How often should you replace yoga mats & how long to they usually last?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 06:41 PM PDT

I am new to this and am wondering how long yoga mats last and how often you should replace them! I want to get a nice sustainable mat, but they are pricey and if I am going to get a nice mat, I would want it to last a very very long time. Do cork mats last longer than regular mats? I am not planning on doing hot yoga or anything very moist, if that relates to the lifespan of the mat. I don't want anything like crazy fancy, just more sustainable and super durable. Thanks!

    Yoga fetishized

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 08:23 PM PDT

I think it's kinda weird how many people I talk to ( guys, let's be honest) that see yoga as sexual entertainment. A friend of mine who's never even seen a mat follows hundreds of yoga accounts on ig just to look at butts and cameltoes.

    Yoga for the curvy?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 08:07 PM PDT

I'm looking for resources for curvy bodies. I'm 5', festively plump, and have a really big chest. Despite this I'm in pretty good shape. I run a 5k a few times a week. I also tend to be pretty flexible. I've been doing yoga off and on for years, but I feel really frustrated that all of my instructors only seem to know how to work with thin people. there are a whole bunch of postures that I'm just not going to be able to do because my limbs are too short and my body too round. I'm looking for resources that address these specific issues. Any advice would be great! Thank you 😊.

    Throat tightness while doing yoga

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 05:23 PM PDT

I do yoga about once a week and I always get a tight feeling in my throat (almost like my uvula is hitting my throat or something) while in downward facing dog. Does anyone know what could be causing that? I thought that it happened to everyone until discussing it with a friend recently who had never experienced it.

Tips for balancing in forearm stand/ pincha

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 12:05 PM PDT

I am really struggling with the pincha pose, cant seem to get my head around centring my balance. I tend to fall onto my knees when transitioning from a headstand to forearm.

Are there any tips for improvement?

    Navasana in a flow

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 08:41 AM PDT

I've recently started YTT and am working on designing a 90-minute class for the first time. I'm trying to incorporate navasana for core strength, but I'm getting frustrated how clunky it feels in a flowy sequence. It's actually something that also bugs me when I attend class myself, it always feels like getting plucked out of the flow... Is it just me or do you guys recognize this feeling?

Maybe someone has some inspiration for me as to what poses I could put in before and after this dreaded boat?

    Next level inspiration

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 05:49 AM PDT

Hi, so I've been practicing yoga via YouTube for about 6 years never had the confidence for classes and with the world as it is they probably wont happen for a while now anyways! Once they are available I will find the balls to go to a class somehow! Love love love yoga and all its benefits but I'm wanting to take things to the next level of strength and flexibility as I feel I've kind of stagnated with progress last couple of years. I was just wondering if there was anyone in particular who is worth following on youtube who you would recommend for some ass kicking, but actually doable yoga! Thank you :)

I started a yoga routine for concentration. I found it on the internet and it taught 5 different poses but how long am I supposed to hold the positions? Eg. Tree pose

Request: finding a really good yoga ball

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 12:21 PM PDT

    Hi yogis!

I actually want a yoga ball for sitting on during my desk job, I bought a cheap £10 one off Amazon which I find I have to re-inflate every couple of days. I'm 6ft2/188cm and 100kg/220lb. Does a ball that I won't need to reinflate constantly exist? Not really sure what size I need, but I assume big.

    Bonus points if it's pink!

    Thank you in advance

Dizziness and Loss of Consciousness while practicing Yoga

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 10:39 AM PDT

Hey guys, completely new to this sub, just wanted to reach out and ask about your practice and your experience with dizziness while practicing Yoga. I have done Yoga for the last 3-4 years, I don't consider my self a pro by any means, I just try to do it a couple of times a week to clean the mind.

While doing certain poses, specifically when I stand up after a series of poses I'm not exactly sure what happens but I get dizzy, to the point I experience some really weird phenomenon, almost like an out of body experience. Some times I get weird messages or inner thoughts that otherwise I would not really think about. I typically lose consciousness for 2-5 seconds and then I'm back to normal.

While I would love to believe that these effects have to do with how great my Yoga is, or how much cleansing of the mind I'm getting, I'm worried that those little breaks of consciousness I'm getting have a more physiological origin. Would love to get your feedback, much love!

When should I start practicing a Handstands?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 03:43 AM PDT

Everyone who is able to do a Handstand, do you practice only yoga or do any weight training as well?

I started doing yoga about a month ago, still in the beginner stages, I am not sure when should I start trying to learn a Handstand. I don't want to start too early and injure myself.

Also, can anyone point me to a good guide how to get started.

Have you heard about budokon yoga? What is it?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 07:04 AM PDT

In seated forward fold, I am able to put my elbows on the ground near my knees without much of a hamstring stretch, but it does highlight tightness in my upper spine (from my shoulder blades to the base of my neck). Are there other asanas I can incorporate into my practice to help create room there?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 05:14 AM PDT

I had thought I had my spine mostly covered between cat/cow, camel, bridge, and plow/shoulder stands, but I guess not!

Help me choose a proper flow

    Posted: 13 Jun 2020 11:33 PM PDT

Is there a yoga flow for weight loss that you have checked yourself and it works? I have been doing sun and moon salutations for years and now I need to focus on my body more and shed some pounds. Any advice appreciated:)

Is there a good yoga program online designed to avoid back damage?

    Posted: 13 Jun 2020 09:08 PM PDT

I just saw a Bob and Brad (physiotherapists) video on back damaging yoga poses. The rubuttal of some of those practicing yoga is that these back damaging poses need to be taught and practiced correctly to avoid damage.

It would be great if there was a program available that has been designed or approved by physiotherapists, and modifies or avoids certain poses, or has in depth teaching on how to do the pose correctly to avoid damage. Are there any good online courses available with scientific backing? I'd be happy to pay.

    Thanks for any help.
