My front and middle split progress (1 month) Posted: 01 Mar 2021 04:20 AM PST Hey guys! I wanted to share my progress with this two skills during one month. I followed this two guides to create my workout: Front split/overall stretching guide and middle split guide . As a martial artist, I had decent flexibility but Ive always wanted to achieve this two skills to get higher kicks. My workout looks like this: Twice a week: (unilateral stretches were done 1 per leg, meaning 6 total sets) - 3 sets of 1:30 standing hamstring stretch - 3 sets of 1:30 low lunge lean - 3 sets of 1:30 frog stretch (like middle split but with the knees on the floor, focusing on hips) -3 sets of 1:30 front split - 3 sets of 1:30 middle split Ive always had issues seeing results because I went for more intense 3-4 times a week sessions and never sticked to them so I never saw progress. Right now tho, my front split has gone from nonexistent, to the point where i can "comfortably" hold my body in the front split position (ofc I dont mean going down as with a full front split, but having my body in the position, which requires decent flexibility specially on the back leg). My middle split goes way lower than it used to, but progress feels slower and more painful than front split. Best thing is that ive felt an improvement when kicking and each day it feels more comfortable! Its not like ive achieved my goal but I just want to say that this is literally the first time in my life ive seen big flexibility progress and the only keys are simplicity and consistency, nothing more. Alternatives to across the chest stretch Posted: 01 Mar 2021 01:02 AM PST I've got pretty damn mobile shoulders, except that I'm completely unable to do eagle arms. So I've been doing a lot of across the chest stretching recently and I'm getting closer, but I'm worried about my shoulderblade stability from all this passive stretching and I've been losing some strength at the same time. Is there an active movement that will get me closer to my goal? [link] [comments]
Lower body needs an EXTREME MAKE OVER Posted: 28 Feb 2021 11:59 PM PST Just going to start off by thanking you for clicking and hopefully you can provide me with some insight with my on going issues. So the issue is pretty much my flexibility my movement is extremely limited and I don't know where it stems from and nor do I know where to start. I am 26 years old about 6'2 and about 260LBS. I am working on getting that number lower as I know a lot of this may have to do with stress loaded on to my joints but I honestly believe there are other underlying issues. I've had my fair share of sports related injuries- two ankle surgeries, torn meniscus, broken bone in my pelvis and this was all on my left leg. I cannot squat, like my knees and ankles feel like they're about to explode and my back caves in. I sit on a chair for work i've started to feel my posture got to shit- i round my back and find my shoulders going in.and almost a hunch back. I cannot cross my legs, and if i do my knees stick up very high and my back hurts. I can't sit on my heels like the lowest i can go is being up right at 90 degrees, if I try to lower my body my knees feel like they're about to explode. I know i have ankle issues, hip issues, hamstring issues but i dont't know where to start or what to tackle first and I just recently lost my job so I want to take this time during covid to work on my body. I have done some ankle flexibility tests and I have failed all of them ( (dorsiflexion) ) Any tips, videos, articles, suggestions are welcomed, please and thanks !! ISSUES: Cant squat, bring heels to glute, cross my legs, or sit on my heels. [link] [comments]

Best active flexibility exercises for box and front splits? Posted: 28 Feb 2021 02:47 PM PST I'm hyper mobile so I have good passive flexibility and am comfortable in over splits, but the hyper mobility makes me really injury prone from lacking in strength and a lot of the pole combos I'm trying to learn require active flexibility. Whats everyones favourite exercises or tutorials for training your splits actively? [link] [comments]
How do you actually use Kit Laughlin’s book Posted: 28 Feb 2021 02:37 PM PST Hi everyone! I'm extremely inflexible (think knees up by my armpits in cross-legged sit) and weak (can't sit upright unsupported for >3min without muscle fatigue and pain) due to almost 30 years of being a generally lazy person and laying on my back for hours to read or watch TV after coming home from school/work where I sat at a desk all day. I tried the beginner stretching routine in the FAQ and found it way too intense and difficult, so someone directed me to Kit's book as a better starting point. I looked through the free PDF but I'm not sure if it's missing some chapters? It seems to be a reference book for how to perform selected stretches, but how do you actually put this together to create a stretching program? I can't imagine he wants you to do these all daily, but I didn't find anything about stretching frequency or when to add in certain moves/how to progress. Has anyone used this book with success who can help me understand how to actually use it day to day and week to week? [link] [comments]
Can stretching too hard cause the muscle to get even tighter? Posted: 28 Feb 2021 09:15 AM PST I think this might be my problem. Are lighter to moderate stretches better than heavy, strong ones? [link] [comments]
Do we need to eat more protein in order to gain flexibility? Posted: 28 Feb 2021 03:58 PM PST I read that people compare bodybuilding to flexibility in the sense that it is essentially the tearing and rebuilding of muscle. Does the same apply to flexibility when it comes to protein and nutrition in general? [link] [comments]

Extremely inflexible - where do I start?! Posted: 28 Feb 2021 04:29 AM PST So I've been very inflexible my whole life, I'm 21 now I've never been able to touch my toes, when I sit on the floor I can't bend forward at all or keep my legs straight without pain. My hips, thighs, back and everything just feel so tight and painful when I stretch! Years ago I had an x-ray and was told I have little fluid in the discs in my lower back which can affect mobility, but not sure of how much that specifically is effecting things Where do I start to try and become more flexible? Whenever I try 'beginner' routines on YouTube I can't do them so i just get so frustrated! [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Feb 2021 01:04 PM PST So I broke my ankle, I am in a cast and it sucks. But here is my concern. I can do over splits on both sides with two blocks, am 1 block away from middle splits, and have been really working on improving my backbend. How can I not lose my flexibility in the next 6-8 weeks? I am not allowed to put weight through my right leg. Any suggestions for how to do modified stretches would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Feb 2021 09:25 AM PST whenever I do staff pose, i cant straighten out my arms without my shoulders going up to my ears. if i want to sit up straight and have my shoulders away from my neck, my arms are pretty bent. do i just have long arms or am i doing something wrong?
