up in regards to form and what is dangerous vs what isnt.

    1. When I sit cross legged, my back tends to curve forward no matter how straight up I try to sit. Is it bad for me to continue doing yoga despite this curvature? This pose seems somewhat titular to the activity, and I dont want to do it all the time if it may cause injury. I'm a software engineer so my back certainly needs some work considering all the sitting I do.

    2. When I do some positions (such as downward dog) I cant get into the same shape as the instructor. For example, In downward dog it feels like my torso is not perfectly parallel with my arms so I am not making a triangle with the floor. Are slight form inconsistencies like this expected in someone new to yoga? Or does this mean I should not attempt this pose until I can do it perfectly? I dont want to cause injuries.

    3. Is there anything additional to yoga that you all may recommend I practice in the beginning? Im familiar with the recommended routine for starting flexibility, but as I already have a routine from the Playlist I mentioned, Im more interested in little tips and tricks so to speak!

    Thank you :)
