Managing expectations as a beginner Posted: 26 May 2021 08:18 PM PDT I consider myself less flexible than average; although I have been able to touch my toes at certain points in the last few years I have never been able to comfortably sit cross-legged and though I've always wished I could do a split even after months of leg stretches a while back I felt like I hadn't gained any progress. My question is, if I follow a consistent flexibility routine, will I be able to achieve any goal with enough time? Or do certain factors of natural flexibility separate people? For example, can any person do the splits if they work at it enough? I've tried stretching and yoga at various points throughout my life but have always given up because it seemed futile. Although I recognize the importance of maintaining (even bad) flexibility, it's disheartening not to see improvement even after months. [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 May 2021 03:43 PM PDT Good late evening everyone In 3-4 months I managed to improve hamstring flexibility ! :D I went from barely touching my thumbs( I would elevate thumbs so its bit higher and easier to reach with fingers 😂😂 to touching the floor with whole palms completely. Do you think this is akward, bad, good ,amazing progress? Can you rate it from 1-10 I did 3-5 times a week 15-20 min hamstring flexibility routine performed by SaturnoMovement(yt,15 min hamstring beginmer routine). I was gradually lengthening the routine as I progressed Considering the time spent could have I progressed much more or this is great?? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Is there a (flexibility-oriented) 'dictionary' of muscles? Posted: 26 May 2021 10:15 AM PDT Using online articles and a couple of books I bought, I've been compiling my own Excel spreadsheet of stretches and exercises. But I've come to dislike how haphazard and incomplete the process is; I feel like I'm just shooting in the dark. What I would really like is a sort of muscle 'dictionary' that includes, for each muscle, 1. the most targeted stretch for it and 2. the most targeted exercise for it. Like, here's a diagram of your biceps femoris. Here's the best stretch for it. Here's the best exercise for it. Next. Ideally, this book would be complete, in the sense of containing stretches and exercises for every possible muscle that someone would want to stretch or exercise. (Within reason, I guess. Probably not too many people are interested in stretching or exercising their nasalis...) Does such a book exist? If not, what's the nearest equivalent? [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 May 2021 01:38 PM PDT I think I may have gone too hard on my first week of stretching for front splits. I found this video from blogilates for stretches to do splits and was doing the warm up before that, but I think I overdid it because now I have this low back pain that made me not only hurt but be less flexible. I did the stretches for 5 days last week and 3 this week but today I found that I had to stop before the splits part cause I was just too stiff to go on. I guess my question is if you guys have any advice for low back pain and also what I might have done wrong or if you recommend a different stretch video, idk, something on those lines. Any help is much appreciated! I think I'll take a break for a day or two before going back. [link] [comments]
Is this routine adequate for my goals ? Posted: 26 May 2021 11:55 AM PDT So my goal is to be more flexible overall i want to be able to touch my toes while being straight ,atg squat and reverse prayer. So i am doing this routine daily in the morning: And during the evening i choose one of these: Is will this produce the results i desire?there are so many videos, routine, programs etc that i am kind-off overwhelmed with information. Also any beginner tips are welcomed.I always wanted to do cool stuff like splits, handstand, and other cool stretches and moves but i never really tried because i am naturally stiff, but i decided to change that this summer.
