| Meditation is making me realize I don't like getting high Posted: 20 Jun 2021 11:41 AM PDT I use medical marijuana, prescribed by a doctor, to sleep. Lately I've been breaking my own rules and smoking during the day. I've meditated while high a couple of times now and it's making me realize how my thought process changes when I'm sober vs when I'm high. When I'm sober I'm gently concentrating, mind drifting towards plans or song lyrics. When I'm high I'm incapable of concentrating, and my mind goes to a negative place. It's making me wonder if I need to find another way to sleep. I think that weed could create a really mellow, powerful meditation in theory, just not for me. Maybe I'm too anxious. | All my life I have tried to avoid pain. What a mistake this has been. Posted: 20 Jun 2021 09:09 PM PDT I suppose you could say I have always been an extremely sensitive person. This coupled with a loving but smothering upbringing, bullying, and other circumstances led to life long aversion to emotional pain of any type. I have spent my entire adult life, until the last 4 or 5 years, making my world smaller and smaller. This of course purchased for me a great load of loneliness and isolation to add to the pile. And of course I tried to numb all of it too with alcohol, weed, the internet. All of which was wonderful fuel for my ego that was busy constructing this pity fuelled victim narrative of how sad and pathetic I was. None of it in the slightest true, except ironically in the act of constructing the narrative itself perhaps lol. I so desperately wished to cling to the lie that I had control. That I could run from pain. That someone was coming to save me. What a mistake that was. In having compassion for myself now I see that it wasn't a mistake as it was inevitable. A mistake suggests I knew better at the time which I did not. But I can see all of this now so much clearer than I once could. The difficult work now is in facing pain. I have spent my entire life building a nervous system and brain pathways that LEAP into fight or flight mode at the slightest hint of approaching pain. The work now is in choosing to walk into those waters. In the context of what I'm doing right now that means choosing to put myself into the dating world. But the same would apply to other areas of my life I have chosen to shrink to nothing. To say that I'm terrified would be an understatement. I can see now that all of my life I have been feeding the seeds of fear. [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 20 Jun 2021 06:00 AM PDT Making the smallest changes can sometimes have the effect of snapping us out of autopilot and really appreciating the present moment. This is the first in a series of posts about mindfulness exercises that you can incorporate into your day. Use your non-dominant hand for some ordinary tasks throughout the day. For example, when you brush your teeth, comb your hair or eat. Using our non-dominant hands tests our patience. And not only this, it makes us really concentrate and focus on tasks that we would otherwise just rush through on auto-pilot. That's what makes it such a great mindfulness exercise! Doing this can also make us appreciate how difficult these everyday activities are for people with injuries and disabilities, and remind us how much we take for granted. | Feeling extremely sleepy while doing meditation Posted: 21 Jun 2021 01:08 AM PDT I recently started doing unguided meditation and I meditate everyday for 30 minutes in a single session. I lie on bed as I don't like sitting for that long with eyes closed I started feeling very sleepy halfway and also I am continuously getting random thoughts. I try to let them pass but they won't stop for all 30 minutes Am I doing it right? [link] [comments] |
| How long until meditation starts to work, and can the benefits be measured? Posted: 20 Jun 2021 03:29 PM PDT I know it's a fairly clinical way of approaching meditation, but I've been doing it for about 6 months now with the help of the Headspace App. I've gone through the courses from beginner to pro. But I'm still not feeling like it's giving me a great deal of benefit. Additionally, is there anything else I can add to my meditation to try and boost it's efficacy? Appreciate any feedback or assistance. [link] [comments] |
| 80-90% of your thoughts are subconscious Posted: 21 Jun 2021 12:36 AM PDT For the average joe who doesn't practise meditation, the average amount of unintentional (arising thoughts we get attached to), habitual thoughts, behaviours and actions are 80-90%. After seeing this it pushes me to stay on the right path with mediation as this number would reduce the more you mediate and the more present you become. Hopefully this puts it into perspective for you guys too :) Edit: I tried posting sources but it keeps getting taken down. Highly recommend people looking a bit more into the subconscious mind if you haven't as with mediation and a few other practises, you can greatly benefit from understanding it's power. | Need Sources to learn Meditation Posted: 21 Jun 2021 12:36 AM PDT I am new here, I seriously want to practice mediation, but have no clue how to begin. It will be really helpful if someone can share resources to learn meditation practices. Thanks in advance for replies [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 20 Jun 2021 07:20 AM PDT The first step to achieving anything, no matter how stressful it might seem, is to relax. Panic makes a fool of us all. [link] [comments] |
| creating meditiational YouTube videos. Posted: 21 Jun 2021 12:11 AM PDT Hey guys. So recently stared making some meditational vids on YouTube. Was wondering If you guys could provide any feedback? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 20 Jun 2021 04:46 PM PDT I drink my first cup then I meditate. The coffee definitely kicks in while meditating. Is this masking a "real" experience that I would have if were "sober" or decaffeinated? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 20 Jun 2021 10:46 PM PDT I've been thinking about weed and meditation ever since I've begun practicing it. Meditation, not smoking. 😀 On one hand it helped me get into really deep meditative states, on the other these were sometimes unpleasant and or profound, weird. I wondered how does weed work, why does it do that... And I want to share with you what I came up with. I believe weed puts us in a state of higher awareness. That's why it's so easy to dwell on some specific thought, or figure something out. Another thing that supports this theory is the dryness in mouth. I thought it's because of how it's injested, but same thing happens with drops, pills, edibles. Weed makes you more aware of your body, and most of us are dehydrated without even knowing it. You can test it (I no longer smoke) by making sure you're very well hydrated and then smoking a joint. I guarantee the dryness won't be there. Same goes for stretching... Oh man I've done a lot of stretching in my life, but stretching while high is something else. I'm not saying I'm 100% right, it may be just a a part of the truth, however, it resonates well with me. Very curious to hear your thoughts! [link] [comments] |
| New to meditation. Meditated with Prana Mudra for a week, and I feel incredible. Posted: 20 Jun 2021 10:23 PM PDT So, I am quite new to meditation. I've been reading a lot and I also joined a yoga and meditation email course. I feel incredible. So the technique I've been practicing is meditating with prana mudra. There is a process involved, but I haven't gotten hold of it yet completely. But simply channeling awareness through the body with prana mudra has been energising for me. Like, I am always sleepy after lunch, but after meditating with prana mudra in the mornings, my energy levels are pretty stable throughout the day. I also used to sleep late, and waking up groggy. Not any more. Just 5-10 minutes of process right after I wake up, and boom. I feel wide awake. The email program is long, and I'm excited to learn all I can. I am also reading Osho's Orange book of meditation. Going to try the morning laughing meditation. [link] [comments] |
| The ups and downs of my meditation practice Posted: 21 Jun 2021 01:54 AM PDT I've been meditating for a few years now. When I stick to it it's easy to see how calm and relaxed I am in my day to day life. I'm renewing my efforts because I'd been slacking off for a couple of months and I think it's causing me to be impatient with people and situations at work. So, I am resolving to be better at working meditation into my daily routine again. The only downside to meditation I've noticed, if there is one, is that it causes me to have really intense dreams when I sleep at night. Maybe the dreams serve a purpose? At any rate the good far outweighs the bad. I would love to have someone DM me. Maybe we can encourage each other in our meditation practice. [link] [comments] |
| how to watch the breath without controlling it? Posted: 20 Jun 2021 08:24 PM PDT I find that, when I'm paying attention to my breaths, my breathing is deeper than when, say, doing a body scan. It seems like I'm controlling it rather than simply watching it. How can I fix that? [link] [comments] |
| Does 10 minutes daily mindful meditation actually reduce anxiety and boost confidence? Posted: 20 Jun 2021 05:51 AM PDT I struggle with social anxiety and have low confidence so I started doing meditation 10 minutes daily, focusing on my breathing whenever my mind drifts off to another thought. I do it because I want to improve myself socially and mentally but I don't know if it is just placebo because when people say meditation improves social anxiety they say you should also practice social interactions. I don't know if this means the main way to improve is through social interactions and meditation is just a side effect or if it actually helps. Can someone please explain? [link] [comments] |
| Color you see when closing eyes Posted: 20 Jun 2021 02:05 PM PDT Does the color you "see" when meditating means something? I've heard it depends on which chakra needs your attention or focus. [link] [comments] |
| Does anyone actually visualise things when they meditate? Posted: 20 Jun 2021 02:50 PM PDT I have aphantasia, which means the inability to visualise. My heads always blank, I can think, but can't. Its complicated, however, I tried meditation. It relaxed me, but I can't do it for more than 10 minutes at a time. Does anyone else have this problem? Any solutions? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 20 Jun 2021 06:12 PM PDT What can you tell me about shadow work? I know it has to do with meditating not only my mistakes but the things that are within me and might be perceived as negative. As you may see, I'm a bit lost. Any help? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 20 Jun 2021 12:57 PM PDT "One sign of progress in meditation is when you have more questions than answers. Questions like: What am I? Where am I? When am I? What's going to happen next? Instead of trying to answer with your rational thinking mind, look underneath your concepts and language, and into the details of your own experience. Resist the urge to stay on the edge of your mind, satisfied with the same old stories and thoughts. Instead, plunge directly into the mystery of your being. What is experience made of? Where is my mind? What is this? Learn to be a living question, and you'll eventually find the answer you're looking for. " -Sam Harris [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 20 Jun 2021 09:02 PM PDT Hey just started getting into meditation again. Im having a hard time trying to keep my eyes chill. It keeps moving sometimes and wont stay still. And sometimes when i try to make it still i can feel tensions happening around my eyes while I do that. If I stop making it still the tensions go away but my eyes moves again. I was wondering if anyone has a solution to this? And also are you supposed to look at a certain direction? I notice when i look upward i tend to feel a bit sleepy as Im thinking this is what I do to sleep. [link] [comments] |
| Meditation App Recommendations? Posted: 20 Jun 2021 02:46 PM PDT I've practiced meditation on and off for about 8 years. I have a friend going through some tough anxiety issues that put him in very deep, dark depressed states. I've suggested mediation for him, but he's quite ADHD and has trouble getting started and maintaining consistency on his own. He is a techy-sort of guy, so I want to gift him an App to help. Who has experience with Meditation Apps? Which are your favorites and least favorites, and why? Any support helps a lot - thanks! [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 20 Jun 2021 04:49 PM PDT Hello people of Reddit, I have been curious these past few days. The question I have is, is it possible to still your mind while your in the present? I have been doing stillness meditation for the past couple of days, and when I just let my mind sit, I don't stay in the present for long (after 7 hours I randomly realize I have been on auto pilot basically), any tips?
