Poor hip flexibility - increased flexibility from stretching doesn't last long

    Posted: 29 Mar 2021 04:13 PM PDT

    Hi,

I have always suffered quite bad hip flexibility, so recently I have started a 30 minute stretching routine to target the area. One thing I have noticed, is that while stretching, as expected I do start to loosen up. However, shortly after I have finished stretching, it is almost as if my muscles get even tighter than before, which makes it feel as if i'm making one step forward and two steps back.

Is it normal for the increased flexibility from a stretching session to last a relatively short period of time, and to feel exactly as tight as before/if not a little bit stiffer until I stretch again?

    Thanks!

Is it okay if I do static stretches before a workout?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2021 08:09 PM PDT

I've heard that it can cause injury but I have been doing static stretches before workouts for quite a while.

    Bumping movements?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2021 07:02 PM PDT

In the starting to stretch routine that's recommended on this sub it says do 10 bumping movements before each stretch. What exactly does that do? I was doing research and many people were saying that they prefer to relax into the stretch and that bumping can cause injury if not done properly. Do I need to do the bumping movements? Is there a difference if I skipped that and just did the stretches for 10 seconds, 20 seconds, then 30?

    Thanks in advanced.

    I need serious help

    Posted: 29 Mar 2021 06:25 PM PDT

So I went through a period where I didn't move my body much (spent 99.9% of time lying down and sitting down) and in the space of a couple months probably hardly walked half a mile in total, and because of this my body is insanely stiff to the point where I'm in pain doing basic things especially in areas like my neck, shoulders, hips, back and legs. This was a couple years ago and for the past 6 months I've been stretching roughly 40 minutes a day doing static stretching aswell as mobility routines on YouTube but nothing is getting better. I have bad lower back pain and when bending down to touch my toes I can hardly reach my knees and I also have severe pain in the back of both knees and do not feel the stretch in my hamstrings. Online it says this is due to the sciatic nerve but I have pain in both legs? They say this is rare but I'm just confused and need help. I've tried sciatic nerve flossing and all the other stretches and exercises but my sciatica doesn't feel much better although my lower back does. I'm also just generally so stiff in all of my body it's unbelievable. When I tilt my head back I have sever pain behind my neck. I need help on everything but specifically the business with stretching my hamstrings and sciatic nerve issues in both legs. I am also not totally weak aswell as I run a fair bit 3 miles a few times a week and also callisthenics work. I think the sciatica affects my running because it's so uncomfortable and I have bad pain in both of my calves.

sharp pain on the outside of my thigh while stretching hipflexor/quads

    Posted: 29 Mar 2021 08:28 AM PDT

so since about a week I get a sharp pain sensation on the outside of my thigh right below the hip while stretching my quads/hipflexors, for example in a deep lunge or the couchstretch. the pain is on the outside (tfl area?) and not where i normaly feel the stretch (front). A thing I changed in my routine is, that I added some internal hip rotation stretches. any idea?

    Lifting and training splits.

    Posted: 29 Mar 2021 07:48 AM PDT

Has any of you ever combined heavy lifting and trying to get the splits? I train legs very heavy twice a week and want to get my splits but I'm scared to injur myself and tear a muscle. I have felt some minor pains before from this.

Any follow along video for hip internal rotation and also piriformis stretch too?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2021 03:05 AM PDT

So i fricked up my right hip and wait for it calmed down, then i saw immediate pain/symptoms reduction after working out my lower body for few days.

But my hips is still tight (response from overuse injury), any "follow along" youtube videos for internal hip rotation?

Also yes i got checked by PT and ortho. im doing self rehab.

Is it possible to stretch your Achilles tendon?

    Posted: 28 Mar 2021 10:41 PM PDT

That may sound ridiculous to some (I legitimately have no idea)

I'm asking because when I stretch my hamstrings and calf's they feel looser (making good progress) but when I go to touch my toes it's tighter but in a more isolated area. Right where my Achilles tendon goes up my leg, so is that something to stretch or are tendons not meant for that?

Tips for getting my splits right?

    Posted: 28 Mar 2021 01:46 PM PDT

I've been practicing to get my front and side splits but i cant quite get there. I've been doing stretches and yoga, especially straddle splits and hamstring and hip stretches. Any further tips in order to get there?
