    Ashtanga yoga: Janushirasana C tips.

    Janushirasana C tips.

Hi everyone! I'm currently a beginner who was previously going to classes, but am currently continuing my practice at home.

I understand that Janushirasana is about progressive external rotation of the bent leg. Janu A and B seem okay, but I'm having trouble getting into the correct position safely in Janu C.

I've watched a few videos on YT, but none really show the in between phases before you develop the flexibility to attain the full expression with your foot perpendicular to the mat.

As intermediate steps to the end position, is it okay to have your foot 45 degrees to the mat with your 4th and 5th toes on the mat? Or should I come up onto my foot so all 5 toes are on the mat and slowly work towards getting my butt on the mat as my hip flexibility improves?

I hope that was a clear enough description. Thanks for your time! :)

Practice or not when not motivated?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 11:58 PM PDT

Doing self-Practice at home 6 days a week, but every couple of weeks there are some mornings where I really don't want to stand up from my bed. I have mood swings so it's mostly due to mindset and motivation so I get on my mat anyway but my practice is forced and feel like can't concentrate but just waiting to arrive at the last posture.

Do you suggest to not practice on those days or do something else?

    Thanks!!!

Lots of questions about personal practice!

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 06:00 AM PDT

Hiya! I have a few questions about my practice! Hoping you can help me out/see if anyone else has experienced these things. For context I'm 22f, have been practicing yoga for over 3 years, ashtanga for about 3 but going weekly to led classes until recently, and am slightly hypermobile with some gymnastics experience.

    1. I tend to practice in the morning within an hour of waking up, and while I used to be a night owl now I wake up really early without setting an alarm. I find this odd but was curious if this could be due to my ashtanga practice.

    2. I've been practicing the primary series daily since the beginning of February and have pretty much learned it now, which is making me want to start the intermediate series. My teacher has said I should learn to drop back and stand up from urdhca dhanurasana before I start so I plan to focus on that and my other problem poses in the primary series first. However I was wondering if anyone has any advice and resources for learning drop backs at home, and opinions on integrating second series poses before I've learned this. Ive done led classes which included second series postures which makes me want to practice them more, but recognise that it's probably a good idea to be patient.

    3. I have a mild hamstring strain in my right hamstring which feels like an intense stretch near the sitting bone. I think it was from a forward folding posture and I got it checked before the quarantine by a physio, they said it was mild and that I should continue my practice but be careful which I am (especially in kurmasana and janu sirusana b). Was wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this, and any recommendations for helping the healing, it doesn't seem to be improving or getting worse and isn't painful, but I'm being cautious.

Thanks so much hope you can help me out with this! Happy practicing 💕
