Weak hips and anterior pelvic tilt?

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 06:32 PM PDT

I've been practicing yoga and Pilates for a bit, and am struggling with weak hips and anterior pelvic tilt. I feel like my upper thighs do the work when I bridge, as opposed to my hips and glutes. Does anyone have advice on how to strengthen (not just stretch) hip flexors and work on correcting an anterior pelvic tilt?

    Pancake pain

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 08:12 PM PDT

    Hey,

Whenever I go into a pancake stretch (I can't go that far) I get pain on the outside of both of my hips, I also get this pain when sitting in a char and just moving my knees away from each other. The pain is pretty bad and prevents me from doing the movements. Thoughts?

    Ashtanga practice.

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 04:13 PM PDT

Do y'all have a good YouTube video(s) for ashtanga? Hard, slow, deep poses…basics taken to the next level?

I'm not a fan of the fast paced western style of yoga.

Had anybody ever trained with Dashama Konah? Looking for feedback

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 07:27 PM PDT

I have been watching her YouTube videos for a long time and always considered training with her. Seen here https://www.dashama.org/yogateachertraining

The only mention of her on this sub is that she trademarked "30 Day Yoga Challenge" which seems a strange move.

Otherwise I would love to know if anyone has trained or has any personal expert with her? What did you think of her training etc? And should I book her?

    Many thanks

Too shy to join a studio

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 03:36 PM PDT

I've been practicing yoga for a few years now but mostly through videos and I'm really starting to get bored and want to challenge myself more by joining a studio. However, I'm super super shy.

Does anyone have any tips on how I can overcome my shyness and just push myself to go to a class IRL?

[Serious question] I am having problems with I voluntary arousal during yoga

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 11:48 AM PDT

Firstly, I am very very sorry if this is not the right place to ask this question, but I am not sure where to go.

I have started attending my girlfriend's yoga class with her. She thought it would be a nice way for us to do something shared together.

It is a mixed class, although in practice there are only two guys and about 12 women.

The problem I have is that I have a MASSIVE fetish for women in yoga gear. I also have a MASSIVE foot fetish. This basically means that from the first minute, I have a raging erection, and it lasts the whole class....

I'm sure everyone notices, although nobody says anything. So my question is, is this a nornal and accepted thing? If not, how can I fix it?

    Gurus, Yoga community and spirituality

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 05:30 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

First of all, I just want to say that all of what will be mentioned are just my experiences and opinions.I have no slight intention to offend anyone that is seeing Yoga different than me. We are all different and finds joy in different things.

Before asking a question I would like to introduce myself a bit.

I am a 34 years old guy doing Yoga for about year and a half. Before that I was practicing meditation without any physical practices.

Despite starting it so "late" I was always interested in Yoga, especially its spiritual part. From the first class of Yoga, I immediately fall in love with it.I was struck and there were no going back. I felt so relaxed, calm, and after long time in touch with myself.

In the meantime I have practiced in three studios, and I have visited two Yoga retreats.I have done some workshops and read tremendous amount of books related to Yoga.

Now, after doing Yoga for mentioned time I have started longing for community.

However, I am mostly disappointed by commercialisation of Yoga, not only on west, but across the globe.

A lot of people I have spoke with, even if they are doing Yoga for a lot of time, are seeing Yoga just as physical practice. Along with that, I am seeing too much talk about "best mat", props etc.

Yoga retreats became offensively expensive, and there are rarely long-term Yoga connections made there. What makes me disappointed also is the fact that almost with any bigger community there are some kind of sexual allegation being connected to the teacher.

What is the problem in all that is that I actually still believe in lineage, Guru/disciple connections, and I believe in community and their healing power.

I would kindly ask you to speak about your opinions and experiences on above mentioned. If you would like I would love to hear about your way of finding Guru/life-term teacher, and your community.

Do you think I am overthinking any of this? Do you think outwards we should focus on asanas only and keep spiritual part only for ourselves, is this something like common sense?

P.S. If you wish to speak about any of this privately or you would like have someone to discuss spiritual parts of Yoga, feel free to message me any time.

    Thank you

    New Teacher Advice.

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 06:19 AM PDT

    Hello,

I have completed a 200Hour teacher training course. I am a highly sensitive introvert so that was a huge step to do this. I am finding it difficult to come out of my comfort zone to try and start up a class (on zoom so far) .

Is there any advice/resources on how to structure a class, as I feel like My practice is Picking poses willy nilly without any flow.

    Any advice appreciated.

Happy baby cause anyone else to uncontrollably cry?

    Posted: 19 Jun 2021 11:56 PM PDT

So I've just been getting back into some soft stretches after an injury that involves my hips...

Every single time I do happy baby pose, without fail, I will cry anywhere from 10 mins to 2 hours afterwards and it's like a huge emotional release. It's both tears and waves of emotions. Maybe after 5 hours or so I feel "normal" again and like I'm not even that concerned with whatever I felt deeply depressed about before.

It's been like this for a while and I understand we store a lot of emotion in our hips and pelvic muscles. My question is does anyone have anymore knowledge about this emotion/body connection and additionally, when will i stop crying from the pose LOL

    Struggle with diaphragmatic breathing

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 06:03 AM PDT

It seems for other people diaphragmatic breathing is easy to figure out but for me it's not. I'm very fit , I workout everyday but I always hear about diaphragmatic breathing whether it's in yoga, meditation , or working out.

However whenever I try to do it sitting or standing my chest and shoulders rise more than anything. The only time I can get the belly to rise or move is if I actively push it out use my abdomen. But I know that's not right because I can push my stomach out without breathing etc. I know the breath is supposed to be the one to make my belly rise not me forcing the motion.

Is there anyone that could provide some insight to this and how to do it properly?
