How do yoga teachers feel about being given requests? Posted: 25 Jun 2021 07:01 PM PDT Sometimes yoga classes start with the teacher asking if there are any requests-- I go to a small studio so I am usually one of two/three people in the class, and the teacher often asks if we have any requests. I would like to request more shoulder stands, but we never do anything close-- it's a vinyasa class and with this particular teacher there is usually an emphasis on three legged stances and balancing to work the lower body. Would it be disruptive to request for something we never do? Do teachers take that as inspiration, or are they annoyed at having to think of whole new routine to get the class warmed up and safely into a shoulder stand without any notice? [link] [comments] |
Online classes that are anti racist and anti caste? Posted: 25 Jun 2021 11:39 AM PDT Hi yogis! I've been following Susanna Barkataki on IG since I heard her interview on the Good Ancestor Podcast. I completely agree with her views on participating in an activity anti-racist yoga practice, and looking into it further, I think addressing and dismantling the historic ties yoga has with enforcing the caste system should be a priority as well. So to that end, I am trying to find online classes or studios that engage with these issues. Does anyone know of any such classes? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 25 Jun 2021 03:56 PM PDT Think about it... When all those yogis and meditators sit, they seem to distribute weight across all vertebrae. I'm just realizing how much pain I get from sitting most of the day in my chair: my testicles hurt, my neck hurts, everything fucking hurts. I know mostly nothing about yoga but I've sticked to a couple postures over the years and there's something to it... [link] [comments] |
First time teaching a public class jitters Posted: 25 Jun 2021 03:08 PM PDT Oh lawd. Let me do this bee buzzing breath and get my mind tight. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jun 2021 02:19 PM PDT Namaste Yogis! 🙏 I searched the FAQs, and found things about ujjayi, but not specifically the inhale. So, I'm practicing ujjayi right now and my teacher says my exhale is great, but I need to work on my inhale for it, and that it comes from the throat. Any tips on how to make the inhale sound? Very inflexible- how long does it take? Posted: 25 Jun 2021 02:07 PM PDT I'm really stiff and used to not be able to touch my toes. After 2 years of yoga, I'm finally making progress. However, I'm still really stiff and can't do forward folds- not sure why. I can't really do many advanced poses either. I have very tight hamstrings. My core is really weak too. I was wondering if anyone was the same and how long does it take to become advanced? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 25 Jun 2021 11:19 AM PDT Ok so I just started doing yoga for about 6 months now and I absolutely love it ! It opened up my body and mind. Yoga is my number one priority body and mind related , but secondly I'd love to train for and run a marathon. I really love both running and yoga because what it does to my mind. Like I said yoga is my number one priority and I want to keep making progress and getting flexible, so I don't want to do anything that will mess with my progress in yoga. Do you guys believe I can still become very flexible and good at yoga even though I'm putting a lot of miles in running ? Do they go hand and hand ? Or does running hinder progress ? What would make me very happy is doing both running and yoga and making progress in both [link] [comments] |
Any one use Brentwood yoga mats? Posted: 25 Jun 2021 07:27 AM PDT I saw an ad for it and the concept actually looked cool - a washable yoga mat. No more towel on top and having to sanitize the yoga mat underneath. However, it's $120 which I think is expensive. And I could see this product actually not turning out as awesome as I'm imagining. Has anyone here used this product before? Any thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Have you ever been to a yoga retreat? Posted: 24 Jun 2021 11:46 PM PDT I am going to do a yoga retreat in semptemer, three days in the woods, camping. I am super excited about this, I was waiting for this opportunity for a long time! I would like you to tell me if you ever been to a yoga retreat and how was your experience! [link] [comments] |
