8 months into Yoga - just an observation. Posted: 25 Feb 2021 06:08 AM PST I just had a realization of one of the many reasons I've fallen in love with practicing yoga. The fact that everything I'm doing and all the space I have to take up will be on my mat. I can lay it down and eveything else around it can melt away because it's none of my concern. I have one small rectangle and what's inside of it (me) to give a shit about. As a messy chaotic empath who is still learning that's it's okay to take up space in the World, this is everything. 🙏 [link] [comments] |
I’ve been practicing yoga for a month Posted: 25 Feb 2021 03:34 PM PST So I've been doing yoga for just over a month now - when I wake up and before I sleep. I started doing it to increase my flexibility, tone my body and calm my mind. It has helped so much with everything I wanted. I can see physical changes as well as mental changes and have been able to move in ways I've never been able to move before. Yoga has been a bit of a savior for me as I was in a rut in lockdown but I now have a new hobby and lifestyle with the way I think about my body and head space. I know I'm still a newbie but if you're debating whether to start or not, I say go for it! It has massively improved my lifestyle, mindset and flexibility. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 25 Feb 2021 06:27 PM PST I have been thinking about starting yoga.I suffer from anxiety and generally am unable to cope with this cruel world being an introvert and consequently hopeless about my life and ideas all the time. Does doing yoga everyday help with any of this except the benefit of getting fit physically [link] [comments] |
What type of flow is best for slightly cramped spaces? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 04:50 PM PST I want to start getting more serious about my morning stretches. I was wondering what type of flow I could do that's closer to the ground so my arms don't hit my ceiling fan. [link] [comments] |
Correcting duck feet and associated back pain. Posted: 25 Feb 2021 07:14 PM PST 44/M_ 15 years ago I had an episode of severe lower back pain due to a bulging disk. After just 3 yoga classes the pain was gone for good. I continued on with regular classes for a few years but had taken a break until 3 years ago when I started taking classes again 2-3 times a week. I moved on to hot ashtanga about 2 years ago and have been focusing on correcting my duck feet and have been having some success. I realize that years of outwardly rotating my hips and using my quads, calves, and the outer edges of my feet is going to take time to correct. The problem I have been facing is that my bulging disc pain from 15 years ago has reappeared. It always gets aggravated after double leg seated forward bends and standing forward bends. I have much more range in single leg forward seated bends with no pain until I come out of the bend. Also after the disc is inflamed its excruciating going from standing forward bend into chair. I actually have to re align my spine in mountain before going to chair when this happens. I took a break recently and was without pain until after 3 weeks I returned to class and aggravated it again in a seated bend. I know there are some very knowledgeable people in this group so I was hoping someone might describe anatomically how strengthening my inner leg muscles/glutes/feet is related to my lack of foldability and the re-emergence of a bulging disc in my lower spine. I am cautious and always bend my knees and i don't push to far knowing I can create an injury. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2021 09:39 AM PST I have been practice yoga on and off for about 7 years. I have never been able to establish a consistent practice for longer than a year, it feels like. Lately, I've had a hard time getting to my mat. I've gained some weight during the pandemic (totally normal I know) but I'm having a hard time showing up to spend time with "this body." It feels like I'm avoiding my body entirely lately. I want to practice! I feel better, happier, lighter when I do. Sigh. Any tips on how you just put your feeling aside and get into it? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 01:00 PM PST I'm starved for community since Covid. Anyone interested in a virtual yoga session. Not sure precisely how best to do it, but I would love to connect and practice. [link] [comments] |

Beginner who hates floorwork - suggestions? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 02:09 PM PST I really really hate getting on the floor but I am keen on getting more flexible and yoga seems like it would be a good way to do that. Any suggestions of exercises that allow me to remain standing whilst increasing flexibility? [link] [comments] |
I want to improve my posture and would like to get suggestions about which poses I should practice Posted: 25 Feb 2021 02:09 PM PST Hello, I am a 20 year old guy and I am a complete beginner when it comes to yoga. So far, I have been doing the Cobra(5 breaths), bound locust pose(8 breaths), shoulder pigeon(5 breaths per side), cow face arms(8 breaths per side), bridge pose(8 breaths), runner's lunge(8 breaths per side), downward facing dog(8 breaths) and the supine twist(also 8 breaths). I have been practicing daily for 5 days now and every time my back feels liberated. Are there any more good positions for improving my posture, because I have been neglecting it for the past 7 years and it's starting to really show, when I try to sit on the ground in an upright position, my entire back hurts after 30 seconds, I can't even sit upright on a chair for more than a few minutes, I can't stand in one place for too long without having back pain. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2021 10:09 AM PST Specifically for yoga poses. I've been doing yoga almost six months now so still a beginner and would love a pose book or other basic books. Open to all suggestions though :) [link] [comments] |

Issues with finding my limit... Posted: 25 Feb 2021 09:35 AM PST I'm having a bit of a confusing problem. I've been practicing yoga 4-5 times a week for almost a year. Like many others, I sought - and found - solace in this wonderful practice in the midst of the pandemic. It's been great and I've truly fallen in love with it. But about a month ago, after many months with no issues whatsoever (except for a slightly pulled hamstring after I overdid it once), I started having a bit of an ache in my SI joints. Nothing major and not all the time, but it seemed to be brought on by a poorly aligned Half Moon, and then aggravated by a Yin Yoga session. Ever since then it comes and goes. So I started reading about ways to prevent (re)injury, and the consensus seems to be that it's most important to listen to your body and feel where its own individual limits are, specifically to take a step back when you feel pain. But here's where things get tricky... I never, and I mean NEVER feel any pain while I'm practicing. Not a twinge, nothing. The discomfort always arises a few hours AFTER the practice. So how am I supposed to know when to take a step back (aside from the usual "this is how far my body can comfortably go" which mostly feels like tension, not actual pain)? I've become so self-conscious lately and I hate it. Do you have any advice for me? How do I find my limit if it doesn't actually hurt during the practice? Could the source be elsewhere and yoga actually makes it better, which is why it doesn't hurt? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2021 09:15 AM PST Hey yall! I have been having pain and tingling through one of my legs that I suspect is caused by my sciatic nerve being irritated in some way. I have a doctors appt in a couple weeks to address it but I want wondering if anyone had any poses or flows that could help relive symptoms, even temporarily. Have a lovely day everyone!
