    TIL: PNF actually builds strength

    Posted: 24 May 2021 12:24 PM PDT

I spent a year or so doing PNF stretches and occasional weighted cossack squats to get my middle split.

Today, while building up a strength programme, I randomly decided to try the hip adductor machine for the first time in my life. I ended up doing max weight available (~95kg) for 8 quality reps and I was like - WTF, I can barely squat that much.

I does not seem to me that I moved that much weight, https://strengthlevel.com/ indicates that for hip adduction I barely got in to the "intermediate" category. Nevertheless, I found the experience quite humorous because when I was getting off the machine, I made eye contact with some girl that was waiting in a queue for the machine, and she had this "what?..." look on her face.

EDIT: Add a link to an explanation what PNF is.

When doing a mobility program such as exercises from MoveU, do I continue doing regular strength training?

    Posted: 24 May 2021 05:08 PM PDT

Question says it all. If I'm doing exercises to mobilize a particular area, do I continue doing regular strength training on those muscle groups?

For example, if I am trying to loosen a tight mid-back, should I cease or continue doing deadlifts, pulling exercises, etc.?

Stabbing pain in knee and ankle after squatting

    Posted: 24 May 2021 02:55 PM PDT

Hey guys, I'm sure this has been asked before but I need a few things clarified. Yesterday I went to the gym for the first time in a couple of years, and was aware my knees, ankles and hips are fairly immobile. However, after an hour of stretching and warming up, I tried squatting and it felt fine. However, the next day, when I stood up I felt a stabbing pain in my left and ankle and especially my left knee. Over time this pain subsided. I am currently stretching my ankle and knee and trying to strengthen my hips by pushing my knee outside of my foot and doing assisted one-legged squats at half length. When I squat down, my left ankle tries to move outwards and my knee tries to go inward. However, when I am ass to grass, my left knee can go outside of my foot, as it is supposed to. Therefore, the problem only occurs when going down and up in the squat.

What stretches/exercises should I be doing for this, and how often? (I would like to tackle this issue as soon as possible). Also, is it safe to still do deadlift? I am going to stop squatting with weight for now.

Sorry about the wordy post. Thanks in advance for your help
