Ashtanga yoga: Nice little modified practice |
Posted: 25 Jul 2021 04:32 PM PDT Hi all! I hope you'll indulge my sharing this. In the span of a week, I rolled my ankle badly and sliced up my hand; the latter required a bunch of stitches. In the past, I've been really negative about injuries and felt awful when I couldn't practice asana as I usually do. But something seems to have shifted since I started a sitting practice and focused more on meditation and pranayama: I feel less negative, and even a little creative! Today, I did a seated version of version suns, in dandasana, and then some seated postures and the final postures (except for utpluthih haha), and it was actually really interesting! I felt like I could experience my breath and my spine in new ways. It'll be nice to heal, of course, but I feel less anxious and like I'm starting to understand the purpose of this practice after, you know, a decade :) Thanks for reading! [link] [comments] |
Suggestions for improving Lotus? Posted: 25 Jul 2021 02:28 AM PDT I'm well into the intermediate series but one thing that I continue to struggle with is Lotus. The strange thing is that I can pretty comfortably put my leg behind my head, if my legs are in a V shape, I can fold all the way down easily with my belly and chest touching the floor, but my lotus is still quite stiff - in particular because of my right side. My left side is quite open. For example, Karandavasana is tricky simply for putting my legs into lotus. Supta Vajrasana takes me a while because I have to take time to orient my legs in to lotus. I've noticed that when in lotus, my right shin seems pretty tight for some reason. But I have no knee pain, only discomfort in the shin area. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice about this pose. I'm working on incorporating exercises before practice to help open up my hips but I'd love to hear some feedback here! [link] [comments] |
