    Yin Yoga

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 12:26 PM PDT

I went on my first Yoga Day Retreat yesterday and I loved it!!! Our instructor chose to introduce us to Yin Yoga which is something I had never tried before. It felt like I was napping! Does anyone else have a preference for Yin? It almost felt lazy but I felt better afterwards.

    Best app recommendation

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 10:00 AM PDT

Hello everyone! I'm a 26 y/o male who is desperate of a good yoga app/programming. I'm in the army and my physical demands include a lot of running, rucking (hiking with heavy weight), and calisthenics. I've used the app "Romwod" in the past and I've been doing yoga off and on for roughly 2 years. Thank you for any recommendations!

    Just starting out

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 12:47 PM PDT

Wow. I see the posts here and pics and it feels both inspiring and like I'm a slug. My knee flexibility sucks and I cannot sit on my shins. I've been doing Underbelly Yoga and love Jessamyn and her approach to encouraging you for showing up and that she gives you modifications. I know I'm building some strength (background I've had multiple abdominal surgeries so gaining core strength is a big win) Thanks for being such a positive community.

Chakrasana & Urdhva Dhanurasana? Are they synonymous? Are they both backbend, upward facing bow?

    Mat slipping, what material helps?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 12:30 PM PDT

Any advice on how to break it a new manduka mat? I tried the salt thing but it’s still so slippery.

How long does it generally take for the rubber smell to dissipate from Jade Yoga mats?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 01:53 PM PDT

And is there any way to speed this up? I live in an apartment and the scent is kind of annoying even after 3 days. I can't imagine putting my face anywhere near it right now, and it's frustrating because the mat seems awesome otherwise :(

What if my muscles are trembling?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 04:58 AM PDT

Hey everyone! After some warrior poses (that are requiring me some muscles strength and effort) sometimes it happens that, in a releasing pose (like Matsyasana or even Shavasana), my muscles are trembling so bad. What could the cause be? Do I have to slow down a little? Something to bring my attention to? Thanks for your kind answers!

Have you ever experienced swooning during pranayama?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 02:10 PM PDT

Every now and then not often I will get such a rush of prana that if I'm standing I sit fast or if I'm sitting i will jerk myself a little it feels good anyway. I was just curious if you have experienced this? I wouldnt really call it fainting or like I lost lost consciousness or anything

I start giggling uncontrollably when doing certain stretches

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 08:03 AM PDT

Especially when sitting down and touching my toes and bending my head forward, it feels really hard to hold this position, when I try to hold it I start feeling super giddy and start laughing out loud and giggling to myself like a maniac.

It's a very pleasant feeling though, I enjoy it and it boosts my mood afterwards. I'm just wondering if anyone else experiences this, or knows if there is possibly a reason this happens to me.

It also happens when I'm doing another practice called "Qi Gong"

Anyone recommend any ashrams for a long term stay?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 12:04 AM PDT

    Hello all

I know the timing isn't great with the pandemic but I am looking for a residential stay at an ashram.

I have been practicing meditation and yin and hatha yoga for about 6 years now and believe this is the right path to bringing me calm and peace after quite a traumatic life.

I am open to hearing about all yogic traditions. Thank you 🙏

What yoga mat materials are toxic? and Is this yoga mat toxic?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 07:12 AM PDT

So I am looking to buy a yoga mat, however, I am concerned about the materials.

I heard PVC is toxic, but so far I dont know. So what materials should I avoid and which ones should I look for?

I found one in Mango that interested me.

    it is this one: https://shop.mango.com/us/women/more-accessories-sports-accessories/yoga-mat-6mm_17040234.html

apparently the material it is made of is called: thermoplastic

is this safer or worse than PVC? and should I avoid this material in the first place?

I honestly don't know enough about yoga mat materials, all the info confuses me so far.

Is the Siddhi online course legitimate?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 12:07 AM PDT

There is a Yoga Alliance certified 200 hour online course being offered for $400 through Siddhi Yoga (https://siddhiyoga.online/courses/ryt-200-hours-yoga-teacher-training-certification?affiliate=KsFE9N). It seems legitimate, and I want to start teaching courses in my area. I know it's not ideal, but I am on a really really tight budget and it seems like this could be a good intro to teaching?

Can anyone recommend me a cloth yoga mat lightweight that I could use to do yoga on the beach? Thank you.
