Posted: 05 Jun 2021 07:24 AM PDT Hey everyone! I wonder what motivates you to do yoga... I was practicing every morning for over a year and absolutely loved it! However, recently I started to skip a lot. Even if I do practice it feels like a chore and I just wanna get it done... Yoga has helped me a lot when I was practicing daily so I'd really like to go back to practicing regularly but I don't know how to do it... Anyone had a similar experience? What do you think is a good way to reinspire yourself? [link] [comments] |
Have any of you visited a Yogi's Samadhi before? Posted: 05 Jun 2021 07:17 PM PDT Yesterday I decided to go to a place where a yogi had left his body consciously. They had made a samadhi for him. When I went in the ashram everything felt okay. But as soon as I entered the room where the samadhi was, it felt like the environment was completely different. I was extremely skeptical of all this but when I entered the place it was more unrealistic than even I had ever thought. The air was on fire. My whole body started vibrating immediately and I felt like electricity was going all across my body. I usually sit for mediation and can meditate easily for an hour. But when I sat there, I couldn't sit for more then ten minutes. My body wanted to jump and run out of that place. I felt so threatened there. As if there was a tiger in front of me. I just wanted to run away but at the same time I wanted to be there. Then a yogi took me to a small cubicle like cave where his guru had sat in Nirvikalpa samadhi for one whole year. It was a really small cubicle. Just enough for a person to sit. By that time I was shaking. He asked me to sit in that space. But as soon as I put half my body there I knew I can't bare the energies. I took my body out and just got out of the samadhi space. I couldn't bear it. It was too much for me. Any of you experienced this? [link] [comments] |

When going from plank to warrior-- how to not "swing" your leg forward? Posted: 05 Jun 2021 12:00 PM PDT I find I use momentum to being my leg forward when going from plank to warrior. I'm not sure if it's some of my belly getting in the way, or if it's a lack of mobility. How should this movement feel, controlled or does it use some momentum usually? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Jun 2021 04:12 PM PDT Hi, please feel free to remove if not allowed, but I cannot remember the name of this yoga pose and was hoping someone here could help! You start in hands and knees position, then extend one leg back parallel to the floor, and extend the opposite arm forward with the palm facing inward. Thank you in advance! [link] [comments] |
Lack of instructions in YouTube videos Posted: 05 Jun 2021 05:14 PM PDT For those of you who usually follow YouTube routines, don't you find frustrating when some instructors don't narrate all instructions? I'll explain myself: I've done some routine 3-4 times before; I found it hard but I overall enjoyed it. However, today I got frustrated and left it unfinished because I realized some of the difficulties I've had aren't (only) due to my lack of experience, but because the instructor starts talking about something else and omits some very important transitions. Basically, she transitioned from warrior 2 to triangle, but never mentioned, and since the screen was always on the opposite direction at that moments, I just found the following twists incredibly awkward. What frustrates me is that to me, the main guide is the voice, and the video itself is just help in case I don't understand the pose or know how to do it. Maybe I'm wrong, I've never been on a real class and don't know if they work like this, but don't you find it frustrating too? [link] [comments] |
Can yoga help relieve tension? Posted: 05 Jun 2021 01:08 PM PDT The last three times I have gone for a massage I have been told (By three different therapists) that I am incredibly tense. I am currently finishing up my college program which causes me to be a bit stressed but I didn't think it was too bad. Can anybody recommend some beginner stuff for me to work my way into doing yoga on a regular basis? I would love to relieve some tension and hope this can help. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Jun 2021 04:09 PM PDT I've been doing yoga casually for a couple years and I always felt my mats were too short. Now that I'm doing it more regularly I'd like a nicer mat that fits. I'm 5'10. [link] [comments] |
Are legs in bridge are supposed to be straight? Posted: 05 Jun 2021 10:09 AM PDT I do peloton yoga and have been to yoga studios before, so on an off yogi. The peloton class says you should keep your legs straight in bridge and I started doing that and it makes the pose way harder and I actually feel the muscles in my lower back work, but no longer get the pose. I guess this is correct, but just curious if this is right as I've seen people in yoga classes splay their feet out wide to get the pose. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Yoga, scoliosis and spinal fusion Posted: 05 Jun 2021 06:10 AM PDT Hi guys! I have huge several scoliosis 55 degrees and I practice a lot of yoga, so much as I can due from book Marcia Monroe: Yoga and scoliosis. Right now I have huge pain from middle part of spine and wonder to get surgery for spinal fusion. If I made it, I can do salamba sirsasama for example after recovery or do full bends? What you will do if you will be me. I do a lot siavasana, my dad done for me yoga ladder but I can not wait go to the job. I have 28 years old. My friends have own house, cars and I stuck with scoli. I'm happy that I do uttanasana and keep fingers on the floor it's huge progress for me. Please respond. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Jun 2021 09:57 AM PDT I've started yoga and found I can't do a side plank on my right side. The left side is almost effortless. The right side is so difficult that I think I need to find another exercise to strengthen the muscles I need to side plank. What would you do? [link] [comments] |
Down Dog yoga and HIIT good combination? Posted: 05 Jun 2021 09:46 AM PDT Hey guys, i recently started using the Down Dog Yoga app and discovered the HIIT app. Would it be a good combination to do HIIT workouts 4 times a week and yoga on the days in between? Does anyone know if the HIIT app has exercises for pulling muscles or just pushing muscles? especially looking for back and biceps. My goal is to lose some weight (maybe 5-6kg) and build a little muscle but i dont wanna get jacked. Are the Down Dog apps fit for me or should i rather use something else? I kinda need an app. I like the guided workout where someone tells me what to do and that has a timer build in. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Jun 2021 11:51 AM PDT So, I don't practice yoga but I heard that the horse stance is good to improve leg strength. Also, I practice a martial art where I need to stay in a similar position. I lack of motivation (I always struggle with that) so training is hard for me both phisically and mentally, but I was considering trying some basic yoga positions 5 minutes each day. Do you think that spending 5 minutes or less every day for someone who usually does very little for themself is useless, like "Either you do it seriously or you don't do anything." or it's still better than nothing and can lead to some benefits despite it being very little ? Thangs and have a nice day. [link] [comments] |
Knees getting stuck on mat for frog pose Posted: 05 Jun 2021 07:34 AM PDT Hello, I am attempting to get feeling into frog pose, but my yoga mat is preventing me from being able to slide my knees out with ease. Any recommendations on what I can do? [link] [comments] |

Suggestions for sequences for 30yo total noob with incredibly tight lowerback and hips?? Posted: 05 Jun 2021 02:53 AM PDT I am very new to yoga, so I dont know what variations there are for more advanced moves. I do a lot of powerlifting pre COVID. I have a very, very stiff lower back and hips and need a gentle sequence to help me work into these different poses. I wanted to do this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybgqdffxrQE but moves like at 1.13min I cant even get anywhere near to, and 13.18mins just aint happening sadly! 14.32 surely cannot be for beginners!?! And yeah, I dont know what would be a credible video for beginners with deeply tight hips and lower back tightness. I am 30 male btw. IDeally an no BS, video about how to get mobility and flexibility is all I am looking for. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
Do y'all have goals or intentions in your practice? How do you decide? Posted: 04 Jun 2021 09:07 PM PDT I'm coming back to yoga after a hiatus so my intention right now is just to show up on the mat. I'm curious what kinds of goals / intentions anyone else is setting -- anything from showing up to safely holding a certain pose to signing up for YTT. How did you decide that was what you wanted to work on? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Jun 2021 05:32 AM PDT Hi all! I'm happy I got my first moderna dose yesterday, but it's knocking me out harder than I would have expected. No fever or headache, but my arm is killing me and I'm generally weak and achy. I feel like some gentle movement would help. Can anyone recommend a practice? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Jun 2021 10:08 PM PDT Hey fam. Went to a yoga class this morning and the teacher played their music WAY too loudly. Like. Sometimes it was too loud to hear her. I go to this studio regularly and I don't think I can take the sensory overload of having music that is so overwhelming & makes yr ears ring while trying to peace out. Is it rude if I bring this up? I'm really bummed - the instructor is lovely & the class is a perfect flow for me otherwise :-( [link] [comments] |
