I have chronic anxiety and need to meditate Posted: 10 Aug 2021 08:15 PM PDT Has mediation helped with anyone with lifelong anxiety? I have something like ADD so it's hard for me to sit still and relax. [link] [comments]
Watch out for things that strengthen your ego. Posted: 10 Aug 2021 03:02 AM PDT Things like complaining, judging, trying to always be right, being offended and so on, they do us no good. They only strengthen the ego. It's not only positive things/thoughts that strengthen the ego though. You might land a date with someone you find attractive, but if you start thinking and feeling like that means anything about you then that's only strengthening the ego. If being accepted and liked makes you feel good, it's inevitable that rejection will make you feel bad, which means you're not free because how you feel depends on what other people think about you. I'm sure there'll be some resistance the ego when it hears that but like Osho said:

Does anyone here practice prayer along with meditation? Posted: 11 Aug 2021 12:10 AM PDT After a really very awful day of needless anxiousness I sat down, did a mindful meditation and then did a chakra meditation for the first time. Immediately after I prayed. I thanked God for life and was grateful for the experience. Then asked if my loved ones could be given greater wisdom and wished them good health and happiness. I've never really prayed before this, but it felt right and good to have meant those loving thoughts. To reach outward like that after spending 30 minutes focusing inward was an interesting feeling as well. Curious to hear what others have to say about it because it doesn't seem talked about much in these circles. [link] [comments]
Stories of overcoming (or at least managing) anxiety and depression with mindfulness and meditation Posted: 10 Aug 2021 07:46 PM PDT I struggle with anxiety and depression. I've never meditated consistently but have always wanted to. Have any of you overcome or at least learned to manage these types of issues through mindfulness and meditation. Can you tell me about your journey? [link] [comments]

Posted: 10 Aug 2021 09:25 PM PDT Does anyone else experience this? It's difficult to describe, and my only guess is from anxiety, but even when calm it happens. I can't figure out what it is, and I feel like I'm going to mess something up if I allow it to happen. [link] [comments]
Has anyone meditated while grieving? Posted: 10 Aug 2021 07:06 PM PDT Since experiencing a sudden loss I have been afraid to meditate. In my day to day I am feeling nothing but numbness interspersed with abject sadness, and I fear to open the floodgates and be unable to reclose them when needed if I meditate on the emotions. Please share your experiences with meditating while grieving if you are comfortable to do so. [link] [comments]
Need advice on the meditation technique Posted: 10 Aug 2021 10:47 PM PDT Yesterday I read the book Mindfulness in Plain English which teaches the Vipassana meditation technique. I'm a little bit confused about how to do it. In the book, it says to concentrate on the breath and feel the breath inhalation and exhalation on the rim of the nostrils. And it goes further to say observe the breathing pauses after inhalation and exhalation. But in the later chapters, he discusses only the breath feeling on the nostrils. So, is the technique observing: this? Inhalation → Feel on the rim of nostrils → Observe the breathing pause →Exhalation → Feel on the rim of nostrils → Observe the breathing pause. or this? Inhalation → Feel on the rim of nostrils →Exhalation → Feel on the rim of nostrils. I want to start mediation ASAP and I want to do it the right way. Please guide me. [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Aug 2021 02:05 AM PDT I try to meditate when my household is asleep to avoid interruptions though occasionally they occur. When I do get interrupted, I often feel violated, get angry and tense, and I often slip into a full-blown panic attack (my heart is pounding, I feel like I can't breathe properly or calm down). I'm not sure why I have this response - maybe bc I'm in deep focus and vulnerable during the practice. Either way, however, I would like to avoid this reaction and feelings in the future. Any recommondations and/or advice to improve my practice? Any thoughts or ppl with similar experiences? [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Aug 2021 02:02 AM PDT I'm 28 years old, a doctor with good qualifications and doing objectively very good work in rural South Africa... But I'm unsatisfied. I day dream about traveling the world - by motorbike/cycle/hitchhiking - I want to cycle and couch surf around Japan and Europe. Motorcycle up Africa, through the 'stans ans Russia. Live in a Ashram in India and Shaolin temple in China. I want to study abroad. Sail around the world. I want to leave the rat race and I have no intention to settle. I meditate and exercise regularly, do psychoanalytic therapy, journal and practice mindfulness. My understanding of Buddhist teachings make me think that my dissatisfactions lie in my inability to stay in the present as I'm always dreaming of future endeavours. I beat myself up about having literally every possible privilege in life and yet being dissatisfied. I'm not ignorant about how difficult life is for many people. Am I having the typical existential crises? Am I struggling to grow up and take on social responsibility due to my attachment to instant gratification, physical appearance, wealth and freedom; avoiding difficulty and growth? And am I just struggling to accept life as it is? What should I do to answer these questions? There's probably no straight forward answer to my questions but I'd like to hear from anyone who's had similar experiences and have some insight or advice to share! [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Aug 2021 09:23 PM PDT I'm new to meditating- I dabbled in transcendental meditation when I was younger but have become increasingly curious about meditating with sound frequencies lately. Can anyone give me some info on different Hz and what they help? Ive looked this up online but have found the articles I've been reading seem to be all over the place. [link] [comments]
What are good science based resources for meditation? Posted: 11 Aug 2021 12:48 AM PDT I love meditation and have been doing it in an app for a year now, but when I tried to deepen my techniques reading books about it I could just find religious/""quantum physics"" based ones. Does anyone know about some more pratical and scientific resource (like a book, a site or a blog)? [link] [comments]
How to make sure I'm not suppression thoughts? Posted: 10 Aug 2021 12:44 PM PDT I've been meditating for 6 months for 40min a day and it has helped a lot my anxiety, I notice I think way less and the thoughts are very quiet, but I'm not sure if I'm just suppressing them. Is there any ways I can test if I'm suppressing? [link] [comments]
Knowing Meditation and Performing Mediation Is Totally Different Posted: 10 Aug 2021 03:38 AM PDT Somewhere in Silicon Valley, a group of programmers sits quietly in a room, cross-legged and squinted, listening to the sound of their own breathing. Elsewhere, a data entry expert puts on the headphones and takes a deep breath as he listens to the sounds of bells and waterfalls. This is what most people know meditation is but today we will deep dive into different types of meditations... While meditation can be a long activity, it doesn't have to take up hours of your day. Even a ten or fifteen-minute meditation session can provide some relaxation benefits. The following list serves as a reference for different types of meditative practices. Pick one or two that you think you might enjoy and fit them into your schedule. Many people prefer to meditate early in the morning before starting the day to help them start off with a positive attitude. Others choose to meditate right before bed to help ease anxious thoughts and fall asleep peacefully. It's totally upon you how you organize it into your life...
And this list goes on... [link] [comments]
Electric energy surge within body- anyone know? Posted: 10 Aug 2021 08:47 PM PDT Hello! For years I've been getting this cool electric energy that I can bring onto myself or when I'm watching a horrorish movie - a ghost or demon pops up the energy surges. It surges thru my head and my hair feels like it's going fly away. It seems to originate around my heart area. Sometimes the arms and other times behind my neck but wherever it starts, the energy shoots out. Can't see it, just feel it. It's actually a really cool feeling. I've searched the internet for years and have not found anyone w similar feelings. I've talked to "spiritual" guides before and they have never encountered or felt the same. I just sort of started meditation and my first instructor also didnt know what I'm talking about. Not sure if this is the place but if anyone else gets the same sensations or knows about this electric surge of energy - it would be great to know and how to, I guess you can say use it. What else would you like to see in a meditation app? Posted: 11 Aug 2021 12:02 AM PDT Is there anything you'd like to see in a meditation app that you haven't found in existing apps? Or is there anything that current meditation apps do that you're not a fan of? Or something you'd like to see more of? Or are you completely happy with meditation apps as they are? Much love! Posted: 10 Aug 2021 02:37 PM PDT During my last meditation I noticed that I spend a lot of time thinking about feelings. For example if my shoulder are tense, I'll think about why they are tense which in turn makes them even more tense. Same thing in everyday life. I'll notice that I am a bit anxious about something, which makes me anxious about anxiety. How do you stop this overthinking of feelings? [link] [comments]
Is the a meditation method to increase energy level? Posted: 10 Aug 2021 11:47 AM PDT Hi every one, any meditation method for times of feeling lazy and without energy? Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Aug 2021 06:50 PM PDT Hello all, I'm curious about meditation practices that go beyond clearing the mind of random thoughts and finding stillness within (not to disparage the value of these practices... this is what I think of as meditation, personally, and what I am familiar with). I'm talking about more structured practices, maybe, various traditional models, shamanisitic vision questing, kabbalah, tibetan dream yoga, that kind of thing. Abilities such as lucid dreaming and astral projection involve meditative training and I'm just curious if anybody here has experience with realms BEYOND simply calming the mind. Or am I making an error in my thinking here? Thank you! [link] [comments]
Teaching a child about the soul, body and ego Posted: 10 Aug 2021 02:48 PM PDT I really don't know if this question fits here but, at what age would it be appropriate to teach a child about awareness and that he's more than his body. The concept of the soul being who he is and the body is something temporary. And also, that he has a mind that can do tricks on him if he isn't careful about which thoughts he entertains? Is it even something that a kid should know about or would it just complicate everything and make him self conscious? [link] [comments]

Posted: 10 Aug 2021 11:00 AM PDT I have been meditating daily for 350 days. Sounds great but it was and still one of the worst periods of my life (and might still go on for a certain amount of time which I can't guess). My practices were regular but the practice itself wasn't very sincere. 10-20 minute meditations that's all. Although, I've been told not to expect from meditation and I honestly don't but I am seeing fewer "results" precisely because of my insincere meditations. Like working out, meditations should also be executed properly. When I say my ego has taken over or controlling me I mean that I am not speaking what I believe in or would think if i were to observe myself externally. And that makes me very concerned because while I criticize hypocrisy and hypocritical people, I am one too. To give you some context, I had a falling out with my father. And I only saw/see negative in him. I victimize myself. I remind myself of the past instances where he hurt me emotionally. How he is extremely condescending and ignorant, how he would turn any discussion into debate, how he has treated me harshly as a child and how he didn't nurture me that well and blames me for who I am now, when i say "blame" , he does not confront me aggressively, it is passive aggressive taunting. Now arguments FOR him : He is a very hard working person who lost his mother , father , brother within the last 10 years, he does everything for this family. Takes us to trips, tries to keep us in our comfort zone. He bottled up his emotions and doesn't think I am sensible, competent enough to understand his issues. He does everything in his power to support the family and goes through horrible periods of times dealing with my sister who has BPD. He is an exhausted man I have said some horrible things for him. To my mother as well as to my sister. I told them I would never depend on him again once my college tuition is paid. I believe while some of my points and criticism about him are valid, my emotions are being let out in a very unhealthy way. It's toxic and immature. It's not calculative. I am becoming very cynical and I am valuing my own life much lesser. How do I overcome this. If you could help me learn pipe down my ego the moment I notice it with steps it would be great.
