Does range of dead lift matters a lot? Posted: 03 Jun 2021 12:05 AM PDT I have seen some people do very little motion when doing dead lifts so I wonder if it is dangerous to do dead lifts with short hamstrings and if it affects your progress at building muscle if your range is too short. Tight muscles in neck/shoulders- what to do? Posted: 02 Jun 2021 11:50 AM PDT Not sure if this is the right place to post but I have really tight muscles in my neck, shoulders (well actually the curve where my neck and shoulders meet, I'm not sure what that's called- trapezius?) My husband has commented on how tight/tense I feel there. I work at a desk job and always very aware of my posture and trying to correct myself. I look down at my phone a lot and I'm trying to not do that as much. I've done stretches like shoulder shrugs and gently stretching my neck left and right but I almost feel like the next day I'll feel more sore/strained. Do I just need a really good deep tissue massage to loosen the "knots" ? Do devices like neck massagers actually work? Thank you! [link] [comments]
I feel pain when I sit flat with my feet underneath me (Vajrasana pose), how can I improve this? Posted: 02 Jun 2021 11:56 AM PDT My big toes naturally curve upwards and don't lie flat. Ever since I was little, I couldn't do the basic sit down pose and would often get in trouble. When I go to yoga studios, I have to sit with my feet to the side or sit with my legs crossed (but even that hurts my ankles). I can sit on my toes fine and that's actually way more comfortable. I want to be able to sit on my feet, what can I do? If I'm standing and straighten out my foot, I almost immediately get a charlie horse. [link] [comments]
I literally can't even do an air squat Posted: 02 Jun 2021 10:36 AM PDT I am over 5'11, normal weight, yet i can't do even a body squat due to tightness everywhere. What is the root cause? I do have tight hip flexors which I'm sure doesn't help, but I've also heard tight ankles could be the culprit. Any help would be appreciated. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Jun 2021 06:58 AM PDT I would like to start stretching during my MANY online meetings during work. This is probably the best time for me to squeeze this into my schedule and I am just beginning my stretching journey. Since I am still working at home (Covid-19) I could do some stairs before my meetings or walk around the house but what would you suggest as a minimum before beginning? [link] [comments]
Active Heel-to-Buttocks Flexibility Posted: 02 Jun 2021 10:43 AM PDT I have never had any difficulty sitting with full knee bend (as in Hero Pose/Virasana), but if I attempt to lift my heel to my butt by contracting my hamstrings in a standing position, I am unable to close the angle at the knee to less than 60 degrees unless I'm using momentum, which I'm trying to avoid. Thus far, the only thing I have found that seems to let me work deeper into that range of motion is to lie on my belly with a dumbell-loaded Monkey Foot on one foot, and perform a hamstring curl; the first part of the movement--from 180 degrees to 90 degrees at the knee--is a resistance exercise, but past that point, the weight on my foot acts to pull my leg a bit deeper into the stretch. My intention is to stick to the weight I'm using currently until my heel touches my buttocks regularly, then I can reduce the weight until eventually I can do it with a bare foot; then I'd start working on adding weight and doing it standing where the weight provides resistance for the whole movement. However, I was wondering if there any other recommended ways to build active flexibility in this range? Googling this seems to return quite a few results for people who can't pull their hell to their butt with their hands, or can't sit on their heels, but I've not seen discussion of doing it with hamstring contraction alone.
