Meditation is freaking out my dog Posted: 24 May 2021 06:16 PM PDT Sorry if this has been posted before. I'm just beginning to really explore and experience the benefits of yoga, but I'm having a small problem. Now that I'm getting better at meditation am able to go longer, it's beginning to freak out my dog lol. I'll be in the middle of my meditation and she'll start trying to revive me by kissing my hands and face. Today I just tried to ignore her until she started to cry and actually jumped on my lap. She's a German Shepherd so this is saying something lol. I want to continue my practice and I don't want to scare my dog. The obvious thing to do is to kick her out of the room so she can't see me, but does anyone have a different suggestion? Update: I should add, I actually have a pretty serious autoimmune disease that affects my lungs. Although she's not a trained service dog and has always just been treated as a member of the family, she has become very aware and concerned about my health. In fact, one of the first signs that I'm about to have a flare up is because she becomes very concerned and doesn't let me out of her sight. This may be why she's freaking out. As I meditate my heart rate drops and my breathing becomes slower. [link] [comments] |
Meditation has helped be unbothered by rejection. Posted: 24 May 2021 07:01 AM PDT One of the most challenging things on my life has been dealing with rejection. I've been rejected a lot through out my life and initially my response was always take it personally as if it meant something about me as a human being. But through meditation and reading some spiritual books (e.g. 'The Power of Now'), I stopped fearing rejection when I realised that It actually meant nothing about me. When someone rejects me, they aren't really rejecting me because they don't actually know me. Mostly they just aren't physically attracted to me, which is fine and only fair since there are a lot of girls I'm not physically attracted to either. Reading things like this really helped me: "Ugliness has nothing to do with your body. Neither has beauty much to do with the body. The beauty or the ugliness of the body is very superficial; the real thing comes from within." - Osho Someone can be physically beautiful but very ugly on the inside, this actually is the case often. Anyway, I realised that it isn't really the rejection that used to hurt, it was my thoughts about the rejection. Basically when someone rejects you it's like they hand you a knife, and it's up to you to decide what to do with it. You can cut yourself with it, or you can throw it away. To make sure that this realisation wasn't just empty words, I decided to test myself by putting myself in situations where I'll get rejected. I joined tinder, bumble and so on, and it happened. I got rejected left and right, and through all this I observed my thoughts and I saw that they were the problem. Whenever I identified with a negative thought about getting rejected I would suffer. So the key was to not identify with my thoughts and just observe them indifferently. I'm okay with being alone now, and rejection doesn't hurt anymore. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 May 2021 03:11 PM PDT Hello, I am a 20f black college student. At the moment I am finishing up finals. Since mine ended later than most of my suitemates, I am here with my roommate in a building that is almost empty. Its nice to have her here but she is probably gonna go over to her boyfriends or have him come here so they can sleep together in one of the empty rooms while I sleep alone. This will be the situation for me for the next couple of days until I go home. To combat this feeling of loneliness, I decided to use a mediation for loneliness. I first did a 10 minute meditation about loneliness and this just made me more aware of how lonely I truly am. Not only physically but honestly just in my lack of good relationships and good connections. I cried during this meditation and felt pretty bad afterwards so I used another 5 minute meditation for loneliness. This one also made me feel bad cause it aimed to make viewer think of a safe place where they have people that they love and who supports them but I had trouble thinking of such people. Not that I do not have anyone who loves of supports me but I just cannot think of any one person that is especially loving or supportive of me. What can I do to combat this? Now I feel physically alone and I am also reminded that I have no real friends, no boyfriend or men who truly love me, and honestly no good connections with anyone. Thank you for reading. Why We Don't Meditate: And How We Can Change This Posted: 24 May 2021 11:48 AM PDT Let's explore why we don't meditate twice a day? Some of us do, but many of us don't meditate when we should. People come home after a long, hard day of work, finish their day, and fall into bed without meditating. There's simply 'no time for meditation. But why don't we find the time? There is so much proof of why meditation is good for you. If you were to visit some of the healthiest people on the planet you will be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn't believe in, attest to, and practice meditation. So if so many people expound on the benefits of meditation, why don't we meditate? So there are really two main reasons why we don't meditate. One is that at first, it may not give us enough pleasure to keep our attention. My response to that is to be patient, it will bring you pleasure if you hang in there. It's similar to exercise, at first we don't realize how good the exercise makes us feel until we've started doing it regularly and then our bodies actually crave that exercise. Your mind reacts in the same way. As you meditate regularly your mind too will crave those meditative states. It will grow to be the highlight of your day. The second thing that often keeps us from meditating is that we don't really believe that it's good for us. So if you want to meditate, make sure you're connected with someone or something that drives it deep down inside of you that you need to meditate, meditation is really good for you. Continue to listen to my podcasts online, meditate regularly, find someone or something that inspires you to continue to meditate and you will realize as time goes on that you feel the effects of the meditation. That person, that story, that connection that makes you realize the importance of meditation will also make you realize that meditation is a key part of your life. [link] [comments] |

New to meditating and not sure if I'm doing it right. Is there a wrong way to meditate? Posted: 25 May 2021 12:46 AM PDT So I want to practice mindfulness meditation because I could really use something to make me more focused and as someone who overthinks I feel like detaching from my thoughts would be a blessing. I have tried guided meditations in the past but I feel like they don't work for me? I go on autopilot and think more while I passively listen to the guide. I decided to try meditating 20 minutes in the morning and in the evening, sitting in a quiet room alone with my thoughts. I try to focus on my breathing and if a thought comes along, unless I can really just brush it off, I engage with it for a few moments and visualise the thought floating away. Then I focus on my breathing again until another thought comes along. The first time 20 minutes felt way too long, but the last time it went by really quickly. I guess what I want to know is if this is all there is to meditating? I get more confused the more articles I read about it and I hope someone here had similar thougts about this and can help me. I don't comprehend what this is saying can i get some assistance? Posted: 24 May 2021 09:53 PM PDT You acknowledge and allow things to be as they are. You're less goal-oriented. You have less of a burning desire for situations to change. You accept how things are before moving to change anything. Being mode doesn't mean resignation, it means active acceptance of the way things are at the moment. If you're lost but you have a map, the only way of getting anywhere is to know where you are to start with. Being mode is about acknowledging where you are. You're open to pleasant, unpleasant and neutral emotions. You're willing to open up to painful and unpleasant sensations or emotions without trying to run away from them. You understand that avoiding an emotion just locks you into it [link] [comments] |
How does one plan/have goals/keep their dreams- while being fully present? Posted: 24 May 2021 05:34 PM PDT I love talking with people on meditation and specifically how it's made an impact on my life. I always get asked this question (the title). And I get stuck- because I too wonder this. I'm a high achiever, big dreams, large goals, etc. In some of the non dual teachings (Mooji, Rupert Spira, etc) they tell us to drop everything. That we don't need those things to become happy (which I intellectually understand). But this fear or sadness arises when I think about dropping my dreams or goals. Is it that I don't attach to them so much - is that what they mean? It's almost like I don't feel it's okay to have dreams in my future because it doesn't exist - only the present does. Which then screws with me [link] [comments] |
Healing trauma, self limiting beliefs, getting rid of negativity Posted: 24 May 2021 08:34 PM PDT I was wondering if you guys had any beginner friendly advice on how to approach this. I'm sick of sabotaging myself and I know I have to fix this part of my subconscious if I want to advance in my life. Hopefully it can help many others as well. [link] [comments] |
Pressure in nose bridge during meditation Posted: 24 May 2021 08:31 PM PDT I've read a few postings on this but they seemed to be older. Once I've been sitting in meditation for a bit and I'm really in the flow with it I start feeling pressure build up in my nose bridge. I do have sinuses acting up occasionally so I assumed that it was likely related here, but why once I relax? Guess because I'm more aware of that? I've been meditating for well over a year and only started experiencing this within the last few weeks [link] [comments] |

I thought life is much more simple. Posted: 24 May 2021 03:03 AM PDT I'm very young. I didn't really try to find the meaning of life before, I lived and experienced the small steps of growing up, of living and I really had no concern or idea about questioning our being and it's reason. At summer, I met a girl, who was really into spiritual thinking and meditating. She is 10 years older than me and after the first words we spoke I knew, she is very wise and she was insanely calm. I spent some time with her and I got introduced to meditating. I already heard about it, but I didn't really think that I needed any more knowledge about myself or the world I'm living in. I started practicing and I got hooked. After the first weeks, I noticed that I am looking at the world through different glasses. I was a really materialist person. I was more interested in my belongings than my friends and it was really unhealthy. Before the first time I started meditating, I had a really rought time with pot. It made my everyday routines less interesting and changed my whole perspective of life. I thought that it's normal. Like I said, I'm not that old, It wasn't so easy. I almost got introduced to harder drugs and I thought that life is about these experiences, that it's about being always happy and relieved. Right now after more than 6 months of meditating I got to know, It's much more complex and this is why our journey is so beautiful. What could we learn about ourselves in this life if everything would be about happiness and joy? So take a moment and appreciate the complexities of our lives. They are giving the meaning of this journey. Have a nice day, thank you so much for reading my post.:) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 May 2021 12:56 PM PDT I cant find any good and free meditation app. Would love some suggestions. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 May 2021 05:24 PM PDT From being able to deal with everyday stress better to being able to overcome fear of rejection or even social anxiety, I see quite a few posts about how people have benefited from regular meditation. I think it would be nice to know a little about the meditation technique they use, duration of each session, how long they have been practicing it for... etc. like a small paragraph at the end of their post would be very useful. This will help other redditors to become hopeful and set realistic expectations for themselves. Cheers :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 May 2021 06:44 PM PDT What's your favorite app/way to meditate? I've been using the Mimi method app, but they're kinda short. Does anyone have any recommendations? Insight timer kinda has too many options so I spend more time picking a meditation than I do mediating! I feel like I'm losing my focus and spending too much time picking them out lately [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 May 2021 11:46 PM PDT This is what I want to do, this is what my intuition is telling me to do, it's the only way to shut the voices in my head, only way to prevent me from dying, i need to find the light in darkness and hear the voice in the silence than i will be healed. how to meditate longer maybe for like 20-30 minutes in one session Posted: 24 May 2021 11:36 PM PDT |
New to mediation, started two days a go and I feel weird... Posted: 24 May 2021 11:23 PM PDT I have been suffering from anxiety and air hungerfor a while now so out of desperation I dicided to try mediation/mindfulness. I download an app (serenity), learned a bit about belly breathing and meditated twice a day and I feel now kinda weird. I breath better now (although I still have a little air hunger) and I have this weird feeling like I have a void in me. Is it normal for mediation? Or is my anxiety is just mess with me? Long time mediators, for how long can you hold your focus on your breath without getting distracted? Posted: 24 May 2021 03:49 PM PDT When I was starting out, maintaining focus between two breaths seemed like an impossible task, but now I can go as far as 15 breaths if I'm counting them and sometimes more. Everyone else may or may not count it, but does this focus keep on increasing and increasing with time or are distractions after a short while of concentration a thing with everyone regardless of their time spent on meditation. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 May 2021 03:18 PM PDT Decided to get back into meditation after I stopped around 6 months ago, I have occasionally been doing it every now and then since then but I found I spent much time with internal dialogue and resisting it felt so hard and almost pointless I never really stuck to it, but I did it again today and it almost felt like once I got back into a really deep state my mind was indulging in this mulch needed time I had been missing out, it was insanely relaxing, felt slightly dizzy at times and almost lost sense of which way was up, best drug I've ever taken. Posted: 24 May 2021 12:50 PM PDT Clouds are lit up from behind by the setting sun which gives them a golden edge. The sky is blue and grey and yellow. Slowly becoming darker as the sun sinks lower and lower. In the distance you can see buildings and trees, their silhouettes are clearly visible against the horizon. The trees are still from the absence of wind. The world is green and wet after a day of rain and thunderstorms. Even though it is already the second half of May, the days are still mostly cold and wet. There is a blackbird close by, marking its territory with its songs. The only noise, apart from the clock that's softly ticking away the minutes before the sun has fully set. The world is at peace. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 May 2021 06:44 PM PDT I'm new here but just wanted to share an object of meditation that I've been enjoying: the wind. I sit on my little balcony and just focus on the physical sensation of the wind as it ebbs and flows across me. I live near the water so there's often a breeze, and when I lose focus, a gust of wind always brings me back. Sometimes it's a bit cold, but then I just focus on the sensation of cold. It's been great for me recently! Do you have a favourite object of meditation you could share? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
How to introduce meditation to a friend! Posted: 24 May 2021 08:30 AM PDT Hi all. I haven't been meditating super long but long enough to see how its helped my social anxiety and helped me be able to observe myself sometimes. I am starting to notice that one of my friends is pretty anxious and he doesn't even know it. I see it rub off on me and other friends as well. I really think meditation could help him calm down a bit and appreciate life more but really don't know how to introduce him to it without him rejecting it completely or coming off as pretentious. My uncle introduced me to the waking up app, which has been an amazing guide but I am not sure he is open minded enough to try it. Hope everyone has a great day! [link] [comments] |
How the hell do I meditate with adhd? Posted: 24 May 2021 11:24 AM PDT Sitting in a room alone for even 2 minutes is painfully boring to me. What do I do? Also, what kind of meditation do you recommend to someone with adhd? [link] [comments] |
