I (m25) can’t accept something and could really use some help. :( Posted: 03 Jun 2020 08:48 PM PDT 3 years ago I was with the love of my life. 3 years ago I was also a recent college graduate and unsure of where my life was supposed to go. I discovered certain spirituality forums and became motivated to be the best version of myself-to find out what that best version of myself even is. How could I find myself if my girl already is thinking that she knows my true self. I shared this uncertainty with my girlfriend and I told her that I didn't know if being together at that time was the right move. She was extremely heartbroken and so was I. I couldn't help but think "am I being selfish?" "Am I am asshole for doing this?" We broke up but we still talked almost everyday. There'd be days where I'd feel really bad for what I was doing to her and then convince myself that she is the one for me. But then I was unsure and I was just stuck in this cycle for years. Since we were broken up, there were a few girls I'd talk to but since we never really stopped talking I felt immensely bad about it. But during this time apart I was trying to better myself in a lot of ways. I was trying to rid certain vices but when I tried to rid some of them, they only came back stronger and it was a struggle balancing the guilt of failing to rid my vices and the guilt of putting my girl through so much. I started to see the world through the energy fields of guilt, shame and fear. I was guilty that I was probably leading my girl on and making her feel unloved. I felt shame because I discovered I had some ptsd from childhood trauma, and I felt fear that my girl would eventually leave me. I was hoping that she wouldn't leave for good. I kept trying to control everything and it was driving me mad. This past December I made a decision to tell her that I still loved her and really wanted to make things work. At the end of that conversation we had sex and everything seemed to be good. Then I fell into an unexpected depression that lasted a few weeks. We didn't really speak too much during that time. But when I came out of it she expressed that she's been seeing someone else. It hit me. I was going to lose this woman. I latched on to her like a leech and spit all the game I had in the world. I tried to win her back. I must've tried everything but when I finally saw her in person I knew that I couldn't win her back. She told me that she needed me to let her do this and move on with someone else. I'm typing this 7 months later, still hurt by her decision. I never fully processed the pain which is why I believe I can't accept it. When she left I fell back into old habits. I started smoking weed everyday. Most people don't think weed is bad but I smoke to escape. If I buy an 8th of flower, I'm smoking that 8th in 2 days . If I buy a cartridge to vape, I'm hitting that bitch until I pass the fuck out completely. I know. I need to process the pain and move on. But I don't want to. I wish I could take back everything. I wish I could take back my decision to "find" myself because 3 years later and I still feel as lost as I was when I began this journey of self discovery. I'm also probably feeling really sad right now because I haven't smoked. I don't want to. I know this needs to be processed sober but I just miss her so much. I meditate daily but for some reason I can't get past this feeling of immense regret and shame for what I've done. Was the loss of my gf for nothing? I apologize for the wall of text. I just need someone to help me snap out of this already. Thank you in advance. [link] [comments] |
I feel like meditation is making me slower, is this normal? Posted: 03 Jun 2020 04:01 PM PDT Just finished my fifth day of meditation that have all been ~90 minutes long each day.... I can feel my brain physically fighting against the whole process. It wants to speed up to normal levels but for about three to four hours after each session it feels sedated and any anxious thought pattern that normally sinks its teeth into me is only observed. For example, I sat down today to study, and I just "studied" and absorbed the information without stressing or thinking about specific strategies to retain everything. I just read and was in the present. I think my brain's tendency to speed up or enter a more anxious state is from playing video games obsessively for 10+ years. I stopped a month ago after realizing it was a waste of time, but I feel like I'm stuck with a very "fast" and "reflex" based mind. If I had to explain how I feel after each session, it'd be like traveling on a 65 mph road at 25 mph .... it feels a little unsafe watching other cars pass me at 65+ but at the same time I don't feel the "need" to speed up anymore... 3 years later, I'm enjoying meditation. Posted: 03 Jun 2020 04:30 PM PDT Due to poor terminology, I put off meditating the way that feels right for years, because I didn't know the right name for it. I practiced what I understand to be mindfulness meditation for a year (focus on breath, note/accept/observe wandering mind, return to breath), 20+ minutes a day. I hoped to cultivate mindfulness and a sense of peace, with no success. I eventually gave up. I decided to start again recently, because anti-depressants have helped stabilize my mood. However, I had the same result when doing breath-focus meditation. The whole time, I've wanted to do sit-and-observe meditation, but didn't have the right word for it. So I put it off. Then I saw a random comment that explained vipassana as this thing I've been wanting. Since starting that practice, I have felt much better, and quickly. Less reactive, more relaxed. I've caught myself having negative thoughts and immediately recognized them, even having some insight into where they came from. I don't know if I was just doing it wrong the whole time, not doing the thing I intended, seriously misunderstanding terminology, or simply hadn't found what works for me yet. This is probably what I get for trying to do everything on my own. [link] [comments] |
How do you continue your meditation if you mind is all over the place? Posted: 04 Jun 2020 12:45 AM PDT Some days, I cannot meditate at all. I have so many thoughts, I find it hard to focus. I try to calm my mind for 15-20 mins and yet it jumps from here to there. Have you experienced it ? what do you do in this situation? [link] [comments] |
5 Benefits of Diaphragmatic Breathing - My Wellness Building Posted: 03 Jun 2020 06:26 PM PDT Diaphragmatic breathing is the basic for almost all meditation stress management and relaxation techniques. It has great value in enhancing physical and mental health fairly quickly and easily. I think the main issue with these techniques is that most of us have trouble sticking with them. A powerful way to address this is a full guided practice that can be done anytime you want. Here are 5 cool benefits of diaphragmatic breathing and FREE video of a full guided practice. Give it a try and have fun! https://mywellnessbuilding.com/benefits-of-diaphragmatic-breathing/ [link] [comments] |
Seeing flashes of scenery or other places in my vision during meditation. Posted: 03 Jun 2020 10:01 PM PDT I've been noticing that during meditation I will see images for a quick second in my visual field. For example, I will be meditating with my eyes closed, then all of a sudden i see in a road with buildings on the side of me, and tall skyscraper buildings ahead of me. But it's only for a quick second. Literally like a quick flash, then back to darkness. I also feel a jolt of energy go thru my body when it happens. Anyone had experiences like this, or can explain this? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Jun 2020 01:40 PM PDT The descending arc from spirituality to organized religion was initially to our net gain as individuals. Over the last few decades, centuries or wherever you'd like to draw the line however, we've been on a steady decline if the metric for progress is our continued interior and exterior development as conscious beings. Comparatively —
Spirituality encourages exploration and asking existential questions that are too often a fear trigger rather than a void primed for excited discovery. At the global societal level, it's far to evident that our incentive to consider the universe, grow and learn more about the spacetime we occupy has fallen secondary to a negative instinct to wade in known territory.
With the initial pursuit to create a set of codes in tandem with culture that provide easier access to the ideas of spiritualism, over time, we've seen religion take on the opposite evolutionary effect. Spirituality is a question whereas Religion has become an answer…Which isn't a good thing in this case. An answer is a reason to stop asking questions, stop considering what may be beyond that answer and settle on a status quo. We still know what we don't know and we don't know a lot of what we don't know. It's a better time than ever to be posing new questions. - - - Feedback appreciated and encouraged. Posted: 04 Jun 2020 03:04 AM PDT Hello everyone, So I meditated for about 10 minutes today outside of my daily 1 minute meditation before work to address my recurring anxiety. Instead of aggressively saying 'no' to negative thoughts, I remarked "look at that" and moved on. Now I feel calm, but realize I'm used to anxiety and/or internal conflict. Acknowledging negative thoughts and moving on is the move, no? It isn't giving in? Anyway, thanks for reading. I appreciate you. [link] [comments] |

DMT experience - How to produce naturaly Posted: 03 Jun 2020 12:01 PM PDT Hello everybody, I am pretty new here in this community, i just want to share my thing. I hope most of us know what is DMT a.k.a ''death hormone'' and how it works. Well usually DMT experience isn't caused by natural body production of it, some people use drugs and psychedelic stuff, when others use specific green plants, wich have natural DMT in them. However, i am interested in what happens if you naturaly produce this DMT hormone in your brain. As I know, body produces it only two times, when you were born and when you die, on the other hand they say if you sit in a dark room for 1 week, brain will start producing it and you will probably experience all the out of body stuff and etc. I kinda obssesed of this hormone, the idea of it looks very attractive for me, therefore i decided to start this 1 week trial pretty soon, I just need some extra information, by people who had similar experience, experienced DMT or know something wich we don't. So, if you are one those, feel free to let me know or to contact me. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jun 2020 10:54 PM PDT I feel like a huge hindrance for me to make meditation a daily practice has been my consumption of coffee. I have a hard time concentrating once I've had a cup in the morning. Do any fellow practitioners have advice on the topic? I'm quite reliant on it [link] [comments] |
How to Practice Meditation with the help of Music Posted: 04 Jun 2020 02:31 AM PDT We all know that meditation is one of the most popular strategies in stress management. While combining with music it can give you a more positive effect both on your mind and body. Basically the people who are beginners to meditation, this music meditation therapy/system can give them instant relaxation and a peaceful mind and also very easy to practice. A minimum of 20 minutes in a day is a good time to have music meditation. So what are the instructions for music meditation? First, you choose proper medication music for you. Proper music means that the music which you can enjoy while listening to. It may be classical music or it may be birds singing or piano music or anything which does not contain any lyrics because lyrics can distract and engage your mind. The second point is that sit in a comfortable way. Relax your muscles, relax your face, and take a deep breath. Breathe through your nose and exhale through your mouth and continue the process. Try to stay focused on the music. Stay focused does not mean think about your work or any other thing at that moment, just listen to the music. And try to really feel the music. Practicing this daily for at least 20 minutes a day will relax your mind and will boost your brain function. As per the research, Amerindian, Celtic, and Indian stringed instruments, drums, and flutes are very effective in relaxing the mind even when played moderately loud. The sounds of rain, thunder, and sounds of nature can also be relaxing, especially when mixed with other music, such as light jazz, classical music (the 'long' movement), and music which are easy to listen to. Researchers at Stanford University have said that "listening to music seems to be able to change the way the brain works in the same way as drugs." They noted that music is something that almost anyone can access and makes it an easy resource to reduce stress. For example, this is the music combining Indian Flute and rain sounds-- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=le7o5tttaso&t=871s Listening to this one-hour music can help you to relax and reduce stress. This music takes you away from the hustle-bustle of your occupied mind towards close to the peacefulness of earthy elements. [link] [comments] |
Achieving an absolute state of nothingness Posted: 03 Jun 2020 03:30 PM PDT I have just recently, for the first time, achieved a state of absolute tranquility and nothingness. It was wonderful! I've never felt so natural and so close to the "source". I would love to know how often each of you achieve this state of Zen/nothingness? I've also heard of people being able to achieve this state almost on command and instantaneously, have any of you developed this incredible ability? Much Love💜 [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Jun 2020 02:54 PM PDT Hi! I thought about asking here if someone knows a good meditation/breathwork/technique for dealing with old emotional pain stored in the body? (old as in childhood, adolescence or even past life) Osho dynamic was great for dealing with anger but i dont feel it is working well enough for me on the emotional pain Rebirthing breath work is actually great but i think i can find others. I also prefer techniques of feeling it and surrender to it [link] [comments] |

Book recommendations on meditation? Posted: 03 Jun 2020 03:06 PM PDT Hello! First time poster, long term lurker. I've been wanting to start meditating for a long time but the one thing that has stopped me is that I don't know exactly where to start. With all the recent events I find myself depressed and angry and think now is a good time to finally start. Do any of you have any book recommendations on meditation that are a must read, or good for beginners? Any advice you all might help would be appreciated as well! [link] [comments] |
The more I meditate, the harder it becomes. Posted: 03 Jun 2020 11:26 PM PDT I noticed that there seems to be a limit to how much I can meditate each day. At the start of a day during my first meditation session, I can reliably reach access concentration, attain the Vitakka, Vicara, and Piti factors, and briefly touching and then falling out of first Jhana. I usually go for at least 30 minutes to an hour, sometimes even 2 hours. Then on my second session onwards, I feel so restless and dull, it's almost impossible to meditate without the aid of stimulating supplements. It's like my concentration muscle is completely fatigue and need a break. Is there really such a thing? or do I just need to refine my technique and keep trying. I have only just started meditating again, so could this be why too? [link] [comments] |
Meditation as an occasional power Posted: 03 Jun 2020 11:01 PM PDT I wanted things like enlightenment a long time ago. After some experience I let go of the concept, but perhaps I was at least dreaming something up for me to follow and it started a path of awareness and being.. even if I didn't always keep track of it. Fast forward almost a decade, I've barely thought about meditation or practiced it in years. I've been more action, character, and accomplishment based and grounded with everyday life. What's that quote .. "All humanity's problems stem from people's inability to sit quietly in a room" I can feel very lonely as a person. Visiting my soul can be like the darkest night you can be in. Somehow I'm at a time in life even while relatively young that I understand mortality at some level. I imagined living my whole life again as if it was an eternal reoccurance. I felt that completely, my life, my potential, my vision for a future, fill my heart with the more than black blackness and mysterious remembrance of my soul. The words have their own meaning to me, and almost live a hyperreality in dreams I sometimes have, but I think it can convey something to others. It's quite different that I was consciously in this melancholy and profound atmosphere. I don't know how this meant everything was allowed to be silent, and for so much life to exist in every moment, like a swirling galaxy. But I was sitting completely quietly, and even though I don't know how, I was intuitively holding this quiet, and following it, and leading with it, all at the same time. I'd kiss it before standing up if it were a person. I love knowing I sat in a room and was completely quiet and alive, without even knowing how I was doing it. It's the best voice I have to organize my soul, and my heart, and my world, and have resolve going into an unknown future. [link] [comments] |
