Breath hold during savasana? Please give me your opinion!

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 05:59 PM PDT

I just did my first non-guided yoga practice, and it was crazy. Without a guide, I entered a state of no-thought, and some how my body just knew how to flow. At the end, I was in savasana, and when I reached a very deep state of relaxation, I felt the urge to stop breathing. I am a big advocate of the Wim Hof Method (intense breathing technique with a series of deep breaths followed by retention), which is probably why I had this urge. Anyways, on my next exhale, I didn't breathe in. The relaxation deepened very intensely, and I was even able to look at the urge to breathe with equanimity and nonreactivity. Once I REALLY needed to breathe(although am still tranquil), I took a DEEP breath in and then held it at the top. After 20(or however many you want) seconds of this, when I exhaled, I felt something I want you guys to feel as well.

This was heavily inspired by the Wim Hof Method(WHM). I will highlight the differences between what I did and what the WHM is for those interested.

In the WHM, the breath retention only happens after 30 to 40 insanely deep breaths from ones stomach --> chest --> head and then released effortlessly on the exhale. This "charges" or oxygenizes your cells so you can hold your breath for a long time.

I felt as if the long, deep breaths and increased heart rate from my flow "charged" me to an extent, and because i am familiar with this feeling from doing the breathing techniques, once my body recognized it, it kind of "knew what to do."

I would really recommend trying the WHM (Look up "Wim Hof Method" on youtube to learn, but since it is pretty intense a lot of people don't ever get around to trying it. If you are curious, I feel as if integrating it with your yoga practice as I mentioned would be a great way to "dip your toes in the pool" of what could be felt. Also, it just feels good! Namaste

I hyper mobility syndrome. I took a class yoga. I ended up dislocating my shoulder. Is there any extremely light poses that still release tension safely.

Core Power Yoga letting everyone go!

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 06:55 AM PDT

Instructors and managers are being let go today. They said they will continue to pay their C-Suite personnel and their higher level people but will let go the individual studio managers and instructors. Another company that is worried about profits over people. They have 250 studies across the county and a few international locations.

Yoga app that just has a whole bunch of poses?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 06:16 PM PDT

Im looking for an app thats not just a set workout because i like to be able to hold the poses at my own pace and a lot of the time the video goes a bit too fast for me, is there an app that just has a bunch of poses on it so i can spend as much time as i want on each pose without having to pause the video? If it also alows me to customize my own workouts with the poses that would be amazing but i havent had much luck finding this (if anyone uses the anytime fitness app im basically looking for something like that but with yoga poses instead of exercises)

    Thanks so much <3

Today marks Day 3 of the #30DayDBTCChallenge. Details of the challenge here.

Shoutout to u/MsMimosa420, u/engineer_ellena, u/electric_real, u/claptrapglitter + husband, u/GarbagePailKid90, u/Caliyogagrl, u/ChloeMarie159 and my partner for completing both Day 1 and Day 2 of the challenge!

    On Gratitude:

With the quarantine, it's added a layer of stress that it's easy to get caught up in fear and negativity, which can spill over to other parts of our lives. I know it's certainly colored my perception.

So for today, other than sharing what you did, please take a moment and reflect on what are you grateful for today. If you feel comfortable sharing, please feel free to do so.

List of videos used by challenge members on Day 2:

    Have a lovely Friday!

    Yoga for Back Pain

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 09:38 AM PDT

Hello! This is my first post here, so I guess I should first do a little introduction of what my situation is. I did yoga for around a month, around 7 months ago, so I am still a beginner. I do have pretty good physical condition, but around 8 weeks ago while skateboarding I busted my back, pretty sure it is a herniated lumbar disc as the pain goes down my buttcheek and my left leg.

I have gotten back into yoga this past 2 weeks, and it has helped a lot. The pain has obviously not gone away (nor do I expect it to, it is my understanding that these things take from 6 months to a year), but it has helped with flexibility and getting moving (specially with the quarantine, can't go for a walk!). Anyway, I find myself with the problem that most videos that address back pain are pretty gentle and don't really do a workout, more of a stretch, but I do also want to work on some strengthening, but then the videos I find that are more intense have movements that at this moment of acute pain I simply cannot do, such as bending over your back or some twists, or requiring to have my legs completely straight. I also feel like I don't know enough yoga to modify my own practice and work around this osbtacles.

What would be the suggestions from this community to me? 27 year old guy by the way!

I am on lockdown, as many others too and yoga brings a feeling of normalcy and peace in these trying times.

When doing the torso twist exercises, which direction affects the spleen and which affects the liver?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 06:08 AM PDT

I am trying to understand which direction is influencing which organs. If I turn my upper body to the right that affects spleen or liver? And if I turn my upper body to the left that affects spleen or liver? Thanks for any insights :)
