    • As always, read the FAQ to make sure your question isn't answered already.
    • If you're looking for the Motivational Month threads from the past, they are all here in our Wiki.
    • You can also use the search bar to see if an answer to your question exists already.

    Flexibility imbalance in hips

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 07:40 AM PDT

I've noticed that one of my hips opens much easier, while the other one is uncomfortable to open at all even to cross my legs with. It has about 3-4in less range of motion and I'm wondering what kind of exercises I could do to make my hips more balanced, and what the consequences might be from imbalanced hip flexibility. Thanks!

    Flexibility help needed

    Posted: 31 Aug 2020 03:57 AM PDT

I am 16 years old and have done bjj for about a year, and not noticed much improvement with my flexibility. I would like to be able to do things like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5NNUA8uaYY 4:13 , and this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AzxAtlhIu4 much easier as currently I cannot do either without my legs being at a 90 degree angle when on the floor. If anyone can recommend me anything good to watch or do to help this that would be great. Thanks

Question - What inflexibility causes my legs to do this?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 07:17 PM PDT

I have found that when I raise one leg straight, the other leg wants to come with it. For example, when I do a hamstring kick with my right leg, my left leg wants to come up with it so the knee bends.

This is also very noticeable and more problematic on my floor stretch. When I do a lying down hamstring stretch with (for example) left leg straight in front of me on the floor, and the right leg up straight and in the air. To stretch my right hamstring I bring the right leg closer to my head, but my left leg has a tendency to lift up, too! This makes my hips uneven and makes my stretch worse.

Why is this happening? This continues to happen even as my hamstrings get more flexible. Is it possible that it has something to do with tight hip flexors? Or is this just my hamstrings fault? What stretches would you recommend to fix this?

    Stretching Cold (Dynamic and Static)

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 08:08 AM PDT

    Hello All,

I have some questions about stretching cold

    1. Dynamic: Is it okay to do a morning dynamic stretch with a minimal warm up ( I heard morning dynamic stretching is the best way to make long term stretching gains). Would it also be beneficial to do 5 min dynamic stretches throughout the day?
    2. Static: I normally try to do Static stretching after I workout - but would it also be okay to do static stretching during work breaks (can't sweat during that time) or before bed?

is there particular body parts that are okay to stretch cold?

    Thanks!

Restorative yoga for stress relief and flexibility. This is tailored for inflexible people to help find tension relief while still getting a stretch in the lower and upper body.
