Is it just me or does your fat get in the way of you stretching effectively?

I'm trying to generally increase my mobility/flexibility so I'll stretch-- but for some stretches, my fat literally gets in the way of my stretching to the best of my abilities, For example, this stretch in the image below. I don't even think I'm that big, I'm 5'3" and 120 pounds so is this an issue of me just positioning myself incorrectly? I feel like if I were to try and shift around so my fat wouldnt obstruct my stretches, I wouldn't be stretching my side anymore. Does this happen to anyone else?

When I do a sitting hamstring stretch my right leg and foot will go numb and then tingle for hours afterwards. Am I damaging the nerves and what can I do to help this?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 12:23 PM PDT

I'm sorry this is going to be long but backstory:

I'm 16 years old and two years ago I started going to this ballet class just for fun. I was really inflexible and the instructor wanted me to do the splits as soon as possible. I would literally be crying tears while she pushed my body to do these stretches but I endured them because I thought no pain no gain right? I ended up quitting after 2 months because while I did make really good progress I was scared she was harming my muscles.

My legs started hurting pretty bad when it was in certain positions and so I went to see a doctor who did some examinations on me (just basic stuff like moving my legs a certain way and asking me if it hurt). The pain didn't affect my day to day movements and so the doctor said it was fine. I was really scared to continue stretching.

So last week I decided I really wanted to be able to do the splits so I started stretching again. When I do hamstring stretches like sitting on the floor and trying to touch my toes, my legs and toes will start to tingle, go numb and get sort of hot? They will tingle like this for hours afterwards as well. I'm really scared my legs are somehow damaged from the excessive stretching I did two years ago, if this is possible?

Can anyone recommend a YouTube routine for tight hamstrings?

Can anyone recommend a YouTube routine designed for the viewer to follow along with? As the title suggests, I'm looking for a routine specifically targeting people suffering from tight hamstrings.

It can just be simple stretches, yoga, pilates or whatever. Just something short I could watch and try to follow along with each day.

Should stretching the groin be painful?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 05:55 PM PDT

I experience sharp pain when stretching the groin muscles. I tried two stretches and I feel pain in both. One I sit on the ground with my feet straight and I stretch by spreading them and the other is similar just that I do it on a wall instead of the ground.

I think my groin flexibility is really poor right now too, I cannot spread the legs more than 90degrees apart on the ground and that would be maybe 120 degrees on the wall.

Anyway the worst of all is when I want to bring my legs back together after stretching, I just can't figure a way to do it painless and it is really really painful and I don't feel like I am making progress either.

I understand I might have to see a doctor for something like this but I cannot anytime soon, it does not affect my everyday life I feel like. I would like to hear if some of you had similar problems and how you solved them.
