How have your hot yoga studios been handling reopening post lockdown?

    Posted: 25 Jun 2020 08:40 PM PDT

For non-heated yoga, I can see how it can still be maintained with relatively low risk if social distance is done or masks are worn. Even Ashtanga.

For hot yoga of all forms, I see no way. A mask is too restrictive for breathing. Even with social distancing in the room and keeping mats separate, the hot humid air that everyone is breathings seems perfect for virus transmission.

    What are your studios doing?

    Yoga spiritually

    Posted: 25 Jun 2020 11:49 AM PDT

Yoga means union with God. And God does not mean a person. God means the energy of existence, which is contained in all of us. But due to the mind, they do not know him. Just as the mind is empty in samadhi, there is a meeting of the conscious energy of existence in that void. Call it union or divine attainment or attain enlightenment. There are different ways of saying a thing. - Osho🙏🙏

    Mat Woes

    Posted: 25 Jun 2020 08:07 PM PDT

Hi everyone! Long time lurker, etc etc. I have a Maduka eKo, which I have had for about 5 years. I did not practice regularly until about 3 months ago, when the pandemic started.

I have been practicing every day, which has been delightful, and I have truly enjoyed using my eKo. I think Manduka makes great products, but tonight I was finishing up my practice and noticed that in the most 'broken in' places, the mat has started to... rip? I don't think 'rip' describes it properly, but it's as if tiny chunks are being pulled out of the surface at the most high friction areas. I can only imagine that it will get much worse.

Has this happened to anyone before? Do any you have any recommendations as far as what to do? Should I just keep using it until it eventually rips/I wear a hole through it? Should I replace it?

how may I sit in lotus without ankle pain?

    Posted: 25 Jun 2020 07:59 AM PDT

I am a dancer so am quite flexible, however lotus hurts the outer part of the ankle which is underneath my leg crossed on top. I think this is because the leg on top causes my ankle to sickle a little. Is there a way to prevent this?

Poses for opening up ribs (anxious breathing)

    Posted: 25 Jun 2020 03:30 PM PDT

I have anxious and shallow breathe a lot. Meditation is something I am starting but I would like to know poses to open up my chest and rib cage to help me breathe when my ribs are tight.

    Thank you

    Going back to the studio?

    Posted: 25 Jun 2020 02:32 PM PDT

My home studio reopens this weekend. Am I crazy to be considering going back? The space is very large with high ceilings. There will only be 12 people in a space that can accommodate more than 60. There is a good process to make sure people are socially distant and masked coming and going. But it will be hot and there will be deep breathing.

I'd love to hear from studio owners or people with a medical/epidemiological background about whether it is a good idea to go or not? Home practice is great, but not the same. I'm continuing my membership regardless, so that is not a factor.

    Depression after hot yoga

    Posted: 25 Jun 2020 02:06 PM PDT

I tried hot yoga for the first time today and found it very challenging (in a good way). However I left feeling kind of empty, maybe from dehydration, I don't know. It's been four hours now since the class ended and I just feel so depressed. I normally feel amazing after cardio, and figured yoga would do the same. I'm reading online that yoga enforces more awareness with your body and mind and that can channel some inhibited feelings. Has anyone ever had this experience? Maybe I'm just having a bad day.

Does anyone have any strength building tips? Thanks!

    Hyper mobility and yoga

    Posted: 25 Jun 2020 01:33 PM PDT

Question! I have been diagnosed at 29 with hyper mobility. I have pain in my joints, muscles etc. I have to exercise and I also need yoga back in my life.

Anyone with hyper mobility do yoga? And do it safely? I don't fancy popping a joint! I haven't yet but as I'm getting older it is more likely to happen.

    Yoga with Adriene - recommendation

    Posted: 25 Jun 2020 01:20 AM PDT

I've done her original 30 days of yoga. I'd like advice on which one to pick next. Which one is the least meditative? Also if it includes chakra or kundalini yoga videos, could you point out which videos? Those types of yoga make me kind of uncomfortable since I'd just like a nice workout and stretching, and you know all of the physical benefits. So if you happen to know which one of Adriene's 30 days of yoga is focused on physical aspects the most, please help!
