Can't tilt my pelvis far enough?

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 02:22 AM PDT

I'm a beginner who isn't super inflexible, but can't do a lot of stretches. After a couple of months of stretching I have realised my problem is that I can't get my pelvis to tilt past a certain point. This is an inconvenience when trying to do a forward fold, but most of all working towards a pancake stretch!

Basically, when I do anything where I have to fold forward, I can go to a certain point but then my hips won't hinge any further and my back starts to curve slightly.

When I try to practice a pancake stretch, it means that I can't even feel a stretch anywhere. My struggle is trying to bend forward enough to feel anything.

How do I fix this?? Do I need to stretch my hamstrings or hips flexors more? Or is there something that I have to strengthen?

It might be worth noting that I don't have a stretching block that I can sit on, or anything that could serve the same purpose.

Day 30 and counting of my flexibility journey!

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 08:21 PM PDT

I hit 30 days of stretching for 45 min per day! I am very inflexible, so my goals are improvement of general flexibility. I am generally active and have been doing yoga on and off for a few years, so this has been a manageable amount of daily stretching for me on top of my other exercise.

I've been using the Stretchit app (not a promotion and it is a monthly subscription), but I am fortunate enough to be able to fit it in my budget, and I like the challenges component. I am currently doing the Platinum Flexibility Course, which has full body, back, middle splits, and side split routines. I add an extra class to the days with less than 45 min, so I can stretch a total of 45 min per day.

I just started taking progress pictures, so maybe in a few months, I will be able to see some progress. This is the longest stretch (pun intended) of dedicated practice I have ever had, so here's to another 30 days and beyond!

    Super inflexible!

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 04:54 PM PDT

I'm so inflexible it's crazy. When i try to touch my toes standing I can only reach to up to my toes. When i sit on the ground with my legs out straight i can't even reach a 90 degree angle it's more like 120 degrees (super bad i know). I started doing the stretches recommended on the starting page but can anyone tell me what exactly my problem is? Is it just right hamstrings or something else as well?

I keep injuring myself when working on my front splits

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 11:26 AM PDT

Hi guys, I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice. I have been working on my front splits stretching for around 3 months now however in recent weeks my training has been on and off. This is because I am now constantly pulling my hip flexor/ Illiopsoas muscle when I'm working on my front splits. I let it rest for 2 weeks before attempting to work on my flexibility again but even the lightest stretch causes discomfort and pain and I can't stretch it again for another. 2 weeks. What am I doing wrong and how do I solve this?

[OC] The #1 thing I see with locked up shoulders. How you can assess it yourself + 2 great movements to restore mobility

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 12:30 PM PDT

When I work with people who have tight and locked up shoulders, I know they're probably missing the ability to internally rotate their arm bone (humerus) within their shoulder complex.

In terms of anatomy, what this usually means is that there is a restriction in the ribcage on the front side.

Whether it's due to tight pecs, lats, or anything else, we know there is at least a significant limitation if you cannot get to around 70 degrees of internal rotation.

When this compression gets to a certain point, it pulls our shoulders forward and inward, resulting in your common Upper Crossed Syndrome posture.

This restricts the ribcage from expanding during normal breathing which will limit the diaphragm's function, and that can lead to all sorts of things if you read my deep-dive guide on why breathing is so criminally underrated for posture.

    What to do?

We want to effectively "turn off" and stretch the muscles compressing the ribcage and allow for air to expand the restricted areas.

Here is my before range of motion measurement and my after measurement of just doing 5 breaths on each of the exercises.

Here is a video overview with two easy exercises that will make a noticeable difference in your range of motion test.

3-Step Approach To Improve Ankle Mobility

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 12:29 PM PDT

I had the splits in high school, how fast could I get it back safely?

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 03:22 PM PDT

I am probably 6 inches away from my middle and front splits. What's a safe but fast amount of time to re-get my splits back? And how much stretching is too much stretching?

    Ankle weights for contortion

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 06:18 AM PDT

Hey everyone! I'm looking into buying ankle weights for contortion training. I found that I've got the flexibility for a cheststand with my feet on the floor but there's resistance in my upper back (I can only comfortably get my feet to the floor if I'm holding them) , so I want to use ankle weights to anchor my feet down so I can work on easing my muscles into the pose/build the muscles to get my feet down.

Does anyone have any recommendations for weights for this kind of exercise? like should I go for heavier Ankle weights for more anchoring or lighter ones for more control? I'm 6'1 ish and about 75kg.

If anyone has any advice I'd be really grateful! Thanks!

    Looking for dorsiflexion results

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 09:46 AM PDT

Hi guys! Long time lurker on this sub.

I'm on the hunt for people who have successfully increased their range of dorsiflexion. I have read and tried out many different stretches/drills/routines to try and make an improvement but I feel like there is 0 difference. I haven't found many people online who have posted before and afters of their dorsiflexion and it's making me feel like it's an issue I can't solve.

I certainly have tightness in my soleus and gastroc and foam roll daily and stretch (with not always perfect consistency...some months I'm on it some months I miss a week).

I just want to know that if I put the head down and keep at it that I'll see improvement.

    Thanks in advance!! Honjo
