    What is yoga for?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 06:32 PM PDT

    Besides anything spiritual.

Because I always did yoga to become flexible. But I also kept hearing people say yoga isn't for flexibility (stretching is for that). So what is yoga for? Why do people go to India to be in some yoga camp?

I love riding a longboard, so it's not hard for me to go out and ride every day even if it's hot. I get joy from the first push and pretty much every push thereafter. So longboard "clicks" for me, because of that feeling of rolling, and the cardio.

But for all those people that yoga "clicks" for, what is the click?

My gym offers vinyasa flow (I think this was the one I liked). I want to do it so I get more toned, and a bit more flexible.

Which instruments sound best on Zoom? I'm developing a yoga class with a soundbath element.

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 01:45 PM PDT

This is for any of my yoga teachers or yoga practitioners who have experience with soundbaths or instruments being incorporated in yoga classes via Zoom. Which ones have sounded good? Which ones, not so great?

I'm by no means a musician, so looking for easy to play percussion instruments. I'm aiming to do a candle light yoga class, followed by a soundbath with metal Tibetan singing bowls, chimes, and possibly other percussion instruments that have a nice reverberating tone. I was considering getting a handpan since they sound great in person, but not sure if that's the case over Zoom.

I know there are so many factors that go into sound quality when teaching a remote class, but any insight would be much appreciated!

Studios/teachers posting videos of class on social media

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 08:32 AM PDT

WHY is this a thing? Honestly, this is one of the biggest things keeping me from going back to a studio post covid. My old studio never did this, but they shut down and now all that's left is these "boutique" studios that care more about selling $100 'fits than teaching actual yoga. My favorite yoga teacher moved to one of these studios (and she doesn't post vids etc) but I don't want to give them my money, period. There's one particular studio I follow that posts from basically every. Single. Class.

It's frustrating as hell. I miss a studio environment.

Best way to get flexible faster ?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 03:51 PM PDT

So I'm doing yoga for 6 months now and I love it and definitely making progress. But on my own , to increase my flexibility…. Should I be static stretching only holding poses for a short period of time or should I be sitting there holding poses for longer periods of time like 1-2 minutes ?

Hip stretches similar to eagle pose?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 07:43 AM PDT

Im having this issue where on one side my hip is super flexible and I can wrap around and get onto eagle no problem. But the other side is way stiffer and its very difficult to wrap my foot around and I end up losing my balance while I try to. I'm wondering if there are any accessory stretches similar to eagle I could use to open up the stiff hip so my practice is more symmetrical?

    Short arms?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 07:16 AM PDT

I find low lunge really hard as my hands don't rest on the floor flat. Like at all. Are they short? Or is it an inflexibility issue? I started using down dog and there seems to be endless low lunges.

Wondering if any of you have developed a bad intercostal muscle strain? Leading to severe pains in ribs back and spine with any sort of activity?

How do I train my spine to lie flat on the floor during happy baby?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 07:57 AM PDT

    Pretty new to yoga.

I have major problems with my whole back after breaking my thoracic spine 3 years ago. The bones are fully healed, but I have a long journey ahead of me. My main problem is not rounding through the spine during poses that require elongation.

Happy baby has come up in the last three routines I tried. It feels like it should be a nice, relaxing pose but I can't get into it because it feels impossible for me to keep the bottom of my back on the mat. I come up onto my thoracic spine and kind of balance there. Instructors will say "just enjoy the pose and gently rock from side to side" - not happening!!

I've tried searching for videos on how to improve at this pose, but I can only find tutorials of how to get into it. I know how to get into it - I simply can't!

Can anyone advise what poses I should seek to master to gain the strength and flexibility I need in this area? I just wanna chill in happy baby.

Is 4 lbs on my back too much to skate/scoot with?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 12:05 PM PDT

Both my skateboard and scooter are very low off the ground. Board is 1.5" and scooter 2".

I bought a very thin Manduka pro travel yoga mat that weighs 2 lbs and I held it in my hand while skating and it was not a problem.

I also purchased the manduka carrying strap, not sure how good those are as a backpack cause they look long.

The travel mat was too thin (do you get used to thin?) I used to do yoga straight on wooden floor.

So I want to get the travel lite instead which is 4 lbs.

Is 4 lbs burdensome to skate/scoot with if it's strapped to your back?
