People talking about themselves and materialism Posted: 29 Jun 2021 03:45 AM PDT I don't know whether this is coming from meditating, but I'm really noticing two things:
These types of people and talks, seem to stand out more. I can't put my finger in exactly how it's affecting me. I'm just very mindful of it. It's like this type of talk in others has been amplified. Anyone else notice this? [link] [comments]
I've been meditating for 70 days. Not seeing any results. Is this normal? Can anyone help me? Posted: 29 Jun 2021 04:55 AM PDT Hi guys, I had a traumatic experience in 2019 and it sent me into a deep depression, where I have been languishing for around 20 months. One of the side effects of the depression is a seriously sped up mind. My thoughts race at the speed of light and I have become extremely impulsive. Simple tasks take an age to complete because I flip and flip from one thing to another as my impulsive mind gets distracted this way and that. I began meditation as a potential way of healing and calming my mind. I started with a meditation band, Muse, and then just switched to a basic style of sitting and trying to concentrate on my breath. Tomorrow will be my 70th successive day of meditation. I do it in the morning and the evening and average around 40 minutes a day. The issue I am facing is that I have not seen or felt any calming of my mind. When I sit down, my mind can concentrate for about 2-3 breaths only, and then it locks on to a thought. In a 30 minute session, I am literally concentrating for tiny moment and the rest I am just trying to contend with a machine gun fire of thoughts racing into my mind. Does anyone have any experience with this, or can offer advice on what I can do to improve my meditative practice? TIA [link] [comments]
How do you practice loving kindness when you struggle to feel any love towards yourself? Posted: 28 Jun 2021 08:44 AM PDT I don't (just) mean big lows of self-esteem, though there is that too. Just sometimes, I'm trying to practice metta bhavana and I just really struggle to feel any kind of love towards myself. I'll repeat the affirmations and mantras in my head but find myself unable to connect to them. I feel scepticism, self-doubt and general negativity sometimes when I'm in this way. Sometimes it's connected to tiredness (I have a condition, it's not just a case of getting more sleep,) or sometimes I'm just not in a self-loving mood. What do you do when you're in this way and trying to practice metta meditation? Do you persist anyway, or give up and try a different form? [link] [comments]
New perspective after meditation: Nothing is the answer! Posted: 28 Jun 2021 12:27 PM PDT When you close your eyes and meditate, what do you see? Nothing! Remember the scene in Kung Fu Panda where Po find nothing written on the dragon scroll. Well that's the truth. We all come from a void of nothing. No ego. No desire. That stillness is a state of nothing and nothing is powerful. Next time you meditate, Embrace the nothingness within you and you shall find your peace. [link] [comments]
Can you successful meditate while addicted to opiates Posted: 29 Jun 2021 05:25 AM PDT So I am a opiate addict but I'm also very into meditation. I'm able to slow myself down and calm myself but my question is is it possible to get the full effects of meditation while addicted to drugs??? I know opiates mess with the brain a lot.... Messes with feeling and emotions..... All that stuff...... So are you able to truly get all the effects from meditating then?? [link] [comments]
Observe your breath without getting involved in it Posted: 29 Jun 2021 03:58 AM PDT Hi. I like to try to focus on my breath and i also prefer to just observe it, but i just seem to not be able to. I have to get involved and "manipulate it" in some way, not intentionally but i just cant stop doing it. Anyone with similar experience, please share how you let it go and just observe your breath "from the sideline"? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Jun 2021 02:27 AM PDT So yesterday I was outside my back garden to enjoy the sun. I put suncream on and I was in a reclining chair. I laid back and closed my eyes. For context, I have only meditated a handful of times in the past, unfortunately lacking the discipline to keep doing it. So anyway, I was out sunbathing. For the majority of the time I wasn't thinking of anything. I was just in the moment, enjoying the feeling of the sun on my skin and the cool breeze that would gently wave over me every now and then. It was very relaxing. I did this for around 30-45 minutes. After doing this and coming back into the house I asked myself, "What was the difference between what I just did and meditation? Was I meditating that whole time?". I began to realise that when I tried to meditate in the past, I had the "intention" of meditating, whereas when I went outside to sunbathe I had "no intention" whatsoever. I'm not sure how helpful this information is for me going forward because if I start meditating again, which I intend to, I can imagine it still being difficult to do it without the whole buildup in my mind of "Ok, I'm going to go and meditate now" and having expectations. I suppose what I'm getting at is that it's hard to meditate and have no expectations and it's the expectation that tends to make me think during the experience. When I was sunbathing I had zero expectations because I didn't think of it as meditation and it ended up being more organic if you know what I mean. Curious as to everyones thoughts on this and if you guys/gals have any experience of dealing with this or something similar? ☮ [link] [comments]
I had what I think an important insight Posted: 28 Jun 2021 08:54 AM PDT Which travelled to me for 34 years. All our lives, the lives of my parents, friends... your life, we have been foolishly shrinking the sense of time by occupying it. There is a saying 'killing time', but now I understand why. Cosmic time is out of our reach, it will never yield to our pleas for it stop, it cannot be 'killed', but our sense of time, our memory, can it take the stage of our full awareness? Instead of occupying the void that our sense of time creates, is it possible to truly shrink it by resisting to occupy it? Then you might say that the resistance will perpetuate the sense of time, fooling us yet again. There really is no way out of time that can be willed, the will is governed by the sense of time, which is memory. The other way I know to make the time work for us and not against us, is to occupy it with full awareness. [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Jun 2021 03:13 PM PDT I find it rather difficult to meditate with adhd, especially the traditional focusing on breath type of meditation. I feel like I can't keep focus even for a second. Does anyone with adhd have a specific type of meditation they like to do that helps them to keep calm and present? [link] [comments]
The trick to life is use a light but effective touch Posted: 28 Jun 2021 11:45 PM PDT I realize when I work if I don't actually "try" I subconsciously work at 90%, an hour later, 105% and 7 hours in 115%, a light touch makes your body immune to getting tired, obviously if it's hard labor that's a different story but if it's something like fast food or any job not too demanding on the body, just trust yourself that you know everything you need to know and let it flow with a light touch. If you "try" to work, you're just tensing muscles that don't need to be tensed, theoretically limiting your functions, making you THINK you're working harder but your just tiring yourself overtime. A light touch people, really gets you in the zone a lot easier increasing flow as you go on [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Jun 2021 03:06 AM PDT I love meditation and I've done it for years, not regularly but still a lot. Most of the time when I meditate for 40+ minutes I fall asleep and have extremely vivid and disturbing nightmares. This happened again yesterday and it was a pretty brutal dream, what happened in my dream has not happened in real life. Why does this happen? It happens every time I fall asleep during meditation. Is my subconscious trying to tell me something? I do have some trauma from my past, could that be the reason? Any advise how I can stop it? [link] [comments]
Is sexual fantasy a form of meditation? Posted: 28 Jun 2021 12:42 PM PDT Basically what the title says. I can get lost in fantasizing about my partner and it made me wonder if I can count that activity as meditation. Thoughts? [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Jun 2021 12:25 AM PDT Even three years ago, sketching and coloring felt so entertaining to me. My art was praised by many people within my social circle. Some even said that my drawings look as if they were printed. I never took any art classes, because it felt so natural and effortless. Today, I just don't have the patience. I just can't see the leisure in it today. It feels so boring and like a burdening chore to even start doing it, which stands in sharp contrast with the days when I would spend days just refining a completed doodle. Sometimes, I wonder if my smartphone use is responsible for it. It just reduces the number of dopamine receptors in the brain. My interest and competence in drawing faded away so gradually that I was clueless and unconcerned about it until it was painfully apparent. It was all cumulative. Even if I resolve to turn things around and force myself to sit down to draw, I would randomly sketch something primitive that I know off the top of my head without any clear end goal in my mind, and then I would stop since I will be absolutely lost where to take things from there. An hour later, I am just stupidly staring at the paper, lacking any sense of direction. I get up, take an-hour-long walk, return, and yet again, I find myself stupidly staring at the paper. I give up, go to sleep, and upon waking up, guess what happens? I am stupidly gawking at the paper, looking at triangle I made at the top-left corner of the page, the bowler hat at the bottom right, and a pentagram in the centre. These pieces are completely disjointed and don't seem to add up in the same drawing. So, experienced meditators of Reddit: can the practice of meditation reinvigorate the need to create something? Complex case: Meditation Technique Suggestions? Posted: 28 Jun 2021 08:58 AM PDT Hey guys, I'm 20 and I'm studying physics. I'm diagnosed with severe depression, ocd, and Tourette's. I've been given 10 or so other diagnoses however as it seems most don't quite know what to make of my case. I've trialed over 20 medications to no effect. I suffer from extreme brain fog, incessant counting, inability to switch tasks, slowness, poor memory, etc. It feels as though my visual system is turned off and my verbal system is hyperactive in a deleterious manner (as I think preferentially in a visual manner). There's always some meaningless junk playing over and over in my head as for instance counting. I struggle a lot with attention. I have zero control over my thoughts - I cannot direct them despite knowing how and where to. I have very little control over anything I do, I feel. I struggle a lot with intrusive thoughts, particularly taboo thoughts. I'm hoping meditation can offer me some relief. Any advice on which technique to choose? Thank you! [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Jun 2021 10:19 PM PDT I am still fairly new to Reddit so please bare with me lol so long story short I've been manifesting a new home for me which I'm currently living with my brother right now, it's been a good experience living here but I am ready to be independent and live on my own again. I found this video on YouTube that is 30 minutes long, and it's a guided meditation. First time listening to it but I could tell this was different, I was able to block outside noise for the first time, felt like time slowed down but his voice was clear, he said you're going to start feeling tingling on the body parts we focus on starting with feet n he said it'll be a white positive light going through the feet and I swear I could see/feel! the light was going through my body and when he mentions hands I felt strong tingling/energy (I was holding a yellow brucite) once he mention the white light around the head, I started seeing different colors! they started as swirls then the more I let loose they started to become patterns and designs of bright colors. Not gonna lie, my heart started to race for some reason and then I started getting a little anxious but I told myself I am protected and to trust what is happening. It did get a little too much so I peeked my eyes open for a quick second just to get some awareness that Im still in my room and I'm ok but I immediately got back into meditating and I started thinking of a home that I saw for rent earlier in the week and I felt like my head was floating. Anyone have a similar experience? Do colors mean anything? Did any of this make sense? Lol I'm still learning all about meditating, crystals, etc. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Jun 2021 10:08 PM PDT I consider my personality lame and boring and I hate the way my mind works, my boring lame thoughts. So when I discovered that I am not that my thoughts are it's kinda a relief. lol [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Jun 2021 09:36 AM PDT Hey guys! So I've been feeling calm, grounded and present from the last 14 days or so. Ofcourse I have desires as a human being, but lately I don't find myself thinking about them. Everytime I do think of them I come back to the present moment so quick, without even trying. Like I'm here and now. And that's all there is. I don't find myself thinking about the past or the future. Just now. Do you feel it's bad to be too grounded or feel too calm? [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Jun 2021 04:04 PM PDT Do you know someone (perhaps you) who talks throughout a movie or show, seemingly having a comment for every little thing on the screen? If your life were a movie, that person would be your mind; always with something to say about each moment. I was a movie talker, but one day I decided that anytime I would notice I was doing it, I'd stop. I no longer feel the need to talk while watching TV, now I just watch the movie!
