My 2001 Space Odyssey meditation technique Posted: 21 Mar 2020 07:00 AM PDT Sometimes I look at my brain like a high tech ship/ computer that is on high alert. The crew needs to get to the control room for repairs but everything is on lockdown. So as I meditate I try to imagine the more I relax the more of these blast doors open and let the repair crew deeper and deeper into my mind. Swear it works like a charm for me. I tend to have lots of racing thoughts so this gives me just enough to preoccupy the "monkey mind". Sometimes I can actually feel parts of my brain seem to loosen and decompress, sorta like when your sinuses clear. [link] [comments]
Now, meditation is more important than ever before Posted: 21 Mar 2020 08:06 PM PDT I think this pandemic is creating a secondary public health emergency: one of paranoia and negativity. This new time is a true test of our internal strength, as we must remain unattached to all the thoughts and information surrounding COVID-19. Additionally, social confinement could cause further mental health struggles. We mustn't allow our homes to become cesspools of negativity, but standpoints for hope. Just today I recorded my thoughts on the matter. [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 Mar 2020 09:12 AM PDT I have been practicing meditation for about an hour a day for 2 years now, and yesterday I got to a new stage I think. My mind pretty much went silent for a good 15-20 minutes toward the end. It was very interesting because I was aware of everything I was seeing, feeling and hearing, but there were no verbal thoughts in my mind and no music even. I was still thinking, but it was like thinking in shorthand or something. I mean I was aware of the thoughts I was having, but my internal dialog was not expressing them inside my head, which made me realize my thoughts happen before the dialog and the dialog is not really necessary. You can just be aware of your thoughts without expressing them. I am normally a very verbal thinker and most of the time my thoughts are like talking to someone in my head, so this was different. I felt like I was aware of every nerve in my body at one time and it produced an all over buzzing sensation kind of like when your hand goes to sleep or you drink alcohol and you face goes numb. Rather than being aware of one part of my body at a time it was like my consciousness filled my body. I have to wonder if it was what it is like to be an infant. Aware of all these new sensations but with no verbal thoughts or analytical thoughts to express what you are experiencing. It was very relaxing and peaceful. [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 Mar 2020 11:01 PM PDT Hi guys, I've been wanting to start mediation for a long time - now that I have the time I don't know where to start, how do you find the right one and where? Any suggestions would be highly appreciated! 🙏 [link] [comments]

| Gong & Bowl Sound Bath recorded at the Integratron Posted: 21 Mar 2020 10:07 AM PDT My mother-in-law is an amazing soundscaper (?!) and, a few years back, she rented out the Integration and recorded one of her gong & bowl performances. Below is a youtube link to 2 tracks, and a 7-day wetransfer link to download .wav files of all 7 recorded tracks. https://www.youtube.com/user/yogashanan1/videos Great for listening, meditation, granular synthesis, and whatever else you can imagine. Obviously a challenge to record sounds like this in a space like this, but I think the recordings capture some of the experience. Also, if you happen to use any of these recordings in an original piece of art of any form, please share either publicly or privately! She'd love to hear. | Is is worth or possible to meditate if you hear a lot of voices? Posted: 21 Mar 2020 03:50 PM PDT So I hear almost non-stop talking inside my head if I am not thinking something or reading for example. Can I still meditate and do you have any ideas how to do it? | Enlightenment through Ice cream ? Posted: 21 Mar 2020 09:45 AM PDT My son is having experience similar to what I hear from those who claim to have enlightenment experience Only difference is My son is having enlightening experience from ice cream, whenever I bring him his favorite ice cream, he experiences enlightenment While eating ice cream, he becomes very peaceful, quiet, relaxed full of love, doesn't create any trouble He told me that ice cream makes him feel very happy and blissful and feels very loving around all his surroundings, Usually he is not like that, he is loud and creates lot of trouble [link] [comments] |

Posted: 22 Mar 2020 12:43 AM PDT The following came up to me while meditating today morning: I was under this unconscious assumption that as a person one has to "choose" a profession to follow and only "one" profession so that you give yourself all to it to the point that you attain mastery over it. But the feeling that there are truly only two professions to ever exist : one of a teacher and other a student (or a learner). And as the old adage goes "a teacher was once a student" fits perfectly here. A teacher puts all his energy as a learner to attain all the knowledge, put it to rigorous tests through trial and error and passes on the skills relevant for the contemporary age. The field of the knowledge or skill isn't at all relevant here (as I once thought) because to have a "true mastery" over one particular domain one has to have a basic idea about every other domain of knowledge there is . If you truly think it to exhaustion you will realize this that regardless of whatever domain of knowledge you have, when it comes to who you truly are , you can be one of the two things: you're either sharing your knowledge(a teacher) or you're on the other side, absorbing it(as a student). With this fundamental idea, you can free yourself from having to choose or fit yourself into any one field and begin to explore all possibilities, then you will realize the concept of "everything being connected" in a subtler way. Views and different perspectives on this are appreciated. peace 🌈 [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 Mar 2020 08:53 PM PDT I am doing guided meditation for a while now. Its been roughly about 2 3 months but not so consistent. I usually focus on my breathing and do body scan. Can anyone suggest a good book for meditation? [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 Mar 2020 11:29 AM PDT When I was tryna meditate, I asked my brain to send me an interesting realisation/thought while I focused on my breath. So I meditated on my breath and waited for my brain to send me something but not a single thought came to my head. Towards the end of the session was when I realised that when you ask your brain to send you a thought and wait for it to come to you, your head empties out and you have absolutely no thoughts and focus on your breath better. And i realised that was the realisation I had asked for!!! This prolly sounds conflicting in itself lol and I don't know if this is stupid but I thought it was interesting lol. [link] [comments]
Focusing on breathing makes breathing uncomfortable Posted: 21 Mar 2020 02:02 PM PDT Hello! Every book I've read on meditation offers some different strategies but always recommends focusing first and foremost on the breath as a starting point. I try to do this but I find it incredibly uncomfortable. Once I focus on my breath I feel as though I don't know how fast to do it anymore and then wonder if I'm breathing too slow or deep or shallow or fast and then start compensating one way or another. Then I have to yawn or take a deep gasping breath because I'm not sure I'm getting enough oxygen anymore. (Or too much?) These are not really active thoughts and I don't get caught up in them, but they're here and there and the bottom line is: if I focus on my breathing I eventually find the breathing itself physically uncomfortable. Does anyone else experience this and how did you work with it? I really wanna be a meditator :( [link] [comments]
About seeing something after meditation. Posted: 21 Mar 2020 07:56 PM PDT So I've made a great meditation schedule by now, consisting of two times in a day for ten minutes straight. While I DO feel amazing after each session as in, feeling lighter, happier, more relaxed and just overall great, I don't SEE anything after. [link] [comments]
Being bad at something and being ok with it Posted: 21 Mar 2020 02:51 PM PDT I always used to hate myself for being bad at "everything". Hell, as of right now, my grades are in a dumpster fire. I can't wait for my parents to yell at me and tell me how it's easy and that I shouldn't be stressed out when they themselves haven't graduated from college. At this point I would consider suicide, as I have done so in the past during high school , but this time is different. Through meditation I realized that hating myself was not making me get better, but loving myself and realizing that it's ok to fail has helped. I'm not saying I've given up, but I've accepted that through failure we grow from our mistakes. As for my parents and their way of raising me, I'm ok with it. Yes, take away all electronics, I'll just go for walks, meditate, and read to pass the time. I see their punishment less as a punishment and more as a challenge. A part of me can't wait for it! As for college, I will continue pursuing it. I've gotten better with assignments and have learned to not hate them but to accept them as a challenge instead. If only I could tell my parents so they wouldn't feel the need to yell at me. It's a bit of a paradox. I tell them how I'm doing, they're going to yell at me. I don't tell them, they'll find out, and then they're going to yell at me. Oh well, I gotta learn to accept it and grow on my own terms. [link] [comments]

Has anyone had any experiences forcefully snapping out of meditation? Posted: 21 Mar 2020 11:27 AM PDT Being suspended from my job because of the corona virus I've been doing multiple meditation sittings a day (at least 2 usually 3-4), all lasting at least 30 minutes. During my second sitting, (I couldn't tell you how much time had passed as I don't know) I had been in a deeper state for not very long and it felt like I was forcefully pushed forward. Similar to the feeling of falling in a dream and snapping awake once you get close to the ground. I've never experienced this before during a sitting, and I was maintaining awareness throughout all of it, so it wasn't like I was falling asleep. Anyone have similar experiences or can maybe explain why this happened? [link] [comments]

Is it still meditation if you’re doing it for a reward? Posted: 21 Mar 2020 12:29 PM PDT I've been doing daily breath meditation for about 9 days now, and when I'm done I get to fill in a box on a chart I made. I greatly enjoy filling in this box. While meditating, sometimes my mind wanders to how nice it will be to fill in the box for today, and I have to refocus on the breath as normal. But like, if I'm doing it for a reward, and the reward is in my mind even while I'm meditating ... Is this likely to interfere with the benefits of meditation? [link] [comments]
“Enlightenment” through meditation vs. “Enlightenment” through psychedelics Posted: 21 Mar 2020 05:38 AM PDT Hello! (Preface: I have little to no experience with meditation) I've recently gained more interest in meditation thanks to LSD, but I was wondering how similar or different the experiences are. Last week I practiced some holographic breathing and realised just how much your consciousness can shift without taking any drugs. Then, when reading about "enlightenment experiences", of which I was always very sceptical before I ever took any consciousness altering drugs, I realised that some of the things described were really rather similar to being on LSD. Can any experienced meditators that have ever taken psychedelics share their thoughts ? [link] [comments]
