    Feeling uncomfortable breathing deeply

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 07:56 PM PDT

I'm finding it hard to completely expand my chest/stomach and take a full breath while doing poses (anything that involves back pends is particularly difficult). Does anyone have any tips on how to fix this? I feel like I don't know how to breathe properly.

Yoga beginner and I need some help

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 01:24 PM PDT

For starters I'm about 6'3 and 310 lbs and I come from a powerlifting background. This offseason I decided to take my health into consideration and decided to start adding in yoga. I only have three off days (one is sled work, two is walking/elbow and shoulder rehab, and three is open), and I honestly don't know how often you need to practice yoga to see the benefits. Could anyone give me some advice/beginner routines that I could do in 30ish minutes? Thanks!

What is the best approach to floor sitting and floor sleeping, and how practical and tiring are they?

Didn't know where else to post this, and this felt like the best place to post.

Harder to breathe in some poses?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 07:13 AM PDT

Hi all, I've been doing yoga (mostly yoga with Adriene videos, I love her!) daily, and I've really been noticing the positive effects for my mood. However, I've noticed in some poses, mostly twists, side bends, or some back bends, I just cannot get a full breath of air. I can just do very shallow breaths.

Has anyone else noticed this in some poses? Does anyone have any tips about working to take deeper breaths in these poses? Any discussion is welcome, thanks in advance!

Body pains (aches) emerging after beginning a practice (asanas & dynamic movements)...

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 12:36 PM PDT

Is it normal to experience newly discovered aches or soreness after doing a practice?

I believe that the answer is yes, but I thought I would check here.

I would assume that in this process of opening the channels, I am bringing a greater awareness to areas of my body that were always in pain, but I just wasn't aware of it. Just like with emotional pain.

Just to define pain too... this is not 'ow' pain... this is just muscle soreness. Not muscle soreness like after lifting weights either, just a soreness. During the practice there are no pains that indicate any kind of something going wrong or needing to stop. It's the good soreness.

I am noticing this especially at my upper and lower back... it just feels a bit constricted. Could these also be likened to a kind of growing pain of moving into deeper opening?

I am following a kundalini hatha series progressing from wind > fire > water elements (in that order). I am certainly feeling very drawn to movements that target these areas so perhaps these areas are finally being given the attention they so need.

This all makes sense to me but I would be interested to hear from others more experienced with the body and these types of practices/exercises.

Got some neck/shoulder pain from doing headstands. What type of massages should I do to relieve it

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 05:46 AM PDT

Been doing and practicing headstands for 30+ days now but the last few days, I must've done something wrong. I feel some kinks around where the neck and shoulder area meet. It's been going for 2 days now.

What type of techniques should I use to help relieve the discomfort in this area?

Yoga during pulled muscle in back

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 09:06 AM PDT

I lifted something all wrong and pulled a muscle in my lower left back. Been doing a lot of restorative & lower body/back yummy sessions. However, I am really missing the strength training part! These things agitate:

    -Planks

    - MAYBE down dog?

    - Anything where the back has to act as a "hinge".

Any suggestions of practices that are a work-around while in "rest" mode?

    Thanks in advance, gang! :)

    zoom / online yoga classes

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 07:44 AM PDT

    hey!

does anyone know any studios doing like online yoga classes? even once or twice a week, like zoom calls and such? I know studios may be open in the states now (don't quote me on that) but im in ontario and we are on super heavy lockdown so nothing like that is open here. if anyone knows, i'm willing to pay as I think it would help give a group feeling on top of the videos I do alone. thanks :)

    Peak Beings Yoga

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 02:52 AM PDT

Has anyone been to a peak beings YTT, either online or in person? I'm interested in how it was and how it is being certified as a 'Unified Yoga' instructor.

Or if you've been to one of their retreats, I'd love to know how you found them.

    Thanks!
