The Smile-Asana. How deciding to Smile can be a Key to Mindfulness. Posted: 20 Jul 2021 05:22 AM PDT Have you smiled today? Could you smile right now? :) I decided to make this post to encourage all of us, myself included, to smile a bit more.
So smiling is generally the reaction to or the result of something. If I practice meditation and become meditative I eventually start to smile, if I see something beautiful I start to smile. But why don't we just start smiling, for no reason? Could it be useful? I think as well as we can watch our breath, repeat mantras, go for a walk or relax our body, we can practice smiling in order to become meditative. But why does it work? Because the brain does not know the difference between a fake and real smile. From a biological point of view, simply lifting our cheeks triggers our brain to release neurotransmitters like dopamine, serotonin and endorphins, even if our smile is there for "no reason".
So when you are going to work, when you sit down to meditate or when you are meeting strangers in the streets, why don't you smile a bit and see how it feels. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 20 Jul 2021 07:36 PM PDT I went to a class today with a teacher I don't usually go to. It wasn't too terrible, but it seemed like almost every pose was a forward bend of some kind. By the end of class I was pretty dizzy and my lower back was starting to feel it. I skipped the last wide leg forward bends on each side because I just couldn't go upside down again. I'm curious if it's something I need to practice, or if the class was a little wonky. I know there are a ton of benefits to being upside down so maybe I could build stamina? We didn't really do any back bends - the only counter pose I can remember is half way through we did a baby cobra and then a floor bow. The rest of the class was forward bends, warrior series including extra long extended side angle that we turned into revolved half moon on the next flow, standing splits, chair pose twist (from crescent not tadasana), humble warrior, wide leg fold, crescent and crescent twists, runners lunge, seated forward fold. In our downward dogs we also did knee to chest/opposite elbow on most of them which was more back rounding. Just looking for some perspective here. I don't usually have to fully skip poses in class, but I can also do things now I couldn't do even a few months or years ago. EDIT - I think a better way to ask my question is sometimes we do classes focused all on hips and it can be uncomfortable but usually ends up being great for my hips. Is it the same for the lower back and I just need to build stamina, or should I maybe avoid this class in the future? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Jul 2021 06:46 AM PDT Haribol! Were starting a new yoga program in our town and I was wondering if anyone had an idea where we could source inexpensive yoga mats. We have a shoestring budget for this free program were offering, so trying to find the least expensive option for 1-2 dozen mats. Were based in the US. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Jul 2021 12:20 PM PDT Hi, I'm looking to organize a 10-day mediation retreat somewhere in Mexico during November. Looking for a location that can accommodate 15-20 meditators and that can be affordable for all participants... not looking for some lavish place in Tulum but rather a clean and simple place for people to develop their practice. Any suggestions are kindly appreciated. With metta. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Jul 2021 05:09 AM PDT To yoga teachers who teach on Zoom - do each of you pay for a pro subscription plan? Otherwise, how do you get round the 40min limit? I was going to subscribe for a pro account when I thought to myself, do yoga teachers band together with one account since it's likely that it's only being used by each person a few times a week, max? With yoga already being a difficult way to get income, does every teacher pay for their own zoom pro account? [link] [comments] |
Looking for breathing advice, go easy on me :-) Posted: 20 Jul 2021 11:15 AM PDT Hello, I struggle to breathe through my nose. 1. because it's congested(like, always) and 2. because I become light-headed / dizzy. Anyone known of this? Any tips? Thank you all in advance. [link] [comments] |
