Posted: 03 Feb 2021 05:15 AM PST I've been practicing at home for the better part of a year. I'm sure I'm falling into some bad habits or misalignments. What are some common problems I can be more mindful of? I miss my teachers' corrections and alignment checks! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Feb 2021 04:45 AM PST So as you can see from the title. I have just been scolded by my yoga teacher today. And I have never expected yoga teacher will be angry sometimes too. So I assigned for yoga class on January, even tho I just started my class, I've been doing yoga regularly for awhile, so now I'm applying for different level of class to see which level I am. And today I went to hatha (beginner), and my teacher was teaching advanced wheel pose , which is like forearms down and head in the air. After teaching, we started by doing basic wheel pose, and I am totally ok in wheel pose, so when my teacher said let's try advanced version if you feel comfortable with it, and I think I might be ok with it, so I just did, but somehow I feel I have a hard time raising my head and my forearms felt not balanced. Anyway I just try and see if I can do that but it turned out I can't do it so I just laid down and check how others did. And THEN, my teacher just came and said "you are doing it wrong". It's totally fine she told me I was doing wrong. However, while we take a little break , she just point me said " this student did incorrectly and didn't ask me when she gets trouble, this is really disrespectful to me and every teacher, don't do that again" in from of EvERy OnE. And I feel terribly extremely super duper very embarrassed and shameful , cuz I thought I was just trying and I'm not disrespectful to her. But she just scolded me for I did it wrong and didn't ask her. After that I'm just so afraid of doing other pose. But after class I did tell her that I didn't meant anything and I'm sorry and she said it's ok you need to practice more. Anyway, I still felt my little warm cute lovely yoga heart is hurt by her ಥ_ಥ Now I'm kinda frustrated about go to her class again, and yoga always is a peaceful happy vibe for me, now I'm kinda insecure about doing yoga ( ・᷄ὢ・᷅ ), but I still have the desire to keep doing yoga, yoga making me a whole new person after all. But I really wanna know, is it normal that teacher being very mean ? Or they are just sick of students keep doing wrong.... also I wanna know how you deal with it when you be scolded by yoga teacher.... [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Feb 2021 04:27 PM PST I want to practice regular yoga for strength training but it's not relaxing at all. I'm extremely weak, it hard and frustrating. Most poses aren't just uncomfortable, but physically painful. I know I can move past it, but it's not have the effect on my stress levels that I would like it too. So I found restorative yoga. It's right up my alley. But also have been interested in yoga nidra for some time. I have a book that's called "yoga nidra the art of transformational sleep". I'm always exhausted so I thought, hey why not give that a shot and see if I feel more rested? But this feels like a lot to take on at once. My idea was to do a short regular yoga practice followed by a restorative routine and then some nidra before bed maybe. Is this too much? Should I slow down? [link] [comments] |
Yoga teachers who teach 15+ classes a week – do you have any tips for managing your energy? Posted: 03 Feb 2021 03:34 PM PST I used to teach about 8-10 a week, but with lockdown this has gone up to 15-20 a week. I demo as little as I can but teach a lot of beginners, so can't avoid it entirely. I find myself napping a lot between classes, and my muscles get sore (how does one get sore muscles from yoga?! I know, that's like asking how do you clean soap!). I was wondering if any busy teachers for whom this is the norm had some advice to give for managing long hours of teaching; whether that's for before, during or after a class. It always used to surprise me when I heard about teachers who had around this many classes. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Anybody want to help mod a discord for ashtanga? Posted: 03 Feb 2021 03:57 PM PST I love my groups on reddit and FB but would love sth more "real time" esp to find folks on the fly who want to practice together virtually. Anyway lmk if anyone would be interested in this. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Feb 2021 07:45 AM PST So, I'm tryna practice side plank. I can hold a pose on my right side pretty easily but I struggle with my left one. FYI, I have this weird thing: the size of my right hand is slightly bigger than my left hand. I mean, I have more muscle on my right hand but my left hand is more bony(and veiny :P), to be precise. Dunno if that's one of the reason behind my problem. It would be helpful if y'all give me some tips so that I can work on my pose and do side plank on both sides! Thanks in advance. 🥰 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Feb 2021 02:14 AM PST Question for the yoga teachers/expert practitioners: Seems to me that any yoga teacher that becomes pregnant automatically becomes a certified prenatal yoga teacher (in some cases a brief weekend course may be added), isn't that a bit odd? I get it that in a normal pregnancy a bit of exercise can only be good, but I also suspect that there may be more to it. One of the most expert teachers I ever met wouldn't accept to class pregnant women that weren't practicing prior the pregnancy (the idea is that the body shouldn't do exercises that is not accustom to ) and in general she was quite strict about what and who could do which pose, I've seen several women refused class on safety reasons. I haven't seen a fraction of those concerns in most of other prenatal yoga courses I've read about. I'm not an expert at all, but is this another one of those aspects that keeps being watered down in the yoga world, or is it prenatal yoga not such a big deal after all? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Feb 2021 10:36 PM PST One of my mats (cheapo rubber one) is starting to fall apart a bit, but instead of throwing it out, I was wondering if anyone has any projects or fun ways that they have reused/recycled mats? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Feb 2021 01:30 PM PST I've been practicing with my teacher for two years now and I get the feeling that I'm just not learning as much as I want to and that I'm more interested in practicing a more functional approach of Yoga. What are the signs that it's time to move on and how do you do it? [link] [comments] |
Trouble with seated wide legged forward fold Posted: 03 Feb 2021 01:22 PM PST I'm having a hard time doing a seated wide legged pose, and also a seated wide legged forward fold. I can only get my legs about 45 degrees, and basically unable to forward fold at all. Is there anything I can work on to help with this? I'm not sure if I should work on flexibility in my hamstrings, or maybe another muscle group may be affecting it too? I have no problem with it being a slow process, but I'm just not sure what I can do to get the progress started. Sitting on the mat today and yearning forward with no movement made me want to push my muscles harder then I should and I don't want to damage anything. Thanks for any input and advice! Posted: 03 Feb 2021 12:17 PM PST Hello wonderful folks of r/yoga. I've been dealing with some pretty serious discomfort during and after practice lately. After about 6 months of inactivity coming from the belief that i would get back into my practice when quarantine ended. I finally got really with myself and have have started doing 1 classes 4 days a week. Beginning with the first day and carrying through until now(week 3 of classes) I have felt some internal, nonmuscular, stomach pain after class. I am at a loss as far as what's going on and what i can do to remedy this situation because it's making me bring negative energy into my practice as I'm worrying about the sickness I'll feel after. Any thoughts are welcome! [link] [comments] |
How have you integrated yoga in your daily routine? Posted: 03 Feb 2021 05:36 AM PST |
Posted: 03 Feb 2021 09:37 AM PST Hi everyone! I'm new to this and I've been doing yoga 3-4 times a week. I've used the same video which was designed for big dudes like me. https://youtu.be/eGVC_BN3QVo My question is... should I be doing the same video every time? If not what video would be a good compliment to this one. I never feel like my core is being worked in that video. I'm down around 60 pounds and still have a long way to go. I lift weights every night at the gym. Any advice would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Spine is sore from poses building up to bridge work Posted: 03 Feb 2021 06:48 AM PST Like cobra and a few others I'm not sure of the names but are in some ywa videos. Also the pose right before you are about to do a bridge but with hands underneath you on the ground. I know the spine is extremely fragile so that's why I'm asking here. It does not exactly hurt but rather feels like your legs or arms would after building muscle in those spots. Is this alright? [link] [comments] |
Issues with forward fold/ back pain Posted: 03 Feb 2021 05:51 AM PST So I started practicing yoga daily about a month ago and it's been great! I feel so much stronger and more balanced already. The only issue is this: I have a lot of pain across the back of my hips/top of my butt/ very low back when I do forward fold, or really any pose where I have to bend straight over like that. It's fine on any pose where I have to bend to one side or the other, like triangle. It's worse some days than others, sometimes it just hurts on the first couple folds of the session then stops or decreases. It also kills if I go from a seated forward fold into shavasana. I have to really gently and slowly release those muscles or my back freaks out. It should be noted that I don't have any soreness or pain in that area when I'm not doing the pose. As soon as I stop the pain goes away, so I don't think it's an injury because then it would hurt all the time and it doesn't. Anyway, I'm happy to hear any input! Thanks you guys! [link] [comments] |
