Oversplits! I decided to give it a go and I’m quite happy with the results I don’t like how the pillows squish but I don’t know what else to use

Hey I have a few questions (trying to learn to do splits)

    Posted: 18 Apr 2020 09:16 PM PDT

I'm very stiff and I haven't been stretching for years. I have never been able to do splits or anything like that. I decided to start stretching and I have a few questions:

    1. Is it okay if I stretch everyday for an hour and hold each stretch for 45 seconds. Is it too much?

    2. My legs are sore after stretching and I'm even more stiff the next day. Is it okay?

I just feel like I won't see any improvement if I don't stretch long enough. Also, people have told me "No pain no gain" so is it okay if stretching hurts?

Also, do you have any tips for learning to do the splits?

Naming this shape “Bow and Arrow” , suggestion? Super splitty, oversplit.

Hello Flexible People! Not sure what your progress is like, but here is me doing the exact routine as I did 1 year ago to see the difference after working HARD for 1 year. Hope you enjoy watching it!

Where am I supposed to feel the stretch during hip flexor stretches?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2020 12:39 PM PDT

So, I think I have a very minor anterior pelvic tilt and I want to correct it before it gets worse and I have been practising different hip flexor stretches. I have done the lunge stretch, couch stretch, and even the lying down variation of the couch stretch where i pull my knee back with my hands. Every single time I feel a big stretch in my quads and upper quads but not near my pelvis. I've watched a dozen tutorials, I'm tucking my pelvis in, squeezing my glutes and engaging core so I don't think my form is off. Is this the correct place to feel the stretch or am I supposed to feel it higher up? Or is there a possibility that my hip flexors are not tight so I am not feeling a stretch? Like I said, I have a minor case of APT or maybe none at all and I'm just being super critical of my posture.

Evidence for reset of stretch point after sleep or 48 hours?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2020 06:14 PM PDT

Immediately following a stretching session you can reach nearly that same max range of motion, and in the hours (days? weeks?) following you can reach a slightly increased range of motion before your body returns to baseline.

I have heard a couple assertions about these time frames such as that the first reset happens when you sleep and that the return to baseline happens after 48 hours.

I looked today and could not find any evidence for those statements. Is anyone aware of studies done on this? I could imagine a competing point of view where the reduction in increased flexibility is more linear or an exponential decay.

This is not purely hypothetical, since we would presumably need to stretch again before complete return to normal in order to gain long term progress.

    Stretching with bad knee?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2020 04:29 PM PDT

I have, what is called (according to the internet) runner's knee ? Basically my knee is messed up and it's not something a doctor can fix. It has been hurting for about a week now. Meanwhile I've also been stretching for my splits and working out. Should I stop doing this until my knee stops hurting or should will the knee pain just go away on it's own? (Sorry if this is a stupid question I'm not very smart when it comes to this stuff)

    Seated Stretching Routine

    Coming back from an injury

    Posted: 18 Apr 2020 03:09 PM PDT

Hey guys, So a little backstory. A few years ago I injured myself and the doctors can't find out what's wrong with my knee. I went through PT a few times and it didn't help. Recently, I have been stretching and it's gotten a lot better but it seems like I hit a plateau. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for lower body stretches that focus on hip flexors, quads, and hamstrings.

Middle split and pike are okay, but can't pancake--is it my hamstrings or hips?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2020 04:54 AM PDT

Self explanatory title. I know that my hamstrings are tight and play a big role, but then why is it that I can pike and am nearly able to touch my chest to my knees? Then for middle splits I'm not 100% there but I'm able to slide from pike into a close-enough middle split without issue, but I absolutely cannot push my chest forward at all, my back has to stay straight. I'm not sure how to tell if my hips are tight as well. Any tips? Thanks! :)

    Online Program

    Posted: 18 Apr 2020 06:31 AM PDT

    Hi All,

I've always had tight muscles and I'm really inflexible. Whilst in isolation I've been ramping up the exercise and weight training which is exasperating my muscle tightness.

Is there a online program any of you would recommend? I came across Romwod, which seems like a rebranded Yoga with a crossfit sort of feel, but wondered if there's any better ones?

    TIA

Why do I have pain in the right mid back after stretching it?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2020 05:44 AM PDT

I've been stretching for more than 8 years and I'm pretty flexible. But I have always had pain in the right mid-back and sometimes in the centre of the lower back, after stretching the back—mostly in a back bend. I went through different types of treatments such as chiropractic and physiotherapy. I even had an x-ray of my spine and the report turned out to be normal. In spite of all the treatments, none of them has fixed my issues, especially the pain in the right mid-back.

If I stop stretching, the pain goes away after a few days, and if I resume the stretching, two days later I start to have the pain.

As for the lower back pain, I found out that I had been overutilizing my lower back muscles in the past. Now I am learning how to use the other part of my back muscles in a back bend and the pain seems to be subsiding. However, I still can't find a way to fix the right mid-back pain.

Do you guys have any idea why I have this pain, and what are the other treatment options I have to ease the pain?
