[COMP] I can't post this from my beach vacation because there are people in my circles who would disown me for doing yoga, but I had fun with beach yoga! Advice appreciated.

This dog is a yoga pro

Took me 3 hours to complete a 1 hour routine this morning.

    Posted: 19 May 2021 05:53 AM PDT

Usually just do it straight through with no issue. Woke up in an awful mood today and couldn't get my head straight. Kept getting angry and walking away from the mat. So glad I got through it, happier with myself today than I am on the smooth days. Days like today are what it's all about.

    Edit: wording

Need a good tutorial for humming bee pranayam

    Posted: 19 May 2021 01:36 PM PDT

Hello fellow yogis. I suffer from severe anxiety disorder and insomnia. My therapist recently suggested that I try the bhramari pranayam, also known as the humming bee pranayam. If anyone has a good link or video tutorial for it, I will be really grateful.

41M India dizziness or lightheaded after two days of holding breath exercises.

    Posted: 19 May 2021 08:59 PM PDT

In general I'm a healthy person with good workout regimen - both strength and yoga. During corona times, I came across videos of holding breath to test lung capacity. I think I may have overdone it to show off. Couple of times a day with no discipline of food or posture. Two or Three days after I've started feeling dizzy and lightheaded through the day. Nothing that I cannot work with but I wish it weren't there. Have I thrown off some co2/o2 balance or hurt my ear or ? Any recos to overcome current issue? Apart from of course stop being stupid.

    Howdy and a question

    Posted: 19 May 2021 02:38 PM PDT

I just joined this subreddit and wanted to say "hi"!

One question I have is how much yoga might be able to help me with very, very inflexible hips. I think my hips are so tight all of the time that it is causing me to sometimes pull muscles around my knees. I am willing to dedicate some time to any discipline if it would help. My wife subscribed to Yoga Glo a few months ago and I started trying it last week and really noticed how much better my knees felt after each session. Thank you.

Outer Knee in Dancer and Bow Pose

    Posted: 19 May 2021 05:48 PM PDT

I was wondering if anyone has any information about the outside of the knee, next to knee cap (I'm thinking it's the Lateral Collateral Ligament?) hurting or feeling tweaked in Dancer and Bow Pose specifically. I've scoured the internet for info about either what I need to strengthen or what I'm doing wrong, but I haven't seen anything specific to these two poses. I don't have a history of knee injury and it happens on both legs. I never feel this in the other typical knee-ouch poses, like Hero or Half Pigeon (I'm not at the point of attempting Lotus right now). I have felt this for years whenever attempting Dancer and Bow, so it's not an acute issue, and outside of these poses I never feel that sensation. I have relatively open hips, I've tried reversing my hold in both poses but it doesn't seem to make a difference - the action of pushing my foot into my hand seems to be what makes it feel like it's over-extended or something. What can I do or focus on to strengthen or protect my knee in Bow and Dancer? I'm not looking for medical advice, just trying to figure out if it's alignment or strength or posture or what. It's bumming me out!

Yoga butt - strengthening and prevention

    Posted: 19 May 2021 12:10 PM PDT

A recent post from LivInLeggings finally gave me a name for the situation I've been dealing with for the past two months: YOGA BUTT. I wasn't sure whether it was a hamstring strain or a glute strain since the pain was right in the middle of where the two met. I got this pain after I finally dropped down in my splits two months ago and have been feeling it in forward folds ever since.

In the post she listed a couple of hamstring strengthening exercises. What I'm wondering is if hamstring hypertrophy exercises with weights will help. Like hamstring curls on the machine at the gym or Romanian deadlifts. I also feel my hamstring in the bottom of doing a barbell squat, so I'm wondering if continuing to do squats is making it worse or strengthening it and therefore helpful.

I read in some comments on another post on here awhile back that the hamstring and glute strengthening that you need for yoga isn't the kind of strength you can get from weighted exercises like squats, deadlifts, and hip thrusts. Like, doing those things won't help you improve your standing splits and other active stretching poses. Is that true? And if so, is that the case with hamstring strengthening exercises to prevent yoga butt?

    200 hour certification

    Posted: 19 May 2021 10:02 AM PDT

Hi all! I'm recently looking into the certification and wondering why it is that some programs are $400 on sale while others are $3500? Any insight into this and recommendations for an accredited program? I'd obviously rather not overspend but I want to make sure my training is good and will be respected among studios. Thanks!

    Mats for hot yoga?

Suggestions for a good mat with good grip for hot yoga? I have heard lululemon mats stain easily unless you get a black one. Thoughts?

Heed help recognizing pain after yoga practice

    Posted: 19 May 2021 06:25 AM PDT

Hey everyone. I've been practicing ishvara yoga for 5 months now. Nearly three weeks ago I started experiencing a strange feeling in my hip, more specifically in the hip joint or somewhere around it. I feel pain in paschimottanasana (seated forward-bending), and after that it hurts in every pose that requires hip flexibility. Pain also occurs when I walk or move my leg in everyday life.

I can't figure out if that's my joint or muscle hurt. Might it be that my hip is slightly dislocated? Has anyone experienced something like this? Please share your thoughts.

    Herniated Disc

    Posted: 19 May 2021 04:58 AM PDT

I was just diagnosed with a herniated disc (L4 & L5). I can barely walk - the pressure on my nerves is so bad. I'm focused on healing it right now and I'm seeing some progress - mostly with poses like half cobra and happy puppy and modified pigeon (on my back).

I'm Super bummed because everything I've read says forward folding is just about the worst thing I can do for a herniated disc. Does this mean no more forward folds, child's pose, downward facing dog for the rest of my life? Has anyone here suffered a herniated disk, healed, and returned to a full yoga practice? Tips or advice from anyone who's experienced this? Many thanks in advance.

    Need tips for stretching

    Posted: 19 May 2021 03:42 AM PDT

I'm new to yoga, but while practising it I noticed that the left part of my body is well-stretched, while the right one (from my shoulder and shoulder-blade down to my hip) is like chained and sometimes it's aching during yoga. I haven't got any injuries, so can anyone help me and suggest any good exercises and tips for stretching my right body side? Should I do the same exercises, but more for the right body parts, or is there another way to train them?
