Have a "stupid" question and are afraid to ask it? (Or don't want to make a whole thread for it?) Well, feel free to ask away in this thread! There's no such thing as a stupid question. This is also a great opportunity for the rest of the community to help each other out.

    Guidelines:

    • As always, read the FAQ to make sure your question isn't answered already.
    • If you're looking for the Motivational Month threads from the past, they are all here in our Wiki.
    • You can also use the search bar to see if an answer to your question exists already.
    • We are not medical professionals. If something hurts and it doesn't go away within a week's rest, see one!

    Enjoy!

Skinning the cat. It's taking me a while to get this and I'm nowhere near as flexible as you guys on this sub. However you all are extremely inspirational.

My front splits progress! About 6 months of stretching. Never give up! :)

My hips are finally opening up!

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 12:17 PM PDT

I have been stretching during my daily screen time. It did not feel like I was making any significant progress BUT my hips have opened up enough that my partner doesn't have to help me move about anymore during bedroom adventures.

It's such a satisfying victory since my hips have been a source of debilitating pain for about a year. I had no idea flexibility was so important; I always felt like it was more aesthetic.

I'm nowhere near my days of dancing ballet in high school but eliminating pain is thrilling.

    Keep pushing!

What happens (mechanically) when you stretch?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 08:30 PM PDT

Does your muscle tear a bit and then gets rebuild to be slightly longer?

Does your brain learn not to send you pain signals and lets the muscles fully relax?

    Both?

That "stretching is really training your brain to let go" is often mentioned but never really explained. Why doesn't brain let you do the pike? What is it exactly worried about? Is it a "bug" in our software that needs fixing or is the pike actually potentially dangerous for your body? What's the danger exactly? If it is dangerous, how does doing stretching exercises over a period of time make it less dangerous? Isn't exercising just trying to touch your knees with your forehead repeatedly until your brain slowly "gives up"?

    looking for recommendations

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 11:54 AM PDT

    Hi everyone

I am fairly inflexible. I am looking for recommendations of programs to improve my splits and shoulder flexibility.

I see things like beyond flexibility advertised and Hyperbolic stretching

    Are they good?

Do you have a program you recommend?

    Thanks everyone

Recommended Exercises or Stretches for Managing Scoliosis Pain?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 06:06 AM PDT

I have mostly lumbar (and a little thoracic) scoliosis.

I've discovered anything related to my hip flexors really relieves my pain that I face each day.

Anyone have any exercises that I can do at the gym or stretches I can do each day that may relieve my lower and middle back pain?
