Working From Home - Sitting Down Vs Lying on Your Front?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2021 02:56 AM PDT

    Hi guys,

I'm working from home and the kids are off school too.

I was using my ironing board + a storage box for a standing desk but don't have space with the kids at home.

I'm working from my room, rotating between sitting down and lying on my front.

however, I just read an article, saying that lying on your front is bad for your back and digestion...

Is this true, I'm basically lying in the cobra position for 25 minutes, then I sit down for 25 minutes, I might try and add a Paelo squat too

Any thoughts or tips for working from home and sitting down etc please?

    thank u

    Hamstring Stretch Question

    Posted: 27 Jul 2021 07:13 PM PDT

Whenever I stretch my hamstrings I always feel the "stretch" right under my butt, likely the tendon that attaches the hamstring to the glute. I put 'stretch' in quotes because it doesn't feel like other stretches kind of tightness, it definitely feels like a tendon tightness.

I've been told to put a microbend in my knees to move the stretch down more, but whenever I bend my knees, I don't really feel the stretch anywhere. It takes the feeling out of the tendon, but I still don't feel a hamstring stretch.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how to fix this or what might be happening?

Some kind of impingement due to tightness/inflammation

    Posted: 28 Jul 2021 12:47 AM PDT

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question. I injured something relating to my lower back and hips, some years ago doing deadlifts. I don't know what exactly I injured. I went to see my physician (only after 2 days, I wanted to see if it would reduce on its own) and they said they couldn't do anything, I just needed to rest. It took a long time to slowly get better (months) but it never fully got back to the way it was. This is 3 years or so ago. In the beginning I couldn't straighten my back and I was just constantly hurting in whatever position. It radiated into my lower leg.

What is left now is tightness in my lower back on one side, and tightness on the outside of the hip joint, with a sore spot just underneath the hip bone that you can feel through your skin. When I massage this spot, the pain radiating lower into my leg also reduces. I know part of this is stress related because I can tell when I am more tense in the rest of my body and when I have more stress, this gets worse. So stress is just something to work on. But aside from that I would like to work specifically on this problem. I notice that when I'm walking, it doesn't hurt, but with every step I take, when the leg goes back past neutral, there is a 'snap', like a tendon snapping over the hip bone. I think this is at least part of the problem; I am thinking it might be too tight, get inflamed, and then press on the nerve, which then leads to irritation and discomfort in my leg and lower back.

If you have inflexible hips and need to release tension, this quick and easy yoga practice is for you! Take 10-mins and you'll feel a big difference within the hips. I hope you like it!

    Tendon slipping from squat

    Posted: 27 Jul 2021 06:57 PM PDT

For quite some time now I've noticed a tendon or ligament is "slipping" on the outside of my knee when I go into a deeper squat. If I point my foot outwards more or widen my stance I can sometimes avoid it, but not sure if that will put my knees into vulnerable position. Recently I've started goblet squatting and noticed it is now happening in both knees.

It's not painful, but it's uncomfortable and I suspect it's leading to knee soreness. I think it's a part of my hamstring but I don't feel like I have tight hamstrings.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

Does Square Splits mean knee is tucked under or hips are next to each other? Both??

    Posted: 27 Jul 2021 09:20 AM PDT

Still can't wrap my head around wtf "square splits" are. I've seen some people say that you know your splits are square if you can bend your back leg and it bends straight up, while others say that your front and back hips must be right next to each other (like if you drew a line from one hip to the other it would be perfectly perpendicular to your legs in splits.

I'm not sure because usually when I try to bend my back leg up I can get it up straight but that causes me to go deeper in my splits, thus making my back and front leg hips out of line. Maybe I'm just not flexible enough but the "hold a stick across your hips as you slide into the splits to make sure your hips are in line" just seems impossible to me since my hips always go slightly out of line as I slide down into my splits even if I'm actively pulling them in. I have oversplits on both legs but I still can't seem to be "square"

    Doms

Hey, is it normal to have doms and actually be sore after a good bit of stretching? I stretched my hips yesterday and today they feel a bit tight...

How to address extreme calf tightness

    Posted: 27 Jul 2021 02:54 PM PDT

I've had issues with my left calf as far as I remember. It's always been far tighter than my right. I can do both splits, but dropping down into left splits the only discomfort/resistance I feel is coming from my calf muscle. Doing standing scorpions i again feel resistance in the same muscle. Same goes for forward fold. I can get my palms flat on the ground with no discomfort in any muscle group other than my left calf muscle.

I've tried everything from foam rolling to wall stretches but I can't get the muscle to loosen up. Unfortunately I can't afford PT. I will mention I tore everything in my right ankle as a gymnast in my teens and had extensive rehab for that. I'm not sure if this may be factoring in as well. I'd welcome any suggestions on what I can do to fix this.

Tight pinch at front of ankles when going into squat position

    Posted: 27 Jul 2021 12:58 PM PDT

Hey, I used to have terrible squat mobility so done ankle mobility exercises focused on the back of ankle more so the heel actually. After doing this I now feel a tight pinch at the front of my ankles when doing these stretches which involve the knee going over the toes.

Any stretches to help this. Thanks

How to reduce lower back pain during deadlifts via flexibility exercises?

    Posted: 27 Jul 2021 10:43 AM PDT

Hey guys, I've always had problems with deadlifting that seems to result in pain in my lower back/hip that lasts for days after my workouts, when lifting slightly heavier but still within 70-80% of my peak effort.

My form is perfectly fine, got a few opinions on it live and with recordings, so I figured it was probably due to tight hip flexors and tight hamstrings. I also have very long longs and a very short torso. Is this true, and what can I do to help?

Deadlifts are the only compound that creates issues for me, and it's a shame because I really enjoy it. Any advice is appreciated.

    Age restriction to lotus pose

    Posted: 27 Jul 2021 06:54 AM PDT

Hello, I'm new here. I'm trying to learn lotus pose, but the possibility of losing it to ageing is discouraging for me. Is it true that our flexibility will decrease due to age even if we practice regularly? I'm sorry for the stupid question. Thank you for any answer.
