Meditation: Meditation is like looking at taskmanager

Meditation: Meditation is like looking at taskmanager

Meditation is like looking at taskmanager

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 06:52 AM PDT

Just realised that meditation is like looking at the task manager of your windows system. You get to see all the processes that maybe running in the background that you are not even consciously aware of. And then you can decide which ones you want to switch off.

It might be stubborn and take time to kill the process but at least now you are aware of it. The ones that are hogging the memory and space of your life.

    6 years of meditation experience

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 09:47 PM PDT

    Been meditation since 2014.

What i habe observed is that there are many unnecessary thoughts we carry around. They are like Red harrings.

When we meditate we cool them down.

I have healed my anger issues.

Also forgiveness helps a lot to clear emotions.

I feel lighter by doing that.

Is it important to remain single when pursuing the path of spirituality?

    Posted: 21 Mar 2021 02:08 AM PDT

I mean is it more sincere if that approach was taken?..... Sometimes i wish i had a girlfriend but something inside me keeps wanting to keep living in solitude.. i am confused with myself..... Am just curious because being in solitude seems well related to spirituality in many cases ... why do sages and monks practice the path of spirituality without a partner? Perhaps Spirituality also has many meanings?

“Meditation is like a gym in which you develop the powerful mental muscles of calm and insight.”

I stopped meditating and felt like i was going crazy.

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 07:35 AM PDT

So I've been meditating 20 min (almost) daily since November last year. 2 weeks ago, I discorved an app called "atom", which gives guided meditations and helps building a habit out of it. It's really well made and i liked the lessons, but they usually only last for 3 to 9 minutes, and most of it is listening, not really meditating. I experienced something like withdrawal symptoms throughout the day, like my thoughts kept firing in every direction, especially the ones that i didn't want or need (hateful/fearful thoughts). Also, I lost all of my self-control, for example yesterday i bought a moblie game and played it for 8 hours straight without even noticing, and I was watching useless youtube videos before. Even during that time, I thought that I should really do something different but i just didn't stop! Overall I felt like I was starting to become a little insane, but I don't really know how I can describe it. Something definitely changed during that time, and after having a good meditation session, i feel like I'm mostly back to normal. Has anybody else experienced something similar after a break from their practice?

When I'm done meditating I get this feeling of calm and awareness for a while afterwards. If you've experienced the same, did this feeling become more permanent the more you meditated?

I'm pretty new to this whole thing so this might be a stupid question.

    Lets sit for Myanmar again!

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 05:57 PM PDT

Lets sit and meditate for Myanmar. Shit is real there. The situation is still dire. Lets sit and send our strength of energy their direction.

I'm gonna scheduale this, for myself, tomorrow morning so probably (approximately) 15 hours from this the time this is posted.

If anybody wants to join that'd be awesome. If anybody who knew how to direct energy wanted to join that'd be better then awesome.

You can sit by and do nothing. Or you can sit by and dedicate your sitting time to Those in need.

This isn't prayer. Nor is it actually having direct physical effect. But demand from the universe perfection and see what happens.

    Eh?

    Downsides of meditation

    Posted: 21 Mar 2021 12:57 AM PDT

Everyone is talking about the positiv influences of meditation. On your Life, your health, your well-being etc. But everywhere, where is light, there is also shadow! So my question is, are there downsides to meditation? Did someone's encounter these? How to handle them ?

    Brain connected with Gerbil

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 02:29 PM PDT

Started meditating a year ago, had some solid breakthroughs with the Monroe Institute's Gateway files. I'm getting better at inducing a Focus 10 state randomly throughout the day for a second or two, it's getting more and more familiar for me.

Anyways, I've been trying to connect more loving awareness to my gerbil, whos brother died in the past year. Now if you know gerbils, they constantly run and skitter and dig and nibble and need other Gerbil companionship to groom, be happy etc. Anyway though I've tried getting him to sit still before and give him scratches, and cuddles, and blow on his hair, I've only been a few seconds successful for a few seconds or a minute at most.

This time round I got him on the couch arm where I usually assault him with my affection, touched my forehead to his back gently, and went into my wakeful focus 10 state, sending him love while I was there, and he calmed and cuddled with me for a SOLID 5 MIN until I came out of focus 10. No pee or poop that he does when he'e stressed which confirms he was comfortable 😭

10/10 reccomend those tapes!!! I'm in Wave 5.

Do you catastrophize, making mountains out of mole-hills? Whatever unlikely outcome you're imagining, you can cope much better than you think

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 09:32 AM PDT

Have you had an anxious over-reaction when something goes wrong - you might think that if a relationship ends you'll never find someone else, if you fail an exam you can never have a successful career. You're imagining all the terrible things that are going to happen, it feels like the world is ending and the house of cards is falling apart.

So what's happening in our heads? The first thing that's going awry is that we're living in the hereafter. As humans we can't live with happiness and calmness in the future - we can only live a joyful life in the present. When we notice our minds are moving into the future we can stop, we can breath and we can focus on something in the present - maybe our breath, our surroundings or an activity.

As well as living in the future, we're predicting the worst possible outcomes - out of all the things that could possibly happen, our minds naturally go to the catastrophe. That's not something to worry about in itself - everyone has catastrophic thoughts and it kept us alive when human beings had to contend with predators and danger.

You probably don't see a lot of wolves and tigers so we can give ourselves permission to take a step back and think it through. When catastrophic thinking arises we need to be aware enough to notice the thought and ask ourselves whether it's really true or realistic. If it isn't we can allow the thought to pass out of awareness, without being swept away and without any harm or damage to us.

A third driver of catastrophic thinking is the belief that you can't cope with whatever outcome you're afraid of, that you'll somehow fall apart. Monsters live in the dark, so shine the light of awareness on it - you've coped with difficult experiences in the past and you have a much greater reserve of strength and resilience than you're aware of.

Everyone experiences catastrophic thoughts, its natural and part of who we are - but our reaction to them decides whether they cause us suffering or they pass without harming us. Life is full of challenges as well as good and bad days; just because one day is bad does not mean all days will be bad.

One final thing to bear in mind is that is that we catastrophize more when we're anxious and our mental health is poor, so get a regular wellbeing routine in place with a little meditation and awareness every day.

Is there any tangible way to see how much your focus has improved?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 03:06 PM PDT

I've been meditating(7 minutes)for 5 months now, along with other mindfulness practices, and I feel it's hard to say wether my concentration has improved significantly since the day I've started. On some days i'm focused and determined to finish work and on others I find it to be very difficult to focus. I feel like a method to track how much my concentration's improved would be helpful to keep going.

    Meditating to artificial rain noise?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 04:58 PM PDT

So meditating to breath/body sensations is extremely difficult and uncomfortable for me due to my physical anxiety sypmtoms

Today i wanted to try something different so i put on headphones and meditated to a 20minute rain soundtrack, focusing on the sounds of rain/thunder

And i gotta say i had one of the best meditation sessions as of so far, i actually enjoyed it.

Is this a viable option? Can i replace focusing on breathing to soundtracks of rain? Will i be missing out on benefits?

I don't FEEL the effects of lovingkindness meditation.

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 07:09 AM PDT

    Hello,

I have recently been in kind of a bad place in terms of self love and compassion. I've begun practicing lovingkindness meditation twice a day. I'm using the app Medito to guide me. When I repeat the affirmations, and then maintain an open awareness of my feelings that follow, I never feel anything: nothing comes up. I feel totally neutral. Does this happen to anyone else? Is this what is expected from LK meditation? Or is the end goal to develop a warmth towards oneself that one can feel when affirming?

How to heal deep trauma done by OCD?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 11:46 AM PDT

So I have OCD, diagnosed in 2020 in the beginning of the lockdown. My OCD was triggered by a subreddit of people who believes we're already in hell.

I started obsessing with numbers like 6666 and start seeing it in license plates very often (4 times) which is super unlikely in the cars of my country (1 in 10.000), I kept checking hundreds of plates. I started to think that could meant I was in hell even though I was never religious.

I went to a psychiatrist and was diagnosed with OCD. I'm on meds and since then I've quite recovered and obsess less with license plates, I no longer fear going outside and see them.

But I'm still left with a trauma, a slight belief that it could have actually meant something and that causes me great discomfort and sadness and when I'm having a good day it becomes bad when I remember it.

What could heal me? I don't want to live the rest of my life with this thoughts, I'm 21, I used to see the world from such a bright positive perspective thinking existence was such a beautiful miracle, it did a 180° turn due to my OCD and it sucks, I've been meditation 1h per day and it was the thing that helped me immensely but I'm still left with trauma.

    Sound Bath side effects

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 05:55 PM PDT

Hi! I hope you guys can offer some insight. At my yoga studio they have introduced sound baths during savasana. Singing bowls are used, along with chimes, rain stick and gong. I have had three sounds baths and each time they throw me into extreme anxiety and make me nauseous. It's been about eight hours and I am still on the brink of vomiting.

Does anyone know why I may be experiencing these side effects from sound baths?

Felling like sitting inside my own head. ?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 05:44 PM PDT

    Hi.

I have started meditating 5 days ago with 10-20 min sessions and last two days, i am experiencing something wierd. After about 8 min mark. It feels like my perspective shifts from my eyes to inside of my head. Like, im not my head , but inside it. Just like sitting in a car. it gives a feeling of wearing a mask over my real me and the mask is my face and my skull.

Is there anyone experinced something like that ?

    Thanks.

Edit:I really dont know anything about meditation. Glad to read something like 101.
