Calf stretching program for extremely tight calves?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 11:19 PM PDT

My calves are super tight lately. Standing with my heel flat on the ground is a big stretch and takes me a couple of minutes to get there first thing in the morning. I notice myself lazily walking around the house on tiptoe because it's easier than taking the time to ease my heels down to the ground (also because I need to be on tiptoe to reach any cupboards or shelves so why bother transitioning when I could just stay up, lol).

I do 20 minutes of yoga every day, usually some variation on sun salutations, and walk for about 30 minutes a day (in addition to an hour and a bit of running - my main sports focus) but this isn't enough to stretch out my calves. Does anyone have a program that has worked for them? I know I can just do the classic lean on a wall calf stretch but how many times, how long to hold, etc? Please note that I am not flexible enough to do any kind of squats.

BTW I've lived barefoot for four years, so it's not a shoe issue.

Should I practice the pike first ?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 01:09 AM PDT

As a beginner, should I practice the pike/forward fold position before trying to practice the splits ? I ask this question because I round my back a lot and therefore I have a hard time feeling my hamstring in a lot of stretches ! I also feel nothing in the pancake position.. Sorry if it's a dumb question ..

Best squat and deadlift variation for hip mobility?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 10:30 PM PDT

Title kinda says it all. Male here with very flexible hips and splits. I deadlift and squat regularly. Nothing crazy, just 1.5 bodyweight on each. Wondering what variation would benefit my flexibility training the most and interested in hearing everyone's opinion. Thanks in advance :)

Is this unusually bad posture or just a typical case that can be corrected

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 12:23 PM PDT

I think we all know how our modern habits can cause discomfort in the upper body. This 35-min routine is designed to get back feel-good, flexible shoulders. It also includes a brief "so hum" meditation. So hum = I am that. ✨

Strong pain in lateral collateral ligament when I do one specific adductor stretching exercise

Strong pain in lateral collateral ligament when I do one specific adductor stretching exercise

Hi guys, so I've been stretching my body regularly since last summer and gotten lot more flexible since then. However, there's one adductor exercise that is really uncomfortable to do as I get a very "local" pain, in what I think is my lateral collateral ligament in both knees. It's when I do the exercise below ↓ ... No other adductor stretching exercise triggers this pain, so I wondered why this one does and how to fix it. The pain does not prevent me from holding the stretch for the 30-60 seconds needed and there's no pain after I'm finished with the stretch, nor when I press the area with my fingers.

Also, I don't have any knee problems at all.

I would appreciate any help for a remedy. Thanks in advance.

Learning how to do the splits

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 07:33 AM PDT

Is the best way to learn how to do the splits practicing the splits? Are there any other ways or methods that could help? Should I do the splits (or any flexibility exercises for that matter) under load to further progress?

    Thanks!

    Noob questions about targeting areas

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 06:29 AM PDT

Is there a list anywhere of what stretches target what areas? Im looking for back flexibility (both directions) as well as whatever i need to reach my feet more easily.

secondly wondering what the issue could be thats causing my lower back pain when i stand. i wear skechers steel toe sneakers at work which are very comfortable, but after even 10 minutes of standing i get a pain and stiffness in my lower back that is only alleviated by hunching forward or sitting down. i recently bought some barefoot shoes that im trying to wear more often than not, but transitioning to a different foot strike to walk in those is taking a while. are the shoes to blame for that back pain, or is there something im doing/not doing to cause it?
