Turns out what I thought was yoga was actually less than half of yoga

[COMP] A few years ago, I was told I'd either need to have my lower back fused or have titanium spacers placed between 3 vertebrae. Let's just say... I don't think that's the case anymore.

    Heavy/tight chest

    Posted: 11 Jun 2021 03:15 PM PDT

Hi guys, I struggle with having a tight chest I'm not sure how else to describe it because it doesn't actually feel tight it's just hard for me to get satisfying inhales that pass through my chest? It feels like I can't inhale any further than my chest so I end up having to breath pretty intensely which puts a strain on my shoulders/back and sometimes cause my a pain in my shoulder. I used to only get this for small periods of time occasionally so would just battle through till it left and assumed it was just stress but I've had it pretty consistently at the moment and it's exhausting, I was wondering if anyone else gets this and any tips for it? I know I should just try to de stress with stuff like yoga and I've not actually practiced in a couple weeks I just struggle to stay motivated and then get more stressed about the difficulty I have breathing and fail to practice at it

Hot power yoga diet suggestions for weight loss?

    Posted: 11 Jun 2021 10:42 AM PDT

Hello yogis! Excuse any ignorance here but I can't seem to find guidance when it comes to diets and yoga.

Started doing hot power yoga about 6 weeks ago. I practice 5 days a week and 2 days I do cycling. I'm trying to lose weight but I am in love with practicing yoga and feel more powerful, flexible, and can breath so much better (history of asthma and it was coming back as an adult).

Now that I found this practice I enjoy I want to take it to the next level. I feel if I start losing some weight I can really dig into these asanas better and hold my weight up (I'm currently at 248 standing at 5'9")

Any dieting/food suggestions to help me get my diet together to help me start to lose some weight? (Nothing crazy like keto, tried and it isn't my thing)

Thanks for any advice in advance!

Yoga for those with shoulder issues and knee issues

    Posted: 11 Jun 2021 09:23 AM PDT

I'd like to improve my flexibility dramatically as part of my fitness plan, however I've very limited with most common yoga moves because of a scapular winging and knee injury from lifting weights. Where do I start? I know you can modify a lot of poses to accommodate my body's limitations, but I just want to make sure I'm doing more good than harm.?

Was doing super challenging vinyasa flows four to five days a week last year. One day, after plateauing on a lot of poses, I was no longer motivated. The whole idea of being that uncomfortable again is so unappealing. Anybody have any suggestions to get back to it?

Anyone here experience improved body movements off the mat?

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 03:51 PM PDT

I've been doing home yoga for a few months, very enjoyable in itself, but lately I've been noticing some overflow into my life off the mat. The other day I had to crawl under the bathroom stall to unlock the door (before I'd've had struggle just to get onto the floor) but I was able to crawl forward in chaturanga and rotate to reach up and unlatch it, only touching the nasty floor with hands and feet.

Then I had to change a bulb on my porch. Before I would've hauled out the ladder, but I found myself balanced perfectly well on the banister.

The cool thing is that I didn't consciously alter my movements. I didn't realize until I finished tasks like these how much my body control and mobility has improved with yoga.

can yoga help with weight loss?

    Posted: 11 Jun 2021 03:50 AM PDT

howdy i want to loss some weight, im interested in yoga because it can be done at home and its quite (dont want a complaint from neighbors) but can it be used for weight loss? From what ive seen it looks like stretches, how does it compare to cardio or lifting weights in terms of losing weight. can yoga build muscle? i want to look, thick (i think the word is, or is it bulk?) is that possible with yoga? Lastly, what are good resources for learning yoga for beginners? thanks

How much is yoga really going to help me at 24?

    Posted: 11 Jun 2021 02:10 AM PDT

I'm 24. I'm a beginner, I've tried doing yoga before, stopped because I lost the motivation, even now on a regular basis I find it hard to find the motivation to do any physical exercise, not just yoga. I have bad posture, I'm not fit but I'm not overweight either. Will yoga actually help me at this age?

Has anyone here had carpal/cubital tunnel surgery?

I'm scheduled to have both on my right arm next week, and I'm trying not to panic about how long I'm going to have to take off yoga. My doctor told me it might be 6 months or more before I can do push up positions.

If you've had these done, what was your recovery like?

    Tips on Firefly Pose (Tittibhasana)?

    Posted: 11 Jun 2021 05:06 AM PDT

    Hey!

I have been trying to get into firefly for over a year. I can hold it with bent knees, but when I go to extend my feet, I always fall on my butt.

This is a spinal extension, right? Any tips appreciated.

    Long Haired Friends, WYA?

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 07:42 AM PDT

I have long hair, almost down to my butt. Cutting it shorter isn't an option for me at the moment. I find ponytails and buns usually pull my hair and give me headaches so most often I am rocking a side braid.

Now that it's heating up where I am I am finding that less tolerable as it's making my neck sweaty.

This may seem a silly question, but what do you do with your hair when you practice?

Accounting/bookkeeping App for charity fundraiser yoga class events?

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 05:00 PM PDT

Hi I am a yoga teacher and I teach donation based yoga classes once a week to raise money for different organizations fighting for justice. 100% of profits are donated.

As my business grows I have incurred more expenses (ie. monthly online waiver form website bill etc) and I am starting to record them so that I can cover them with the class revenue.

We eventually plan to turn the business into a 501c3, but for now we want to get our foundation stronger.

Does anyone know of good software that will help us track: Attendees at each event Their donation amounts The totals donated to each charity throughout the year And all of our business expenses

The hard part is the fact that each weekly yoga event needs to be tracked seperately, but we also need monthly/annual financial data.

    Help please :) thank you.

And of course free options are preferred, but will consider affordable options too.

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 01:55 PM PDT

Hello friends i want to ask that if it is possible that yoga poses frees trapped emotions in body? So yoga changes our past ? Isn't past exist all in our head and bodies, both connected ?

Maybe it helps that way, maybe people transforms their lifes with creating space for new experinces and erasing bad trapped emotions in their body.

    What are you thinking ?

I read-heard something about that but wondering your experiences and thoughts

    Sorry for bad English :)
