| Noticeable posture improvement!! Posted: 28 May 2020 01:25 PM PDT Hi yogis! I just want to share with the community a small but important victory with you all. So I've been practicing yoga on and off for two years, but for the past three months I have been practicing every day consistently. I started practicing yoga to gain strength and, most importantly, improve my horrible posture. So today as I was walking down the street, I looked to the side at my reflection in a store window and saw that I was standing nearly perfectly upright! Shoulders back, head aligned with my spine, heart up, the whole shebang. And the best part is I wasn't consciously thinking about standing up straight! I am so happy to see the physical results of yoga and I love this community so much. Thanks for letting me share my little win today! Peace and love <3 [link] [comments] |
| Tips for Downward Dog... I HATE it! Posted: 28 May 2020 04:37 PM PDT Does anyone else hate downward dog? Maybe I'm just not doing it right? I know it's a very common and sometimes used as a rest position. But it's a lot of work and uncomfortable at times. Also what are you suppose to do with your head? I always find myself wanting to look at my feet. But not sure that's the correct way [link] [comments] |

| Teachers...Do you plan your class or just come up with your class as you go? Posted: 28 May 2020 07:43 AM PDT My instructor for my 200 YTT never taught my group how to sequence a yoga class. She advised us to "teach from your heart with no plan." I would love to hear other teachers' thoughts. Is this normal? 🤷♀️ [link] [comments] |
| Recommendations for videos or apps? Posted: 28 May 2020 07:15 PM PDT Hello yoga redditors, I'm relatively new to yoga and am wondering if anyone can recommend any youtube videos or phone apps that are available for yoga? Thank you in advance, [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 28 May 2020 01:05 PM PDT Hi all! I'm wondering if any of you have any tips for returning to yoga after a long break. I used to practice near daily before becoming pregnant with my LO. During I'd try to but some health concerns made it hard. Now I'm postpartum and wanna get back in the swing of it. Any tips and strategies to get back into practice are appreciated! | How frequent does my practice need to be to improve? Posted: 28 May 2020 12:47 PM PDT Newbie here! I have been practicing yoga since October of last year and I'm loving it! I'm really wanting to improve though, and want to know how frequently I should be practicing per week to improve. I have started out casually (1-2 times per week), just to get to know yoga in general. But now I'm really wanting to start growing. What have y'all found to be a good amount to start growing in your yoga practice? I'm not looking to rush through the journey, but I do want to be making improvements as I go, and want to make sure I'm doing what I need to do that. Thanks in advance for helping a total amateur! | 40 days later and i'm already seeing how yoga has changed me for better!! Posted: 28 May 2020 12:43 AM PDT I started doing yoga 40 days ago and have not stopped since, i practice daily and most of the times i try to do it twice a day. I had taken yoga classes before but never really got to like the instructor or the routines but after being stuck at home because of Corona i decided to give it a go with Adriene. I started with Home, a 30 day yoga journey and the first session was so difficult for me that i had to break it down to two sessions, but after a week i started to notice how my body is getting stronger, how more balanced and focused i am. My body and my breath is better synchronised and after two weeks i actually learned how to BREATHE!! Now i never knew there are better ways to breathe but oh man what a good feeling it is to take a deep breath and let it all out. I think i am more present now and i actually catch myself when i'm drifting too far, i'm a bit of a control freak and always try to know what's going on around me but now i just tell myself where you invest your energy it'll grow and consumes your time and energy even more, so i think i have let go of some of the things that used to occupy a lot of space in my mind. I can say with confidence that i'm creating more space both mentally and physically. I know i'm just a beginner and when it comes to getting to know yourself and your body it's an endless journey with lots of unexpected turns but one thing is for sure, each day after i'm done with my practice i ALWAYS feel better and lighter and happier. I'm moving to a new country in a few months and i'm counting on myself and this practice to lift me me up when i'm down, to get me through my days even if i feel lonely and homesick because at the end of the day mama earth is there to catch me and there are millions of people who are doing yoga and meditating and i'm a member of this bigger community. As Rumi has said it very nicely "You are not a drop in the ocean, you are the whole ocean in one drop." Cheers everyone! Ps. English is my second language so apologies if there are errors! | Posted: 28 May 2020 05:49 AM PDT I know I need to quit -.-' believe me. Wanted to make this post because it is reddit after all and we have lots of lurkers that cruise this subreddit thinking its all about the breath and that they probably can't get into yoga for it. You can. And it's actually really great. Don't let perfect be the enemy of good. [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 28 May 2020 09:12 AM PDT To preface, I am very new to yoga. I am starting to practice daily but cannot get my heels down during the deep squat and downward dog. I think the issue is in my hips but not entirely sure. Has anyone here had this same issue and been successfully able to eventally getting their heels down to the ground? Is this even possible?
