I've been repressing negative emotions for years by using positive affirmations.

    Posted: 26 Jul 2021 11:54 AM PDT

Recently, I've been engaging in meditation and started to notice countless negative events surface themselves to my subconscious. These events are from many years ago, too. I've started to recognize that my habit of listening to motivational videos, positive subliminal hypnosis, and other activities have in effect caused me to repress my anger and sadness. It's very eye opening to me now and makes me recognize that I need to actually feel and recognize my emotions, no matter how sad/angry they are.

    Update:

I'd even go to the extreme of only listening to the most positive, optimistic music possible. And I'd ignore any music with a sad or contemplative tune. Or, I'd ignore all negative criticism from friends/peers, and only want to seek out positive compliments from them.

Dreaming of a land of forest and waterfalls

    Posted: 26 Jul 2021 07:38 PM PDT

Just laid down and had a roughly 30 minute session. It was meant to be guided but I ended up in my own world. Flying through the clouds in the body of an eagle over what looked like an amazonian rainforest, dive bombing down to the mountains and seeing a huge waterfall feeding into a wide river system. It's amazing what you can achieve and feel when you let go of your intentions and inhibitions. This was my first time in months meditating properly and probably the most I have been able to let go.

Awesome experience. The mind is a powerful entity. Feel free to share your experiences below, always interested to hear others ☺️

    Apple Watch Sleep Tracking

    Posted: 26 Jul 2021 05:53 PM PDT

I just discovered today that at least some of the time the sleep app I use with my Apple Watch (AutoSleep) is identifying me as asleep when I meditate. I suppose it just means that my body is relaxing while I do it, but it really threw me for a bit of a loop. It actually made me wonder if I am going into more of a sleep state without realizing it, which would be the opposite of what I am going for- but that seems unlikely. I know the sensors can only really track breathing, heart rate, stillness, etc. Has anyone else ever experienced this?

And secondary bonus question - do we know any science about whether or not meditation is rejuvenating to the body in the same way that sleep is? My focus in meditation has always been spiritual and also the effects on the mind, but I've never looked into how it impacts the body in this area. What say you?

A meditation to help me get over a horrible acid trip

    Posted: 26 Jul 2021 02:08 AM PDT

I don't really know where else to post. I've called multiple mental health hotlines and no one can really help me. A few nights ago I took acid and I had what I guess can be called a bad trip as I completely humiliated myself in public, got arrested and was screaming saying for them to kill me. I ended up in the hospital and was then let go. I've been meditating for a few years now and I guess I thought I would be in control on such a large dose, I thought it would help me in my path but now I just think I don't really know anything at all. I am trying to meditate but the embarrassment and the memories of all the things I have done just continually come back into my mind and I feel like I am going crazy. I am miserable. Thanks in advance if anyone can offer any type of advice.

Has anybody here used meditation to help rebound from massive failure in life?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2021 05:08 AM PDT

I fucked up a number of times recently (lost a lot of money that I need badly and missed out on important opportunities) due to a tailspin into severe depression. Coming out of this state feels almost post-apocalyptic. Meditation has been helping me stay grounded in all of this, but the fear and doubt can be all-consuming sometimes. I understand that I'm probably wasting my time right now, because only I can find my answers, but has any of you used meditation to help push through difficult circumstances? I suppose hearing other people's stories would help when I'm close to rock bottom again.

“I care about you so I will never judge you”, I say to myself. If I see a person I will view them as someone I care deeply for.

    Posted: 26 Jul 2021 10:46 AM PDT

Let me stop using words like "you" or "we" since I can only speak from my experience. Today's reminder to myself.

If I see a person I will look at them as someone I really care about.

That woman with the slouched shoulders and anxious look in the grocery store, I see her as my mother. Or that person over there who's angry and giving the checkout worker attitude, I look at them as someone I love or myself. "I care about you so I will never judge you", I say to myself.

I don't judge her posture, I don't come up with reasons why her facial expression is the way it is, I don't judge her clothing, what she's buying - none of that. Nobody is better or worse than I am. I don't judge the person who's angry and projecting it onto someone who doesn't deserve it. I recognize what it's like to be human and respond to it. Not with judgement or anger of my own, but with Love. Jesus said some pretty good things about this hahahahaha.

If I am not attuned to reading someone and their intent through body language, tone and words then it shows how ill attuned I am to myself. If I am unable to show compassion and treat people with love, even in my head, then I am ill attuned to myself.

Those people I am judging, I will turn them into someone I deeply care about or, as Ram dass says, turn them into a tree.

"When you go out into the woods, and you look at trees, you see all these different trees. And some of them are bent, and some of them are straight, and some of them are evergreens, and some of them are whatever. And you look at the tree and you allow it. You see why it is the way it is. You sort of understand that it didn't get enough light, and so it turned that way. And you don't get all emotional about it. You just allow it. You appreciate the tree."

See everyone as myself or a tree or someone I love unconditionally - someone I would never judge. Recognition, Acceptance, Compassion, Love.

Now treat yourself as that person you deeply care about.....

Just a reflection on art, meditation and being present.

    Posted: 26 Jul 2021 10:02 PM PDT

So I came across this beautiful photo. And I think it's a neat idea to photograph an empty frame.

But it got me thinking about photography vs painting. And to me, the missing part is the feeling.

A photographer will try to capture "a specific scene" with the right light, sunset, clouds etc. In many ways they're searching for the right moment.

But a painter can capture themselves along with the motive they are painting. So we're not just seeing a beautiful scenery in the painting, we're catching a glimpse into their mind. How they felt, there, at that time. And in light of meditation that makes it quite powerful to me. It's hard to articulate, but I guess it seems to me that painting with this mindset would be a great mindfulness tool and an amazing way of "being with someone".

For those that have been mediating for years; what do you suggest?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2021 04:03 PM PDT

I've been meditating for 2-3 years now. I've tried different methods of mindfulness, breathing, and mantra meditations. The best one for me was the mantra meditation (Ziva specifically). It has helped improve my overall anxiety and confidence. Long story short, I experienced something in real life that scared me away from Ziva. I'm trying to find new methods and I'm wondering what your experiences are with other methods of mindfulness meditations.

    Am I meditating correctly?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2021 11:23 AM PDT

I've been meditating for only a week now so I only meditate a short time, in the beginning I have some thoughts and think about when the timer will stop and I acknowledge these thoughts then try to focus on my breathing. There are brief moments when I just forget about the timer and I think I have no thoughts and it's like I forget I'm even meditating then I snap out of these moments, I don't even remember if I was thinking about anything, time just passes without me noticing. The more I meditate the longer these moments get, so I am able to increase the duration of the meditation each time. Is it supposed to be this way or am I supposed to have thought after thought and keep acknowledging them.

How to use meditation to understand and « control » my emotions

    Posted: 26 Jul 2021 01:46 PM PDT

I don't know if control is the right word but I have a lot of emotions and ups and downs during just one day for very small reasons sometimes. I'm just a very emotional person and I get super excited, happy and enthusiastic as quickly as I can get super upset or sad or anxious. And it can be overwhelming sometimes. I have been wondering how to use meditation to be more aware of those and be in peace with those emotions ?

3, 6 and 9 am and pm meditation

    Posted: 26 Jul 2021 06:29 AM PDT

I don't know exactly how much traction it has gained yet, but there are people out there who are meditating at these times with the intent to heal the world and the people in it. If you are interested in this please join us. It doesn't matter what time zone. I hope this catches on and helps to heal this biosphere. I know many of us are trying to do so physically, maybe we just need some more intent from the collective conscious mind.

(Edit) Slow_and_Steady_3838 made a great suggestion. We should schedule it @ 3, 6 and 9 am and pm UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). The different times allow for personal time constraints because life happens.

Too much focusing on being present

    Posted: 26 Jul 2021 12:24 PM PDT

I'm too much focusing on if I am fully present or not in my work and life situations, when entering a room I'm more self-conscious than never before by trying to be present and not affected by what others think of me. I'm probably doing something false in this regard and wanted to know your advices or insights…
