My college has offered a yoga extra-curriculum activity, but I’m concerned being the only guy. Posted: 30 Apr 2021 10:37 AM PDT I am very interested in starting yoga for both my mental health and a further opportunity for exercise. I told a friend that I'm considering joining, and they, jokingly, said that people might think of me as the 'pervy' guy at the back of the dance studio who is only there to see girls in tight fitness gear. I know they were only joking, but it's kind of putting me off and I'm wondering if that's how people would really react to me. It's a shame, as I was seriously hoping to start yoga and improve my mental well being, and it would be sad to miss out for such a reason! Does anybody have any experience as a male in a very female-heavy yoga class, or even as the only guy? Thank you! [link] [comments] |

Reading the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali Posted: 30 Apr 2021 05:13 PM PDT I read the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali in this video. I will be reading the rest in future videos. Welcome to my new channel and thank you for watching. [link] [comments] |
Not getting any tips or feedback in classes? Posted: 30 Apr 2021 03:28 PM PDT Hi I started yoga recently and a membership at a well reviewed yoga studio, and I hear here that the benefit of going to classes is you get feedback on your posture and tips for improvement. I get 0 feedback on anything. The instructor just stands on a stage and performs asanas and says out loud what they're going to do next. It feels exactly like watching a video at home. These are public classes with other people, not private. Does my studio suck or is this a universal experience in the US? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Apr 2021 08:39 PM PDT I suffer insomnia and I am wondering if there are any yoga poses, or other yogic tips that might help me relax at bedtime. As background I've developed anxiety around going to bed after years of PTSD induced bad dreams. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Apr 2021 06:47 AM PDT I have plenty of space in my garden, and this summer I would like to build a tent/yurt for yoga and meditation. I am doing this on the cheap, thinking of structural steel and heavy duty tarp (I can weld). I have an old woodstove to put in it. I have a set of swings outside that I use for hanging sirsasana, etc, so I am not that concerned about installing ceiling ropes. Ample space for standing postures and yogic props is all I think I require. I would appreciate any comments on things I should take into account, regarding the structure itself, the contents, and anything else that occurs to your good selves. [link] [comments] |
[COMP] Help Shoulder Troubleshoot! Posted: 30 Apr 2021 07:51 AM PDT Look for some advice, when I do shoulder mobility tests, I seem to have the shoulder mobility required for a straight handstand. I'm trying to get good alignment now because I've had to take a rest for about 3 months now due to a neck injury while doing handstands. Shoulder mobility shown with dolphin pose https://reddit.com/link/n1vi76/video/9lzzrvjjpbw61/player But when I get into a handstand (which has lots of wobbles) I don't understand why my shoulders aren't in the proper alignment. They're still sticking forward a bit and causing a banana back :( https://reddit.com/link/n1vi76/video/jyht2ju4qbw61/player Thanks in advanced friends! [link] [comments] |
Well-respected instructors on YouTube for beginning traditional yoga? Posted: 29 Apr 2021 10:25 PM PDT I practiced at a Buddhist monastery in India for about three years and ran into a lot of Yogi. But their version of Yoga and the Western version are completely different. There is more focus on the meditation aspect, which is primarily what I'm after. Secondly, I'm after the flexibility benefits for martial arts. So, if anyone knows of traditional yogi and/or respected yoga practitioners for flexibility training, I'd love to hear them! Posted: 30 Apr 2021 06:41 AM PDT Hello all! This community has been so helpful to me! I am looking into getting into journaling. What are some of your favorite journal prompts? I am looking for lots of deep penetrating questions. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Apr 2021 01:59 AM PDT I'm doing the foundations of flow with Jason Crandell and its so fun. Its basically learning how to breathe and fundamental poses in sun salutations, is my understanding. Once I finish this 9 class course how do I progress? Do I stick with the sun salutation flow for a few months or do I just log on and pick a random class each day and do that? [link] [comments] |
