Flexibility vs Strength (specifically in hips & hamstrings)

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 10:01 AM PDT

In the past 2 weeks I've been doing a lot of research into flexibility because I've come to the realization that I have almost none. Although I've played sports the majority of my life (I'm still in college), I've never taken flexibility serious and it really shows specifically in my hips and hamstrings. I've been doing plenty of static stretching, but I've been wondering something; could it be that my hips/hamstrings are weak, n that is leading to a lot of the discomfort I feel when trying to do stretches? Is there some sort of baseline strength required to get full ROM in the hips? And any tips for improving hips/hamstrings strength while still improving my flexibility. Thanks in advance for any advice!!

Are some people more prone to tight muscles/need more stretching post-workout?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 01:32 PM PDT

I'm a mid-20s F and I've been generally active my whole life, with some years of weightlifting in my late teens and early 20s, noncompetitive gymnastics until my early teens, and regular bodyweight workouts (mostly pilates) since last March. Because of gymnastics, I've always been much more flexible than the average person, and a radiologist told me I have shallow hip sockets so that helps too.

I'm doing pilates 5-6 days per week and I always do the stretching in the videos afterward. But I honestly feel so incredibly tight all the time. Recently I've been getting Charley horses in one calf and this disrupts my sleep sometimes. When I was weightlifting I used to spend like 30+ minutes stretching afterward to work on my splits and such, and even though I was fully warmed up, doing foam rolling, and not new to stretching I kept tearing my hamstrings (happened like 3x) while doing splits and I read online that eventually the scar tissue could build up and I could lose flexibility permanently so I got scared and stopped doing splits. My whole life I have also had quite a few groin strains, even as a kid during gymnastics.

Is all this normal or is there something about my body that means that I need to be extra careful when stretching? Do I need more stretching than others maybe?

edit: the 2nd time I got a Charley horse recently I tried to use my massage ball to do both calves and I have been trying to do some calf stretches at least briefly when I think about it. But then today, less than a week later, I get one again.

HAVE PAIN WHEN TRY TO SIT ON MY HEELS AND TRY TO STRAİGHTEN MY LEFT KNEE

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 09:10 AM PDT

1.5 months ago when I was playing basketball I hurted my left knee probably after jumped (not sure btw). From that date to now i think my knee does not get healed at all. Only when i walking it is not hurting so much but it hurts little though. After a few weeks later i noticed that i cannot sit on my left heel comfortable. In right there is no problem but when i try to sit with left leg it hurts so much and i have to touch table or something for reduce the pressure. And when sit at chair about 30 minutes after i stand up back of my left knee hurts and left back of knee hurts a little bit when i try to straighten it. Butafter i try to straighten about 2-3 minutes for that moment it goes away and i become available to staraighten it but a few minutes later it goes back. I dont know what to do? It so risky to go hospitals in my country because of covid. I feel anxious and not comfortable about it I am 20 years old. I really need the doctors or experts opinions please reply, i really need this. My life quality almost gone. It is so serious.
