Pigeon pose makes my feet fall asleep

    Posted: 25 May 2021 06:28 PM PDT

I'm a beginner to the practice and I have been having trouble with pigeon pose. When I go into pigeon pose my feet start to tingle then go numb. I don't know how to modify the pose to keep my feet from going numb. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Finding this old yoga video from my childhood.

    Posted: 25 May 2021 08:35 PM PDT

When I was around 4 I used to do this yoga video thing with my mum. I remember there were three people, 2 men and one woman they were all around 50-60 years old I think . I think they may have been from somewhere in south east Asia like India. One was wearing a red turban and they used these weird camera distortions/filters where the people would look like they had dwarfism. Towards the end of the video there was a breathing exercise where the guy in the turban was in front of a green screen volcano. If anyone can help me find it or knows what I'm talking about let me know thanks.

    Plus size yogi

    Posted: 25 May 2021 10:41 AM PDT

Hi everyone, I really want to have a solid yoga practice but with how overweight and out of shape I am, I find myself not being able to do most of the moves because I'm either not flexible enough or it's too painful. I would love to join a yoga studio and have a community that can support me but I'm just so embarrassed. Does anyone have any tips for how I can overcome this?

Felt like I was transported in my mind? Strong vision after ashtanga yoga

    Posted: 25 May 2021 07:14 PM PDT

I am not a regular practitioner of yoga. I take classes few times a year because I know it's good for me but have always battled with committing to it (until maybe now).

This experience happened over a year ago but I have no idea what to think about it. I had signed up for an ashtanga yoga class on a whim and dove right into a 90 minute intense class. I remember it was really challenging in the moment trying to keep up with each movement and breathe with the cues in the beginning all my mental focus was on thinking how hard and miserable it was. However those feelings quieted down as class went on and by the end of the 90 minute it was just sweet relief when it was finally over. I was laying down eyes closed and it was so utterly relaxing. There was a fan on in the room and the sound of it whirring almost "transported" me into a blissful place in my mind. The vision was so strong and clear that I was in what looked like a clearing in a jungle. The whirring of the fan turned into the sound of a helicopter waiting to take off. I then saw my sister but as a child and my grandmother also as a younger version of herself. Both passed away a few years ago, my sister as an adult in a car crash that devastated me and my family. But I saw her in this vision now as the kid version of herself and I was lucid and overwhelmed and gave her a tight hug. No words were exchanged per se, just intense emotions. And then I knew it was time for her to go and she started away to meet my grandmother who was waiting by the helicopter to go.

And that was it, I was back in the yoga studio. Soon after I started getting really emotional, like sad it was welling up in me. I hurried to the bathroom where I started sobbing and it just became more and more uncontrollable and loud. I ran out of the studio and to my car and as I started driving home it was like a dam broke loose. It was uncontrollable weeping and then screaming I kind of scared myself the noises coming out of me were pure agony and howling. In the moment I remembered thinking as I finally stopped crying that I felt relief and a little lighter but also had the realization that even after 5 years of my sister passing and thinking I was okay now deep down maybe I still had unresolved grief and pain that I hadn't addressed..

Now I share all this to ask - has anybody, ANYBODY experienced something like this before?

    Posted: 25 May 2021 04:15 PM PDT

    Hi Guys,

My back has been always aching and I always do cobra stretch and downward dog to stretch my spine out.

It's mainly my upper spine thats's giving me discomfort.

I was wondering if you guys have any chair recommendations that will help with that kind of area (upper spine).

    Thank you!

After some searching I’d like to start Yoga with Adrienne. Not sure which “program” to start!

    Posted: 25 May 2021 06:17 PM PDT

The past couple months I've been on quite a spiritual journey and consuming all sorts of books. Many of them mention yoga and I'm totally into trying this out.

My wife had a Beachbody account and I had about a weeks worth of 3 Week Yoga Retreat under my belt but our subscription expired today. I enjoyed it but looking for other suggestions.

I'm a 37 yo male with no yoga xp aside from this past week from beachbody. But I tell you, I've felt great and I really want to keep it up! I'm doing this for not only the physical benefits but also the spiritual benefits (mindfulness, chakras, etc.). I live in a small town and there aren't any real classes here so I'm sort of bound to at home training.

I did some searching on this sub and two I hear about consistently were "doyogawithme.com" and "yoga with adrien" on youtube. I decided to try Yoga with Adrienne after watching some clips. Problem is I'm having a hard time deciding which program to start with! Looks like there are several to chose from on her website/channel. Would love to hear suggestions!!

    Thanks in advance!

I can't do Baksana and other handstand poses.

    Posted: 25 May 2021 07:58 AM PDT

Hello everyone. When this pandemic situations starts, I decided learn yoga. I started with Down Dog app and I've been doing regulary (3 days back to back and after 1 day off, 2 days back to back and 1 day off schedule) yoga for a year. I gained a certain flexibility, strength and endurance but I can't just do Bakasana or other handstand pose. I don't think my arms are that weak but I just can't lift my legs and I can not balance. Is there any tricks and recommends for that poses? Cause I stucked at this level and I can not move forward for improvement. Sorry for my bad grammer and typos, I'm not native.

    Breathing during Crow

    Posted: 25 May 2021 06:46 AM PDT

Hi everyone! So, my Crow is pretty solid in form in this point. However, I'm struggling with holding the pose because I either find myself holding my breath or taking shallow breaths because I'm using my core to hold me up. Does anyone have any advice? Where are you taking your breaths from- chest or abdomen?

Suggestions for simple routine to do at home on days I don’t go to the studio

    Posted: 24 May 2021 09:17 PM PDT

I'm a bit nervous to post in here as everyone seems very advanced, but here goes!

I'm very new to yoga, having only done it as a complement to other work outs in the past, and not as it's own workout / practice.

I am currently 6 months postpartum and went through a rough recovery, including weekly physical therapy mainly for hips and back. I'm now cleared for yoga and walking (yay!) and have joined a studio where I am aiming to do 3-4 sessions a week (1-2 restorative and 2 either vin/yin or hatha flow classes). So far I love it, and I think it will help me in the long run. I would like to keep yoga in my life long term and eventually become proficient at it.

That being said, I'd really like to add a daily practice for the days that I don't go to the studio, just to improve hip flexibility, core strength etc and aid in my progress with in-class routines.

Does have any suggestions of a quick (10-20 min) routine I could do at home? There are thousands of apps / videos out there. I was going to buy some yoga cards and try and figure one out for myself, but thought I would ask here first...

    Thanks in advance #yoganewbie
