Beginning my practice again after a long time off. Words of encouragement/advice appreciated!

    Posted: 24 May 2021 10:05 AM PDT

    Hello yogis,

I just started getting back into my routine after having taken a long time off... I hadn't really been exercising since before covid hit, in all honesty.

I've found that I'm much weaker now that I was! There was a time when I could fairly easily flow through from plank to chaturanga into updog and I've just lost all the upper body strength I had.

I started again doing three sessions a week for only 45 minutes rather than the longer sessions I used to do, I want to give myself time to acclimate to my practice again before I start doing it more often and for longer.

My questions for all of you are, for those of you who went a long time between exercising, how long did you find it took until you were able to reach where you had been? Did you ever get back there? Did it bother you if you did not? Are you glad you started again?

I wish you all the best with your practice whatever it looks like for you and want to say thanks in advance for any encouragement!

How to deal with fear of headstand "pushing on my skull"?

    Posted: 24 May 2021 11:00 AM PDT

I'm getting back into a regular yoga practice and am trying to practice headstands more. They've always freaked me out though.

I know how to do a headstand properly - I don't put too much weight on my head, don't feel any neck or spine issues, and have no problem with inversions in general, like handstands.

My concern is my skull bone, the part touching the floor. It just feels like there's so much pressure concentrated on a small spot that isn't used to bearing any weight - it feels so "wrong", like I'm going to flatten or break the bone. For this reason, I only ever practice very short duration with a ton of padding.

I guess I'm here looking for reassurance that this skull-pressure feeling is "normal", and advice on how to get over my fear. Any tips are appreciated!

    Yoga for knee pain relief

    Posted: 24 May 2021 08:25 AM PDT

First and foremost, good day to everyone! As mentioned in the title, I want to know if Yoga may help with chronic knee pain. I am new to this and someone recommended giving it a try, but I want to hear your opinion on this. Thanks in advance for any response! :)

Anyone experience instep/foot pain during flows & how to remedy or prevent?

    Posted: 24 May 2021 06:24 PM PDT

I thought a few months ago it was just because I've been out of practice but it keeps showing up throughout the week. I tend to practice 2-4 hours per week, and particularly during one leg balance poses like standing splits, half moon etc. I can get this vicious ache in my instep. It doesn't always occur, I especially notice it if I've taken 2+ days off from yoga (but usually doing something else movement wise). Thanks in advance for your advice!!

Bad Calf Pain while running -- Stretch/ Excercise Recommendations?

    Posted: 24 May 2021 05:23 PM PDT

I'm only 21 but have pretty bad pain in my calves whenever I run or even stand for an extended period. I used to run pretty regularly without stretching at all in middle/ high school, which I think was... not a good move. Plus, a lot of the running in middle school was before I hit my growth spurt which I've heard can also be bad for muscle growth; I'd run nearly 2 miles everyday before school.

Any advice on stretches for this?

Total newbie to purchase a yoga app?

    Posted: 24 May 2021 10:02 AM PDT

I mainly do strength training and plan to do yoga for active recovery days or when I'm too tired from work to lift (working 12 hr shifts as a nurse). I saw this great app called Down Dog but I was wondering if it's worth to pay for it if I would only do 2, maybe rarely 3x a week of yoga?

    Anterior pelvic tilt

    Posted: 24 May 2021 03:43 PM PDT

Would it be bad if I did push ups 3 times a week and stretches for anterior pelvic tilt after I finish with push ups for that day?I would do stretches every day.

    Keeping yourself motivated

    Posted: 24 May 2021 10:17 AM PDT

It's been almost a year since I started yoga. I don't know why but I don't think so I am going anywhere in my training . It's like I am still not able to do many poses which my friends are able to do with few months of training and some poses I don't even attempt like head stand makes me feel nauseous. Anyway so basically my concern right now is that I don't know how long should I practice and what should be the path. Because right now all I've been doing is depending on my morning schedule picking up a 20-30 min yoga random video and practicing it.

    Energy movement during yoga ?!

    Posted: 24 May 2021 07:45 AM PDT

When moving from one pose to next ( especially movement of hands ) do you feel the movement of energy? I feel some pressured air movement in forearms and hands when I move from one posture to the next. What does it means ?

Is shoulder pain normal in plank?

    Posted: 24 May 2021 01:32 PM PDT

Also does it go away after awhile? I'm not sure if it's an issue of not being used to the position or if it's always going to feel that way. I hope this makes sense.

Any advice on how to get better at forearm handstands? There are so many moves you can do and I’ve always wanted to do them.

    Posted: 24 May 2021 08:29 AM PDT

I've been practicing with a wall and stuff but I'm not sure I'm getting any better. I've been trying to work on some arm strength and core strength when I workout to help but otherwise🤷‍♀️

    Handstand block recommendations please

    Posted: 24 May 2021 10:59 AM PDT

I'm looking to start doing arm balance inversions, I've currently got some cheap foam yoga blocks but have read that handstand blocks are narrower and sturdier - any recommendations? Price point is ideally under £20.

    Hatha Yoga

    Posted: 24 May 2021 07:09 AM PDT

Is it normal after a hatha practice to feel tired and needing a nap? Should I look for a different style of yoga to follow in my new practice?

How long should I wait before I lift after doing yoga?

    Posted: 23 May 2021 11:50 PM PDT

I want to do the 30 day yoga with Adriene in the morning and do heavy lifting later in the day. Just not sure how much space to leave between the two.
