    Finally back working out

    Posted: 24 May 2020 01:00 PM PDT

I had started my journey with yoga at the start of the whole quarantine. After becoming sick with the virus, I wasn't able to do yoga for over a month and now I'm finally back feeling stronger than ever ready to get back into yoga. Today was my first workout since before mid April, feeling proud of myself and excited to get back on the journey ❤️

What does yoga mean to you?

Tune into your heart centre, then answer in two sentences or less so everyone can share and read through easily. Wishing you a wonderful day yogis.

Tips to work on the heart chakra?

    Posted: 24 May 2020 02:22 PM PDT

I think I have a blockage at the level of my heart chakra and I'd like to work on it. Do you have any tips on how to improve the situation, for instance which poses could be helpful ?

I found some videos on youtube but I don't know which one would be good to follow. Thank you for your help.

How do I convince my friends to do yoga with me?

    Posted: 24 May 2020 06:15 PM PDT

I have a couple of good friends whom I love to bits and since the quarantine, we have been doing video call and do random exercises on YouTube together. We are a trio at different level of fitness and body shape. I have been introducing beginner yoga to my friends, a mix of vinyasa flow for fun and tutorial-y alignment classes with lots of explanations for the basics. But oddly enough I can't seem to be able to make my friends have the slightest interest in yoga still.

For the skinny one, she couldn't sweat much in any of the yoga classes and thought they are a complete waste of time. For the big boned one, she has been having knee pain since our exercises and she wouldn't want to do much lunges.

I understand that everyone has their own favourite form of exercise, and not everyone would like yoga. My skinny friend likes body combat because that's the only form of exercise that will make her sweat. My chubby friend likes hiit, maybe because of the promises hiit can offer and the interval rests. I love yoga, and as there are so many types of yoga out there, I can't believe there is no way I could make my friends enjoy what I love. Admittedly I've been trying body combat and hiit and they are ok. Sometimes I feel that the moves are total nonsense but most of the time they are good enough cardio.

I am seeking help as we have been doing body combat and hiit exclusively for more than 2 weeks now, which I think is a sign that they really hate yoga. This is going to cause a little unhappiness and maybe a slightly bigger heart of mine if I can't do anything to change it.

    “a” or no a?

    Posted: 24 May 2020 07:55 AM PDT

Hi everyone! I am pretty new to yoga. I've been slowly building my at home practice (mostly as medicine) and am almost done reading The Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga by Swami Vishnu-devananda.

I have a question that I can't seem to find the answer to, it's not a big deal but I'm curious so it's bothering me lol... Swami Vishnu-devananda refers to all of the asanas with no "a" at the end while my at home yoga "instructor" (Yoga with Adriene) and everywhere else I've seen, ends the asanas with an "a". For example, "Sukhasan" vs "Sukhasana".

Does anyone know why that is??

    TIA <3

    Beginner breathing question

    Posted: 24 May 2020 12:25 PM PDT

Hello! I am one of the many people who started doing yoga during quarantine. I had done it before but I'm really trying to commit to it now. Anyway, I've found that controlling my breath is sometimes the hardest part! (that's probably a really obvious statement to people who practice yoga regularly). For example, I find that one cycle of breath for an instructor might be 2 or 3 cycles of breath for me. I'm wondering if this will eventually get better with practice and strength.

I'm asking partially because a symptom of my anxiety is shortness of breath (it's often hard for me to take a full breath). Does anyone else have this? I'm hoping that continuous yoga practice will help with this because it gets really uncomfortable sometimes. Any tips/thoughts are greatly welcome :)

    Nausea after chest opening sequences?

    Posted: 24 May 2020 03:36 PM PDT

Hi there! Question to any and all experienced yogis since I was wondering if I could get some insight on a recurring issue I have. Every. Single. Time. I decide to do chest opening sequences/ targeted practices I end the practice practically wretching from nausea. Does anyone have any idea why? What can I do to change this? Iyengar particularly has this effect on me, however it happens to me even after following any 15 minute heart opening Youtube video if I do yoga from home. Should I be worried? For reference I am female, late 20's, I would say really in-shape overall and have been practicing yoga on and off for about 10 years. Thank you in advance for any insight!

Any recommended online courses/classes during quarantine to deepen knowledge?

    Posted: 24 May 2020 02:21 AM PDT

I am not so much looking for yoga asana 'flow with me' classes. Perhaps an anatomy course, Ayurvedic class, teaching technique/sequencing class, or any course really with a wise and skillful teacher.

Yesterday, I took a 'Yoga Philosophy: The 8 Limbs of Yoga' class. It was simple, yet well put together, and a good refresher course.

I was curious as to what everyone else may have found?

Waterfall pose feels like really hard work for my core. How can I make it feel more restorative?

    Posted: 24 May 2020 12:46 PM PDT

I think I'm in the same shape as the pictures I've seen of it, so I don't know what I'm doing wrong. It feels really difficult to get my legs vertical, to the extent that my legs tremble.
