Yoga: [COMP] I’ve only attempted crow few times in the past so I surprised myself when I could hold it even for a few seconds! I learned to embrace faith instead of fear. Any feedback on how to improve my form is welcome! Also, I don’t often have my dog with me during practice, but he’s such a good boy.

    Is downward dog necessary?

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 05:13 PM PDT

I've been doing yoga off and on for a while now through Yoga with Adriene. I always end up quitting because work has damaged my hands and wrists so much that any pose where i have to be on my hands can be difficult.

Downward dog, in particular, is the worst and i cannot hold it without my hands and wrists being in tons of pain.

The trouble i have, is most of her videos involve this pose. It seems like an essential part of yoga that I'll never be able to do.

    Ribs hurt after headstand?

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 01:51 PM PDT

I have set myself the challenge of doing a headstand while under lockdown. I'm a pretty experienced yoga practitioner but have always had terrible balance while upright, and the headstand is proving really challenging. My legs just wave all over the place and I can only stay up by using the wall.

Anyway, after I come out of headstand I sometimes feel a soreness in my ribs. I take care to align myself correctly and take as much weight as I can on my arms. Any idea what could be causing this?

    Rotator cuff injury

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 05:18 PM PDT

    Hi all

Due to the current quarantine lifestyle I've tried to incorporate some yoga into my life. Unfortunately this has not gone well. I did a few sessions with no issues but than I did one last Friday and woke up with really bad pain in the front of my left shoulder. I didn't think this was correlated and thought it might have been caused by bad sleeping posture. It went away after the weekend. I did yoga again and planks the following Thursday and woke up to even worse pain in the shoulder Friday morning. The pain did not alleviate like before and it is now Sunday and I'm having trouble lifting my arm and have a continuous dull pain.

Is this a common injury from yoga? I'm not sure if I should go to the doctor because a rotator cuff tear seems ridiculous and extreme from yoga but I don't know what else it could be?

    Thanks!

Are the expensive yoga mats worth it?

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 04:50 PM PDT

Wanting to get some stretching/yoga into my morning routine and looking into yoga mats. The price range is crazy anywhere from like $15-$150. If there's enough of a difference to be worth it the cost isn't and issue and I'll gladly get the higher end ones but still no need to waste $100 if they're more or less the same.

Thoughts? Are the higher end ones really worth it?

    Triangle pose is a nightmare!

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 04:06 PM PDT

Whenever I go in to triangle (tilted to the right with right hand down and left hand up) I always experience a "twinge" or a sharp pain in my left hand side lower back. It takes a few minutes to loosen up again.

Any suggestions or any alternatives to triangle I could try? I'm super flexible so I find myself falling in to the poses sometimes but the pain even sometimes happens when I use a block/only reach down to my shin. Thanks so much ❤️

    Piriformis syndrome,bad knee

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 12:02 PM PDT

What poses and/or recommendations do you have to stretch the piriformis (inflamed butt muscle that can contribute to sciatica) while nursing an injured knee? My right hip is in a bad way but my right knee does not tolerate much. Figure four, if deep enough to stretch my piriformis, hurts my knee. Pigeon is laughable. Sometimes sitting in child's pose is enough to stretch the hip but other times it is not deep enough.

Help! Thank you so much for your kindness. I am not trying to complain about my injury, but attempting to be clear in my request.

    Shirt fit

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 03:45 PM PDT

I feel like since I began practicing, I've grown slightly around my chest and shoulders, either through the stretching, the increased attention to my posture, or some combination of both.

I've noticed that a lot of shirts that I seem to recall fitting me previously are now just tight or awkward in the shoulders, to the point where it causes discomfort.

Does anyone else have experience similar to this? Are there any shirts you recommend if so? Or any stretches/positions to maybe relieve upper shoulder/back tension?

I would appreciate any feedback or discussion. Thanks for listening!

I couldn't find an old post on this and would love some enlightenment. After reading a lot of reviews and considering multiple brands, I can not decide on a good brand of cork mat. Help me, reddit. Do you like your cork mat? What brand did you buy, and why?

    Knee discomfort during savasana

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 03:34 PM PDT

Hi all, I've been trying to figure out the source of my knee discomfort or how to rectify it during savasana pose. When lying down my two feet rotate outwardly differently; my left leg has no discomfort in the knee and the foot is mostly pointed up while my right foot rotates roughly 45 degrees and my right knee feels like there's a strain on it. I don't have the strongest of knees but I've been doing exercises to strengthen them. sometimes I put a block against my right foot so that it doesn't rotate as much irritate my knee. Any thoughts on why this might be and what I should continue to work on? Anyone experience something like this? Thank you!

    Newbie questions

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 07:14 AM PDT

Hi! I'm trying to start practicing yoga and I have a few questions. I've been following this sub for a while and I've only done a couple of follow along videos from youtube.

    1. One of my fitness goals is to increace my flexibility and mobility but I'm also interested in the other aspecta of yoga therefore I've decided to go with yoga and not with specific flexibility and mobility training. So how effective is yoga for that? For example will I ever be able to achieve splits?
    2. What do yogis do when they are not in a class and just doing their on practice? Do you do asthanga yoga or just go with the flow and do what you feel like?

    Thanks

    200hr RYT

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 02:24 PM PDT

Hi all! I just recently began training for my 200hr certification. It's a crazy weird time with the pandemic so I was just wanting to read up on others opinions/experience with their first YTT. Does it take a lot of time for connections to be made? Are you kind of on your own til the next training session? I just want to make sure I'm not expecting too much from the program. I know times are crazy stressful so I know that is a major factor in any weirdness right now

    Thanks :)

    You have inspired me

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 05:42 AM PDT

As a younger me, I did yoga classes with my gym. Never really LOVED it. Just did it as it as a easy class. After a sever injury, (fall) I was set back with a bust shoulder and knee.

Today I joined Yoga Int. And did an online class, then a second and a third. I was really impressed by how fantastic I feel and how little effort it took.

Ok, there are some poses I cannot do at this point correctly however I can feel where my body is stiff and tight and hopefully in a month or so it should be better.

💙❤Thanks to all of you for posting pictures and inspiring me to get in ❤💙

    Pigeon pain

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 08:04 AM PDT

Hi friends! I have been on off practicing for a couple years and due to quarantine have gotten into yoga again about 3-6 times a week. My one of my biggest issues is hip openers. I'm 6ft ~240lbs and specifically when I get into pigeon I have some difficulty keeping my hips level due to the pain I get in my hamstrings. The hamstring that is near my wrist that is. With my knee only at about a 45 degree angle instead of 90 as well.

Does anyone else experience this? Will it get better as I practice or am I doing something wrong?
