Lot of silence Yoga youtube channel?

    Posted:

Do you know any youtube channel with yoga tutorials, with a lot of focus on breathing and postures..? I have been doing Yoga with Adrienne so far and I like it, expect for the fact that she is talking way too much while doing the yoga. So I'm looking for someone who gives you a silent space to let you focus on your breath ... thank you for advise

    Looking for Yin Content

    Posted:

Who has the best yin content between Glo and Yoga International? I refuse to support Gaia.

I will only use the yin portions regularly. If anyone has a subscription to either and can tell me about the yin libraries, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Hip flexors preventing me from doing splits?

    Posted:

I'm so close to the splits and have been for months but I can't get down the last two inches. My hips are loose but it feels like my hip flexor/groin muscles are tight and preventing me. I'm not even sure it's possible for hip flexors to be tight but not hips. Any advice?

Recommendations for easing into it due to heart rate?

    Posted:

I'm fairly out of shape these days but have been getting better over the course of the last year. I've lost about 15 pounds primarily from walking 3-5 miles a day, however I still have another 25 or so to lose. I just switched to a Mediterranean diet to supplement this as well.

The biggest issue is that I've been away from running for a long time now, the only thing that gets my heart rate going is lifting which I do sporadically but am trying to be more consistent with.

I wanted to link the weight loss yoga session I used to do but can't seem to find it now, either way I can't do it anymore because the intensity is too high for me. I get lightheaded and dizzy and can't continue.

Can anyone recommend some YouTube video routines that lightly get my heart rate up that I can start with?

If it helps you decide, I'm 5'7" 189 lbs 28 year old male.

QUESTION: learning poses and creating flows (long post - please be kind!)

    Posted:

I've seen people get frustrated by repeated questions, so please be gentle if this is commonly asked - I've tried searching but haven't found specifically what I'm looking for, and would love some help. I started (what I've realized while following this sub is) a fairly light practice in January of this year, so I've been doing a (mostly) daily practice (20-30 minutes with some wonderful 40+ minute days thrown in) for almost 3 full months, with a few little lapses. I used to think I hated yoga because the few times I tried I had negative experiences, but I committed to doing Adriene's 30 days this year and have kept up with her monthly playlists since then. I'm starting to feel more comfortable and I can already do things that I thought I would never get to from such a light practice. Now that I'm actually physically able to do poses (take that, plank pose! I beat you!!), and being inspired by some wonderful posts on this thread, I really want to expand my practice. I feel like I'm missing a really foundational understanding of the poses - I'm very interested in form and what each pose does and how, as well as maybe some light history on them/additional context, what variations change about them, the specifics of the anatomical effects/connection, and the Sanskrit names and meanings. There are resources for lots of poses, but for someone just beginning it can feel so overwhelming, and most of what I find is just about DOING the pose, not learning about the poses. Does anyone know of a really good, trustworthy resource that goes into all of those details of lots of poses in one place? Books and online, but for a book I was thinking maybe more like a resource or encyclopedic guide, since I have a couple general yoga books that just don't get to the depth I'm looking for.

I would like to eventually break out from just doing Adriene's videos. I love her for bringing this joy to my life in a way that finally clicked, but what I see in people really making yoga their own on this sub is so inspiring. I really want to hear some very tangible steps more experienced people take to coming up with a full flow - especially the ones who say they do it but are doing full hours or more! I've seen things like "I just take the poses I like and put them into a flow" but how??? Do you guys write out a list or something? Is this just something that happens naturally over time and/or am I just missing something? Would so greatly appreciate some insight and assistance from some of you incredible people, yoga is the only thing keeping me sane and not completely depressed right now!

Do any teachers mega doubt themselves?

    Posted:

I get so incredibly nervous at the thought of teaching. I'm not currently teaching because I feel like...an imposter? I have my 200h & am a student of the 500h, well on my way to completion. I'm even going to go on for my Yoga Therapy credentials. I just feel like there's so much more to learn and more to practice than I am ready to instruct. I think that when I complete my 500h or my CIAYT then I will be better equipped to teach even though in reality, I know I am capable now? Idk where I'm going with this. I just wish I didn't doubt myself & actually took the time to teach! Because I love yoga so much & I want to share it with others I'm just a scared little noodle!?

Relax pelvic floor muscle during poses?

    Posted:

So I'm constantly unconsciously tensing my pelvic floor muscles, have to consciously relax them which mindfulness meditation helps a ton.

Was wondering what about during Yoga, while holding a pose should I purposely contact or release my Pelvic floor Muscle? aka pc muscle

    Corepower not good for beginners?

    Posted:

I searched the posts on here about Corepower yoga and they all seem to be very positive. I have strained MULTIPLE muscles in my hips at once after starting Corepower 3 times a week 6 weeks ago...I am very sad because I really did enjoy the classes, but I am afraid to do them again. Is there a different type of yoga I should start out in instead maybe? It's clear I overstretched, but I was wondering if maybe there was a different practice that would be more fitting for someone who clearly has very tight hips/legs. Thank you!

Cannot reach feet in sitting poses? Areas to focus on?

    Posted:

Hey all; I've been doing yoga on/off for a few years now. Most recently I've picked Yin up to help with healing from mental illness, as well as to help with some tightness post-workout over my lunch breaks.

I find that no matter what I do, I always have pretty significant difficulty trying to touch my toes when seated. I can touch my toes when standing with a mild bend to my knees just fine, although I'm not near flexible enough to put my palms on the floor yet.

However, when seated, if I lean to one leg or try to lean forward to touch my feet in staff pose, I just cannot stretch any further than an 80 degree angle it seems, and even then I feel like a LOT of the ground I make in the stretches is really my back flexing. I've purchased a strap to help apply gentle pressure to help myself stretch better, but it's to be honest really roiling my anxiety that I've been doing this a while and just CANNOT do what seems to be a pretty basic pose half-right :(

I was working with down dog today, and attempting to work on my quads as my IT band has been pretty aggravated recently from running, and when we got to Janusirasana I basically was sitting straight up in the air with a slight forward lean, that's as far as I could flex while keeping my back straight. What gives?

Does anyone have any guidance on other poses I could to to help flex whatever area of my body isn't permitting this movement?

    Favorite Inversion Flows

    Posted:

Hey everyone! I've been creeping on here for a bit now, but never posted. I was wondering if anyone had any favorite inversion flow videos? I like to focus on inversions once a week to try and strengthen, and just because they're really fun :). My current favorite is The Yoga Gypsea and Leigha Butler!

    Standing yoga flow, suggestions?

    Posted:

    Hi everyone!

I am currently in smart working and since I'm most of the time at home, I thought that practicing a little yoga could be good for my health. However, the setting is not ideal (I don't even have a mat lol). Could you suggest me some good standing flows (level beginner/intermediate)? Or even a good YouTube channel.

Thank you very much for you help!

What is objectively the best hamstring and also the best glute stretch? (for maximum stretch)

    Posted:

Left side is much tighter and limited than my right, Is this common?

    Posted:

I've started to notice more and more how different my right and left side feel from one another mostly when it comes to hamstrings and hips I really start to feel it.

My left side feels more tight even though I work it just as equally as my right, I notice progress in the right side of my body but my left feels like it's progressing really slowly when it comes to certain things.

Is this something that's common? and is there anything I can do to help it a bit more or is it just something that I kind of have to deal with having one side of my body tighter than the other.

Thanks in advance for any helpful words or advice!!

    Mat on carpet?

    Posted:

Hey fellow yogis! My room and most of my house has carpet flooring. Any advice for maintaining proper alignment such as installing a small section of wood flooring for a yoga space? Is there a particular mat that could help me here?

    Thanks all ❤️ much love

Buying my first premium mat, does it need to be as thick as my current cheap one for comfort?

    Posted:

So I've decided to upgrade my mat(s). I currently use a cheap £20 "Fitness Mad Warrior II Yoga Mat" 6mm which I stack on top of a cheap nike travel mat as on their own, it's pretty tough on the knees. Together, they weight 1.7Kg or so.

If I were to get a more premium Lululemon/liforme or something of that standard, would I get a similar level of comfort? I was thinking if they're denser/heavier, it might help.
