Flexibility: Are my hips not square enough? I feel like I am doing everything that I can to square it (knees + feet facing down) but it just doesn’t look square. How can I improve?

    Hip flexor flexibility and bicycling?

    Posted: 25 Mar 2021 03:43 PM PDT

    Hello all,

I am typically a bicycle commuter but had been taking a break from it after an injury, and doing physical therapy. In the meantime, I've been working on flexibility and particularly my front splits since around Xmas and have been making some good progress, mostly in my hamstrings but some hip flexor gains too after long stretching sessions. However, my injury has started getting better and I am starting to bike commute a couple times a week. I've quickly noticed my hip flexor flexibility immediately deteriorating, despite still stretching. At my best, I managed to get 6" away from the ground, but now that I am cycling just a bit, I can't get below 8". I know cycling can make your hip flexors tight, but how do I combat losing progress while still cycling? I feel like I have stagnated in my flexibility and I don't know what to do.

Does anyone have a good stretch for the very centre of the chest? Like where the sternum is? I’ve been having tightness here but no matter what stretch I find it just doesn’t hit that particular spot.

If anyone has any stretch or pose that would be great. Every chest stretch i find just seems to stretch more so the outside of the chest. Thanks in advance guys.

    Hi everyone!

I am a graduate student researching the fitness apparel industry. I am looking for people to take my survey. I'd appreciate it if you would take the time to complete this survey.

How to stretch lower back/"unroll spine"? (lumbar hernia)

    Posted: 25 Mar 2021 08:26 AM PDT

    Hi all!

M 24 here. I have a lumbar hernia (somewhere between L2-S1, I don't remember) and I am sitting most of the day (studying/working at the pc)

They told me that I need to strengthen my lumbar muscles and that plank should work for me. I watched some videos about the right way to plank and every two days I do 30" plank - 30" rest until my lumbar muscles start to ache, then I stop (yesterday I did a total of 5x30" plank, for example). Do you think this can be a good exercise? Btw, I like to plank lol

Well, also I have to stretch my lumbar muscles/"unroll my spine" especially in the hernia area obv. Can you please help me with some exercises?

    Thanks!
