Welcome to Form Check Friday! Here is the link to all previous Form Check Fridays

Please post a photo or video of the stretch you'd like to be critiqued. Do include any specific questions you have about your form.

Your video or photo should be:

    • Oriented the correct way, we want to see the lines of your body
    • Be formatted such that there isn't unnecessary video of you preparing for the move (keep it short)
    • Have the important bits of the movement clearly visible (multiple angles is always useful)
    • Include the whole body

    Rules for critiquing form

    • Constructive criticism only
    • Feel free to point others to resources that address their form and/or questions if you aren't "qualified" to give them advice yourself

If your form is awesome, consider posting it in the Show Off Sunday thread!

Stretching is making my flexibility worse???

    Posted: 13 Aug 2020 10:18 PM PDT

When I first started stretching everyday 2 months ago I would see major improvements after some time had passed. However, ever since a few days ago my flexibility has deteriorated so much it's gone back to where I started (if not even worse). It started happening right after I touched down on one of my splits sadly. The weird thing is, it's not from a muscle tear or sprain because I haven't had any recently (except a minor back one a while ago). Can anyone explain what's happening because it feels like I'm back at square one and it's really sad. Thanks!

    Good Splits/Hips video

    Posted: 13 Aug 2020 06:16 PM PDT

Anyone have suggestions on a YouTube video that has a good splits/hips routine that is just a straight follow along routine that I can follow along with in real time? So many videos are filled with explanations, personal stories, and just plain fluff. I just want something close to a real yoga class that I can start and just do. Any suggestions?

Hip external rotation 85 degrees, internal rotation 3 degrees — how do I interpret this?

    Posted: 13 Aug 2020 01:31 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I went to a physical therapist today for an assessment due to back pain. He mentioned my hip internal rotation is severely limited at only 3 degrees and advised me not to sit with my legs folded (criss cross applesauce).

I guess I am wondering if 85 degrees is normal for external rotation? He said my internal rotation is supposed to be 45 degrees so I am not understanding by my external rotation is so high. I'd also like to better understand why it would be bad to sit with my legs folded — will that reduce my internal rotation ability?

    Thanks!

[TOMT] a straddle split with the feet lifted slightly from the ground?

    Posted: 13 Aug 2020 12:54 PM PDT

so i saw this move in a video, basically you put you back against the wall; and then you do a pancake/split but with the legs slightly lifted from the ground(about 5 to 6 cm from what i saw in this vid)

    Internal rotation of hips

    Posted: 13 Aug 2020 08:43 AM PDT

I'm working on increasing flexibility in my pelvis. My right leg (femur) does not want to internally rotate. Does anyone have suggestions on what stretches would help? Thanks for your time!

I need a whole body stretching routine for my physical job.

    Posted: 12 Aug 2020 10:25 PM PDT

Hi everybody. I just started a job as a general laborer for a landscape company about a month ago. My days are mostly spent digging and pick axing through rock hard ground. I've started to develop really bad trigger finger in all my fingers in both my hands, to the point where I have to tape my hands open at night because if they close I physically cannot open them in the morning. Now I think this is a tight muscle problem, so I need to start stretching. What stretches would you guys recommend for me to do after work? I have maybe 15-20 minutes I'm willing to allot to stretching.
