[COMP] Ekapadavipareetadandasana has been a goal since 2018 cuz of weak, tight quads. I’ve also been going through a rough patch in life, both personally and professionally, so looking at this feels good. :)

[COMP] Been trying to practice my crow pose each day, those moments of balance seem to be lasting longer and longer ☺️ (suggestions/constructive critique welcome!)

Oh the joys of practicing yoga with cats in the house.

[COMP] Chakrasana or Urdhva Dhanurasana. A pose I always felt “good” in but seeing progress / feeling better in the shape with more practice. What’s a pose that always felt right for you? One that didn’t/still doesn’t? I can’t do hero’s pose AT ALL. Maybe one day!

So much stronger (mentally and physically)

    Posted: 12 Aug 2020 06:34 PM PDT

So I've been doing yoga on and off the last year. Until I had a running injury I didn't do it to regularly. Back in March I started having issues with both iliac crests causing me a lot of pain, so I found myself on the mat more and more. It started as a way to deal with not being able to run and to help me stretch my core better. Now it's something I crave. I'm still not great but today I did crow pose for the first time and I felt like a kid again. It's like I was back in gymnastics landing my first back handspring. Just had to share with people that would understand.

    Advice for weak wrists?

    Posted: 12 Aug 2020 02:27 PM PDT

Hi everyone! I'm new to yoga, I've been doing beginners videos on YouTube for the last 5 days. My wrists hurt and I'm wondering if anyone has any advice? I'm doing videos by Yoga with Adriene, and she puts a lot of time into explaining how not to hurt my wrists, but they are still having a hard time. Is it just something I need to work through & build up strength?

Increase in emotions /tears during yoga practice. [trauma informed yoga]

    Posted: 12 Aug 2020 12:31 PM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I'm new to the subreddit and was wondering if others can relate to an experience I have whev I practice yoga. I am pretty inconsistent with my practice; but I'm coming to realize that one of the reasons is that when I do yoga the experience can be difficult.

When I practice my emotions well up, I start to feel like I'm close to tears and just a lot comes up. It's a great release but also difficult too. I do have trauma history so in sure part of that is the reason. Trauma informed yoga was recommended to me but it's been hard to find good resources fro this or others who have similar experiences.

I am currently following yoga with Adrienne which I'm really enjoying. But I was wondering if any of you can relate or if you had resources available.

    Thank you!

    Knees

    Posted: 12 Aug 2020 02:35 PM PDT

I recently got a new job washing dishes, and I work 7-9 and a half hour shifts which absolutely kill my knees after standing for so long. Any good knee stretches or "cracking" techniques that can make my knees feel better? I already do my full body stretches before and after work to deal with the leg and back pain but the knees are what I really don't know how to target

Did yoga for the first time in a year, been feeling sick (not nauseous, but sick) afterwards. Coincidence?

    Posted: 12 Aug 2020 12:51 PM PDT

I'm generally a fit person, but haven't done yoga in a while. Did a 45 minute deep stretch yoga session on Sunday (4 days ago) and ever since, have been feeling aches in my muscles and joints, and having a sore throat/ sneezing/ feeling under the weather. Is this caused by the yoga or something else? So weird.

Ujjayi breathing - the story how I finally understood it.

    Posted: 12 Aug 2020 12:38 AM PDT

I never understood this breathing, it always felt annoying to me going to a class and doing this stupid breathing thing. I could do all the other breathing exercises, but this one just felt strange... I didn't exactly know what to do...

So one day, I meditated and suddenly... I realized how I was breathing.

It was eye opening. The breath came to me naturally and introduced itself friendly. I understood it completely. Now it's my friend, I wanted to understand it so bad and here I am.

    lack of progress demotivating me

    Posted: 12 Aug 2020 12:29 PM PDT

I,ve been doing yoga since two years. I just follow youtube videos and do it half hour to 40 minutes a day. While I love being on the mat, i am also starting to get frustrated with my lack of progress. I just can't do challenging poses like chaturanga, crow, wheel, etc. It has got to the point that I have given up trying challenging poses. Should I just give up ? Maybe my body is just not made for doing challenges.

    Posted: 12 Aug 2020 11:42 AM PDT

How are you guys doing your yoga classes now that gyms are closed? Are your classes on zoom or are you just following a routine on your own? I like to do yoga with others so any suggestions help. Thanks!

Hand sores with new Liforme Mat

    Posted: 12 Aug 2020 11:09 AM PDT

After much research and debate I decided to splash out on a Liforme mat.

I was previously practicing on a cheap foamy mat that I bought because of a knee injury, but slid all over the floor and was not safe.

Day 2 using the Liforme I have two sores (could turn into blisters) on the heel of the palm of my hand, just beneath the wrist.

Is this a problem with my form? Am I dumping too much weight into my palms? I've never had this problem with other mats I've used. Could it be because the mat has so much traction moving position causes a rubber burn?

If anyone has had a similar problem or thinks they know why, I'd love to know!

    Is my routine doable?

    Posted: 12 Aug 2020 05:45 AM PDT

To get straight to the point, I have a huge interest in lifting, yoga, and jiujitsu. While they all help one another, I also just love them separately and enjoy doing them just to do them. When I focus on one I tend to lose focus on the others but wanted to change that to finish off this year.

The type of yoga I practice mostly is Baptiste power yoga, I have the unique opportunity to participate in a teacher training for free, starting in September. Ideally I want to practice power yoga 5x a week with 2 yin classes to give myself a breather.

On top of that I really want to get stronger, and to simply look better with my clothes off (not that I look bad now, but theres always better right?). For this I wanted to do a PPL routine 2x a week so 6 total days of lifting.

Lastly, as a hobby and as something I casually compete in, I want to get better at jiujitsu. The coronavirus really messed up my training the last couple months and I want to get back into it. I planned on training 5x a week (roughly 1 hour drilling, 1 hour rolling).

Typing this, I know it doesn't seem realistic to be able to put my maximum effort in all these right? Would my body be able to adapt and handle this much stress? If I managed to eat enough and get my 8 hours would i be able to do this? The hardest part will probably be eating enough to keep up let alone be in a surplus I think.

Any comments, tips, advice, or something similar you went through would be greatly appreciated!

    Bored of yoga (with adriene)

    Posted: 12 Aug 2020 03:00 AM PDT

I've been doing yoga with adriene for a while now and pretty much daily without fail since quarantine. I find myself just going through the motions. I kind of want to stop doing yoga for a while but feel really guilty about it, it use to make me feel so loose and free when I first started now I don't even notice the benefits and it feels like a chore every morning. I don't think switching to another instructor would help. Any advice, should I just take a break till I feel the need to comeback or will I just lose all the yoga gains I've made

    Will I Notice a Difference?

    Posted: 12 Aug 2020 02:33 AM PDT

So I did 100 days of yoga from April to July and towards the end, had started to notice improvements (especially in strength and some positions like down dog). I stupidly stopped after that because I don't really have anywhere to practice right now, am planning lessons for the new school year and am moving house.

I'm planning to start back up but with over a month of no activity, I'm worried that my body will have got used to the inactivity and I'll feel like I've started from scratch! What do you think?! Thanks in advance 😊

    Shoulder, neck and back pain...

    Posted: 12 Aug 2020 08:05 AM PDT

Hello! I was away and haven't done yoga in over a week. To make a long story short, I hurt my left shoulder, neck and back. The pain radiates down my arm.

I was hoping to catch a yoga class tonight, because I'm already out of shape and getting back into yoga - but I'm afraid I'll hurt myself more.

Should I try anyway? Maybe yoga will help the pain? Or heal it just in case?

Matcha Tea, what are your thoughts?

    Posted: 12 Aug 2020 07:45 AM PDT

Hello, what does the group think of matcha tea. Its is sad to be like green tea, but much better. Is it something you would like to try as a natural source of vitamins and energy to keep you busy throughout the day?
