    Arch back/ split

    How about side splits?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 11:07 AM PDT

It seems like most posts I see focus on getting the front split. I'd like to get my hips to open more and legs to reach higher for round kicks while practicing martial arts, as I noticed everything is tighter lately.

Are side splits the best for this or do front splits do enough for you (or more)? Just thinking about the motion and rotation of a round kick, I'm assuming a side split is better, but you tell me!

This might seem like a weird question, but where should the scrotum go when you do glute and hip flexor stretches?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 01:41 PM PDT

My scrotum gets put in a weird position when I do glute and hip flexor stretches. I'm terrified of squeezing my testicles or causing testicular torsion whenever I do these stretches. Am I doing something wrong or are these stretches generally uncomfortable for all men?

    Question about hip/hip flexor mobility

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 11:28 PM PDT

When I was 9, I dropped my backpack on my left knee in the butterfly stretch and cracked/popped my hip joint (?). Since then, my left hip has been way more flexible than my right. Since I was only doing soccer, I didn't think much of it but now I'm focusing more on flexibility for swim. My right leg is always significantly higher than my left during the butterfly stretch and for the floor hamstring stretch I can get myself fully flat with my left leg bent and right extended, but for left extended and right bent, I can barely touch my ankle and my face is just 2 inches away from my knee.

For years I've been doing all the typical hip stretches to loosen it up but nothing seems to work. The only option left is to crack/pop the right hip joint. I want to do it safely, but I know that if I don't do it now (19), it's going to be even more painful when I'm older.

Have tried: Ankle over knee push, butterfly stretch push, low side lunge, front lunge, pigeon stretch, the floor hamstring stretch with bent knee.

What other things (safe or unsafe) can I do to loosen this stubborn hip?

    Have I over stretched?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 02:33 PM PDT

A couple of months ago I decided to get back into a proper routine with working out and improving my flexibility with stretching. I have generally been doing so every other day, and in the first few weeks I saw fast improvement.

I'm generally pretty careful with not pushing myself too far (I've over stretched before and it's really not worth it). However the past week I've been noticing strange pains in my body which aren't like anything I've experienced before.

I use the word "pain" loosely, it's more of a sharpish twinge that only lasts one second. This has been happening throughout the day (just while I'm standing around at work for example). And they aren't just happening in one muscle, they happen all over my legs seemingly randomly.

Is there a term to describe this? Should I completely stop stretching until it goes away or can I continue? I've stopped for now for fear of making it worse.

What are the imbalances here ? Pics attached

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 02:25 PM PDT

    Hey ! I hope you're doing good and are safe ! I'm 22M

Can you please help me in identifying my imbalances ? I really miss basketball and being active. And not having my life revolve around my knees.

I have been suffering with a bad posture since 2016. I had two significant injuries that year ( described later).

    Pics ( different views) : http://imgur.com/a/ezz8oYW

What I'm facing right now : Pain in Both Knees and overall bad posture

LEFT SIDE : •Left knee ( never injured) is collapsing-in and internally rotated. There is significant laxity and instability. And it is hyperextended all the time. This developed during 2016. But this knee was never injured.

•I feel the Left Femur is Internally rotated ( see pics) • Collapsed arch ( more than right)

RIGHT SIDE : • Right knee (history of injury) hurts on extended walking and gets a bit squishy to touch as if floating. Same happens on left knee too.

Overall : I feel a functional leg length Discrepancy when walking. I feel my left leg is longer. When I have to plant my left leg behind I feel like I'm covering a 'longer distance' up that leg and hiking up. They have been measured before. No anatomic difference.

I definitely think my pelvis is misaligned And I get frequent back pain too. This has really affected my daily activities like walking and showering.

Injury History : all in 2016

    • Hairline Fracture of Left Medial Malleolus after I landed on someone's foot during basketball. Was in a cast for 4 months. Walked with a single crutch. Probably the origins of my imbalances.

    • No adequate rehab. Started playing 2 weeks after the cast came off and the basic physio given.

    • 3 months later , Sprained Right Ankle off a rebound. Some days later Right Knee Pain starts. MRI : Grade 2 signal changes in Posterior Horn of Medial Meniscus. No Surgery

Went to different PTs , Orthos and Sports Doc. Didn't stick with one throughout. None would agree with me feeling leg length discrepancy or having major balance issues or a pelvic tilt. They wouldn't even agree that My Left knee was developing a caved-in and hyperextended posture And I wasn't dedicated with the Rehab much. ( so stupid of this idiot kid).

Gained 30 Kgs. Which I have lost this past year through Dieting.

This new constant bilateral Knee pain has developed over the past year

I have played light basketball on Probably just 30 combined days in the last 4 years and have not played since last year. I miss it with all my heart

Can I fix myself and my life ?
